I know. I bought both of them. That doesn't mean that the cast of the first one isn't boring boring boring compared with some of the gold in Bioware's more recent games. And honestly, I infinitely prefer the combat in any of the DA games to that. I just don't like whichever edition that was very much.

FWIW, I never got into BG2 the first time around so I'm looking forward to digging into that.

Not disagreeing with you on that bit. In BG1 they mostly just dish out one-liners here and there, or make a comment about the surroundings.

In BG2 they followers are more like the ones in DA. They have their own quests and storylines, and you can have long conversations with them, and even romance a few of them.

You can't initiate conversations with them yourself though.

BG1 suffers from too many NPCs, so most of them aren't fleshed out as much as they could have been. There are 29 possible companions. Oo

BG2 is better for so many reasons but one of the most important ones is that it has an actual villain. Not something like Corypheus. :P

Oh, the EE companions have their own quests (not sure about Baeloth) in BG1 and more of that in BG2. Neera's is excellent and I just started with Rasaad's.

Dave Gross wrote the new companions + the new quests, I think he said it was him, anyway.

Very good writer. He writes novels for pathfinder now.

On the contrary, there are objectively good and bad games. If someone tried to get you to buy Pong for $60 you'd laugh at them.

Unless, like DA:I, Pong had just recently come out as a home console. In which case it was a huge success, a historical milestone, a timeless pop culture icon and had an original retail price of over $400 ( adjusted for inflation ) that people gladly paid for.

But hey, don't let facts get in the way. >.>

Little danger of that, he hasn't allowed it to happen yet.

Yes, I admire his dedication if nothing else.
