Since I only found out about Solas positivity week this week (bad Pro, bad!  <_<) I have only a few quick doodles to show for it so far.

Oooh the expressions are excellent :D

I really love how you manage to vary the expressions that much ^^

Aww thanks so much Ceru! Normally I don't draw such exaggerated expressions, and I thought I needed to practice them.  It's a bit hard to keep changing it and still keep Solas' signature features (they are quite particular  :P) but it was fun!  :D

Guess that they say for semi-realistic & cartoony look (except if you want to render in a realistic style) it's good for exagerrating expressions so well, at least you test the limit ^^

@Ceru: Wow! He looks good  :D Although, you should use more colors for the highlights, so it blends better and looks less harsh. Otherwise, it's very good  :)

I finished my Solavellan drawing a few days ago but ehh... I'm not satisfied with the coloring or the lineart. I prefer the sketch.  -_-

oooh I love your Lavellan's colouring, she looks so warm :D

Although it's a bit funny to see Solas with orange eyebrow XD

The overall mood is really warm there. Btw, very dumb question but where's the light coming from...? I suppose it's from the left side of the image due to Solas' shadows?

Hmm I don't get what you mean with more colour for highlight. Do you mean more different colour, or add more contrast on the highlight zones? TBH on this one I really try to limit the whole palette to green & red (all the browns are basically low saturation red/orange + sienna red undertone below the green parts to make it feel warmer) except for the eyes for main focus. And a bit of blue/grey for the cool shadow (since it's warm light).

About the blending hmm this is paint tool SAI so the brushes have already blend parameters. I don't really use blend brushes though, trying to keep the more rougher strokes intact. But guess that you're right it should have been blended & smoothened more.

Yes, one of the reasons I'm not satisfied with the coloring is because the lighting is inconsistent.  And I was supposed to shade his eyebrows but I forgot.  :pinched:

For using more colors for highlighting, I meant using more different colors  :) Like instead of using a lighter version of the base color, or pure white, use very light blue/green/yellow/purple.

Oohhh the artses! I love your pieces  <3 Hope I finish something soon; how is it possible that now that I have free afternoons I struggle to find time to draw?

@Ceru Freckles! Your progress is amazing as always, I love that portrait. Love the colours as well, I only find it a bit dark (though maybe that's what you were going for?)

@pro Don't be so harsh on yourself, I love the finished piece! The only thing is like Ceru said, it's unclear where the light is coming from. I like the colours, only maybe Lavellan's hair and skin would look better with more midtones? And the hands, the hands look perfect! (I'm obssessed with hands now  :D )

@Vor: Thanks!  <3 And yeah, the lack of midtones are because I was rushing to finish it.  Not a good idea!

Oh well... for the next drawing I'll make sure not to do that again.

edit: Here is a portrait I did recently for a friend's birthday.

This style is an experiment, but I'm quite happy with it overall.  :) Some improvements could be made, but that's progress for another drawing!

Wow pro, so nice!! I really like that style, reminds me of some old toons I used to see; in Spanish they're called "Pepita Pulgarcita", I don't know if there's an English version:

Yours is much better done, of course! It's the cutout, hand-made feeling. Looking forward to seeing more drawings in this style!

Also, I love the idea of an elven daughter to Inquisitor Trevelyan and Dorian  <3

Aah that's a good idea, guess that yellow/light blue can do well. Although actually the "white" highlight isn't really white, it's light flesh colour. The overall scenes is really dark that it looks whiter than if the colour alone is put on white. I'll try to vary the colour next time then :D

Oooh curly hair :D

I really like the way you draw the nose & the lips, they really looks rounded & soft.

One thing though, the head volume looks a bit weird to me. Basically her hair is a bit puffy right? But on the top either the hair is very thin, either there's not enough volume... That's my feeling though.

Hmm the colour being dark is an observation that many people made on this particular drawing. I was looking for a subtle colours though, I want his eyes to be the striking feature. He's a blacksmith journeyman, his personality is the gentle & quiet one... I don't think using bright colours & lighting suit him well TBH. Hmmm Idk I can always try to tweak it with photoshop... hmmm

You don't need to change it if that was your intention! I was just curious as to whether the choice of dark colours was intentional  :) Maybe you can try to see different combinations in Photoshop though, just to see how it looks.

Wow wow wow, it's been so long since I've drawn but everyone's work here and in WIP is amazing!! Everyone is continuously challenging themselves to and its very noticeable! No beginners here! ;) I've been a silent observer waaaay too long, i miss the therapeutic peacefulness when drawing. I'll pick up that pencil again and be months behind you all, but everyones work is too inspiring not too try! :)

Sooo, as I told you (or maybe not ^^) I was at my Grandma's house for some holydays, and no internet there, so I didn't bring my huge computer (I still have a desktop pc :P) but I drew (at least, I tried). I had no one to talk about dragon age, or witcher or anything else, so I drew from my passions (I have hunfreds of passions ^^).. one of them is Middle Ages so here it is ( I used er ... the huuu ... "Encyclopédie Médiévale" by Viollet-le-Duc):

@Qween Exactly! May the Pencil be with you ^^

@Mor I love those pieces, wow the gauntlet in middle, I'd love to see it coloured (just sayin' ^^) I read a post about Anglo Saxon art design, maybe you'd like it http://blog.britishm...nglo-saxon-art/At the British Museum website there are many pics of pieces that can be used as inspiration. I've been thinking about making some kind of decorated border for my drawings, and that post definitely gave me some ideas.
