An example of DAI gameplay

Here is an example of what you have been playing:
Shards. 113 of them. Probably an average of 2-3minutes per shard to collect. We'll say 2 min. That's 226 min collecting shards.
Quality gameplay right there.
3 hours and 46 minutes collecting shards.

You are absurd.
I wouldn't defend the shards as good game design (in fact, I haven't even bothered with them in 3 playthroughs), but I would also note that every single game that anyone has ever made, including every single game that Bioware has ever made, has also had it's share of annoying BS.
I still hope they keep making these games until you go away.

I'm guessing there are probably around 50. At 4 minutes each that's 200 min.
Another 3 hours and 20 min doing something boring and repetitive.

Yes, because you are clearly forced to get them all at once, right? ![]()
And all this drama about the GOTY awards, it is just another person/group opinion. Get over it.

Anyone know how many fade portals there are to close? I'd love to do the math for that tedious activity.

If you're trying to 100% the game, then of course you're bound for a lot of repetition. This is true of every single other game.

Anyone know how many resources are necessary to collect for a full completion? I'd love to do the math for that. My guess is it would be another few hours.

Don't forget about all the time you spend running from fetch point A to fetch point B on those huge lifeless maps.

It's true for any given adventure/RPG/platformer/whatever. Pretty much every genre has collectable crap and miscellaneous tasks. Like DAI, it's pretty much optional. Most people don't care about hitting 100%. If you are the sort of player who does, then good. You get to do all those repeatable, non-essential tasks, and you get rewarded with your 100% and a nice big gamer score or whatever. Don't pretend that DAI is any different than any other game in this regard though, because it isn't.

Depends on what you consider "facts" in your statement.
Yes, it takes time to collect the optional shards.
No, that doesn't make it a "a tedious, dumbed down, single player MMO".

My guess is 99% of the game is spent doing tedious stuff. And I do mean 99% LITERALLY.
Then go ahead and quantify that with your intellectually rigorous methods. Or maybe go play a different game.

So you're just posting "facts" about a game you never fully played?

I played DAI. Sadly. Which I could get those hours back.
And railing impotently on the internet is a more constructive use of your time?

Could some side quests been more interesting? Sure. That said, you aren't forced to do them all to progress.

You people seem to think all games are this tedious. Name one thing that tedious in another Bioware game other than ME space farm. That's right you can't, because they have never made a game this terrible before.
Never touched the planet scanning in ME2?
Wait, is that "ME space farm"? Wasn't sure if you were referring to that or ME1's insignias, dogtags, datadiscs and other gather thing-a-ma-jigs.

Actually, yes, your facts are wrong. Let's start with "MMO". So your contention here is that the "fetch quest" was originally designed for MMOs? Here's an interesting little tidbit for you: There were fetch quests in PnP RPGs as early as the 1970s. Which MMO did they steal those from?
Hey, did you love Origins? Did you know there were pointless time consuming fetch quests in there? If we were to be interested enough to go look, I know I'm really not, I can't believe I'm actually typing this, would we find posts by you complaining about DA O being an offline MMO? How about games in the ME series? Baldur's Gate? Are you old enough to have played Baldur's Gate when it came out? Nothing derogatory about that, some people on these forums aren't. How about Icewind Dale? The first quest on the bridge out of town? A fetch quest, to get a little boy's fish back from some goblins. Was that also an offline MMO? So yes, your facts are wrong, or, more accurately, based on an erroneous assumption, and therefore irrelevant.

Considering most of the stuff you do collect can be picked up on the way to the (arguably) major side missions, it didn't feel that tedious to me. I might roll my eyes a little at having to jump for that one shard in the Hinterlands (dragon valley), but that was just me being bad at judging jumping in Inquisition. Even Origins had collection quests. Remember the garnets? You couldn't buy 10 garnets anywhere. Or there were the nugs. Those are also all collection quests. It's something we've seen time and time again. Getting 100% of everything shouldn't be easy.

I think ME3 "collect of war assets to get a different color in the end" was way more pointless boring!
At least we got a probing joke in ME2! ![]()
