First, let me say that I FREAKING LOVE THIS GAME!!!
Ahem...ok...
so getting the DLC. I was kinda bummed about having to start my game with no DLC armors or weapons. I did get the Normandy mission which was a nice little side quest. The armors and weapons would show up as downloadable content but I was never able to download them. However, upon exiting to the dashboard, both downloads come through in a mere 2-3 minutes and I was able to go back in the game and use my COLLECTOR'S ARMOR and RIFLE. AWESOME!!!!! I love how crusty and just plain unfriendly it makes me look. Try selecting the DLC and queueing it and then exiting the game. I worked for me.
Scanning planets.
I've heard a lot of complaints about how slow it is and I do agree that if done a certain way it is super slow and tedious. However, I found a way that speeds things up a tad and makes it easier to scan.
Basically, hold down the LT and I think it is just the right analog stick the you move (Not sure if I'm remembering correctly here. Curse my feeble memory!). this will keep the reticule stationary while turning the planet. All you have to do is go from top of a planet to the bottom doing full left or right sweeps and dropping down a grid or two after each sweep.
Sounds more confusing that it really is.
Anyways, hope that helps.

Yeah, that's the method I use, except I push both analog sticks to the right, which makes it go a wee bit faster. Once you get the improved scanner, it's even quicker. In the latter parts of the game when I've got loads of resources, I've taken to another method: starting at the top, I scan right until I hit something, then go down a row and repeat, hitting 5 probes per planet. This gives me a sampling of the elements available on that planet (so if you strike eezo you can do a more thorough sweep). Plus, if I'm ever hard up for resources I can go back and have a clear starting and stopping place to continue scans from, and I'll be able to tell the planets I've completely tapped out from those I've just surveyed.

If you import a character from ME1, you get 50k ezo, why would anyone need more than that? You will have every upgrade requireing it and be able to respec several times before you run out. ezo on a planet is a waste
