“I hereby invoke the Right of Conscription to recruit this Templar into the rank of the Wardens…”

The situation was bad enough for young Templar Cullen. The newly harrowed Amell lay dead in his arms, the Blood Mage Jowan managed to escape, and Knight Commander Gregoir’s blade was pointed at his neck. Earlier, he had failed to dissuade Amell from her plan to help Jowan’s escape from the Circle altogether, resulting in her being killed while trying to stop the ensuing confrontation between the two men. While Cullen did not manage to convince either the Knight Commander or the First Enchanter of his innocence, he still blamed himself for Amell’s death. He humbly accepted his punishment to spend the rest of his life in the prison of Aeonar… until Warden Commander Duncan himself decided to recruit him to join the Grey Wardens.

Whatever Duncan sensed in him, whether it was his sense of duty, his perseverance, determination or unfaltering resolve, Duncan knew that this young man had what it took to do what must be done to save Ferelden from the Blight.

Aaaaah I love it! Is that a summary you wrote for elfrooted? He turned out great, and his eyes are a gorgeous amber. Great job, Ceru!

@Qween: Thanks

Nah that's just my personal headcannon, there were once a discussion of how to make the story happen (elf didn't have any idea on how to make the beginning of how Duncan recruited Cullen instead of the HoF). So several people propose their version and this one is mine ;)

@Tesh: thanks ^^

EDIT: TBH drawing helps a lot of focusing & for distraction though. Lately there's so much things going on for the worse IRL so well... it helps. A lot. Well... ;)

Qween: Nat looks great! You can't even tell there used to be marks around her eye.  :)

Ceru: Cullen's eyes are very striking, especially since they're colored... Also the writing there is really cool.

I did color my drawing of Cullen and my friend's Quizzy:

Wow Vor, she looks great! Yay, curvey!! The shading in her back and her hiney have a great three dimensional effect!

I wanna try! She looked like fun :D

Thank you, Qween! Do give it a go! There is a lot of subtle shading on the model's skin, it's a playground for charcoal. I'd recommend viewing the reference in a medium or big screen if you can; I used my tiny tablet most of the time and was difficult to see some of the changes in (value? those are different values, right? xD)

Good suggestion, maybe I'll use my computer monitor. Did you practice alot with gesture first? Any recommendations on source stock images? I need to check out deviant, I heard there's lots of models there but there's soooo much to sort through!

I didn't practice at all, I dived in head-first  :lol: Which is why the head and arm don't look so great, they'd probably look more expressive if I had practised a bit.

For reference of postures, clothing, etc. in DevArt I'd recommend mizzd-stock. Tesh pointed me to her and her pics are very nice, specially when drawing fantasy themes. For good pics to copy, Dark Beauty Magazine; being a dark-themed site, they often feature shoots with very dramatic lightning that are great to copy with charcoal (such has the "big boat" girl) They have a Facebook page and post several pics a day, you can also find them on their website for free.

I still don't know more resources, but I'll be sure to share if I find any  :)

Vor, your figure drawing looks amazing :D What a glorious booty :D It's funny how I absolutely love to draw muscles on a male model - lean, athletic muscles, no steroid/body builder muscles pls. While on ladies, the more curves there are, the more fun I am having. The human body is beautiful :)

Keep it up!

Edit: Posemaniacs is a really good resource for muscles and poses.

Another good resource for figure drawing is Pixelovely

If you have a good computer, you can also try Daz3D. While many assets are for purchase, the basic software is free, and you do get some models that you can set up in any pose you wish.

Thank you so much Tesh! <3 I completely agree, the human body is so beautiful and complex and full of possibilities. No wonder it has always been one of the great subjects of art.

Jumping on the hype train for Dishonored 2...

tumblr_nq0l3e3nYy1u8wg9ro1_r2_540.png

Speed painting, 5 hours (is it still considered speed painting? Anyway there are tons of photoshop crashing) Trying to block directly the colour without greyscale & trying to use other methods for blocking (big brush stroke), much quicker this way... Still no idea on how colour works.

Nice work on the face, Ceru! The hair, however, lacks a bit of texture.

Well, in 5 hours I make three pleats of the Flemeth dress and half the butt of the charcoal lady... so yes, I guess it can be considered a speed painting  :D

Thanks Vor :D

Guess that everything in the drawing lacks texture & volume... Literally I did not have any time to do it. That one is speed painting so the timerwas already set up in motion the second I started the sketch. Just want to see how far it's possible to push in three hours. It forces me to do the big masses first before going to details (usually I finish one area first to very high completion before moving to another still-flat areas) & actually that's a good thing. Also force me to use big brushes stroke with texture since the beginning though. A good exercise (but not a good idea for more complicated pieces)

I know what you mean, that Warden Cullen takes like 40 hours total? How long did it take you to do Flemeth? That one is very elaborate & looks time consuming :)

Not dragon age related, nor mass effect nor the witcher. It's not even Farkas, but ... I fell in love with this little yarn character from Unravel. I still don't know the game, but ..  it was so cute, and this swedish guy was so nervous, his hands were shaking and .. and.. :blush:

@Vor: Wow! The shading is really good  :D Anatomy is a lot of fun!

@Ceru: She looks good! It seems like good practice too, I think I should try out a speed painting.

@Mor: Yay, Yarny! It was actually really inspiring to watch the guy presenting Unravel because you can see how nervous he is but he just really wants to show the game he made to everyone...  ^_^

One of my friends just started playing Origins and we were talking about our characters... so here is a quick sketch of my Wardens:

@Ceru I don't know exactly how long the Flemeth drawing took, I guess around 40-50 hours? Just each half of the skirt took an entire afternoon-evening. I enjoyed it a lot and the effort paid off sooooo much, I got a very good grasping on how clothing pleats work and how to shade them with graphite.

@Mor Awww so cute!  <3

@Pro those sketches look good! I specially like the elf on the left; Dalish with creative vallaslin or city elf with very cool face tattoos?  :lol:
