Yes it is time to **** on everyone else's tastes, to start off a few rules, lets try to be civil here, it is ok to disagree with somebody else's opinion and if you feel that someones observations on a particular game are a tad unfair it is ok to explain why you disagree with them provided you do so in a civil manner, what I don't want to see is "OMG YOU ARE A ****** MORON DRAGON AGE INQUISITION IS THE BEST GAME EVER!!!!". Also if you are going to put forward the name of a game that you feel is overrated then a reason must be given, no single sentence posts that give little more insight than "Witcher 2 sucks, heil Dragon Age". And for the final rule you must have actually played the game as how can you say that a game does not deserve it's praise when you never even bothered to give it a go?

For me while I don't hate this game I really don't see what the fuss is, The Last of Us, to me it just seems like standard fare, another linear cinematic action adventure from Naughty Dog that brings little new to the table, to be fair the graphics and animations do look good but then that seems to be their sole focus of Naughty Dog as their games jump from one linear action set piece to another, almost as if they had originally planned for the game to be a movie but after being turned down by every movie publisher they decided to throw in some basic 3rd person shooter gameplay and try to pass it off as a game. The crafting is incredibly shallow and limited consisting of only a very limited number resources to use and craftable objects, stealth does not really move much past throwing an object to create distractions and moving past guys while they arent looking and the gunplay does not do anything that the Uncharted series does not already do, perhaps even less.

I know people are going to say that the story is what makes the game so great and not the gameplay but I fail to see what is so great about the story either? To me it seems like a fairly standard Zombie apocalypse where one survivor holds the key to humanities survival in her genes. Oh wow they have a child who we are given little time to get to know and thus little time to care about who dies at the start of the game, soo artistic and emotional, even Ellie (seriously Naughty Dog?) I found to be obnoxious and unlikeable, usually when I see a child swearing like a trooper in order to appear tough I don't usually equate that as being "cute and adorable" but rather kind of pathetic, the writing in this game is more akin to that of a bad TV drama.

I have no idea how this game got so much critical acclaim but it is almost like some people watched the E3 footage and made the decision that this was going to be the best game ever and that caught on as popular opinion, then rather than appear the uneducated philistine (or possibly to avoid angry rants and death threats from the fan boys for giving the game less than a 9) people just parroted the popular opinion and what everyone else was saying instead of forming their own opinion.

Fallout: New Vegas.

I don't know why. I just think it's kinda "meh". I mean it's not bad but I much prefer 3. 3 felt darker, gritter and much more bleak than NV. At least to me. I know Obsidian is this underdog unsung god among many of us gamers. But maybe I just don't care for their stories or whatever, but I never seem to enjoy their games, save for KoToR II.

But yeah. I finished the Vegas strip quests and then called it quits. I never finished the stuff between the NCR and Caesar. The game fell flat for me.

The Gabriel Knight series, due specifically to the gameplay itself - Writing and Storyline is great, but the level of obtuse solutions to progress through the game drove me a little too batty to enjoy. I tried it with a FAQ, wasn't much better. It's generally why I avoid old school-ish Point-And-Click adventure games these days.

Just a reminder, while you don't have to go on a rant an explanation as to why you think a certain game is overrated would be helpful rather than just saying "Spec ops: The Line" without any context

"tag, you're it" is extremely overrated. The game mechanics are very basic, the platform is too physical. Let us not forget the fluctuating difficulty levels and the scaling that appears in the form of your mom saying "go easy on your brother, he is only 3." Sounds a lot like a casual to me.

One thing I do like about tag is the open world nature but the mmo style version of sharing the enviroment, allows me to step out of my comfort zone. The performance is great and the graphics are superb. Presentation can only take you so far.

Tag has a very simple mechanic which can get very repetitive. It is up to the user to make the game interesting by coming up with creative evasive locations. This simple system does not allow for any variety of play. You are better off spending you money on a linear adventure like hopscotch.

Conclusion : One of ubisoft' worst products /10

I can't think of many games I truly think "suck." I suppose the closest would be KotOR II, I found it to be a pretty good game if you ignored Kreia and the "Dark Side" of the plot, but they (her and her two pals) are pretty insufferable. Anytime I play now I skip her dialog, because she sounds like a college freshman straight out of their first philosophy class (to clarify, my reason is because the plot and her arc soapbox is basically anti-Star Wars (not deconstruction, this is too reactionary for that), "there is no good and evil" tripe that a n00b college student espouses). Could say something similar for Alpha Protocol, but I thought that game was a lot better story-wise.

I don't think the Witcher series is the end-all-be-all that some do, but I don't really have any real complaints about it, and I enjoy it.

I find the original Deus Ex terrible clunky and un-intuitive for me, but that's likely because I didn't play it when it came out.

Really, I'm more of the opposite, the guy who likes games people love to hate. FF XIII (FF in general), Ubisoft games, Bioware games, Star Wars TFU, etc.

Alpha Protocol.

I just didn't find it engaging at all. Combat is garbage, bugs were numerous, dialogue options were incredibly vague. Doesn't help that the MC is an asshat either.

Deus Ex was clunky even when it came out but for some reason even that worked in it's favor, while it is probably not the best design and definitely not a design decision I would make today the attribute based shooting mechanics where the gun takes a longer time to focus and steady at lower skill levels actually worked in the games favor as it required the player to find alternate solutions and paths through the game rather than just blasting their way through it like every other first person shooter of the era. Deus Ex was much more about using your wits and making clever use of the resources you have on hand, it required you to do detective work sifting through emails to find door codes, hidden stashes and alternate routes, it was called "the thinking man's shooter" for a reason. There really arent many games out there like Deus Ex which is why so many gamers hold it in such high regard, and while admittedly it has not aged as well as some other games it still holds it's place in my top 3 favorite games of all time.

Skyrim.

I'm just not a fan of RPGs where the game world is the focus rather than the characters populating it. Bethesda makes beautiful open world sandboxes that are filled with a barebones story, lifeless characters and equally dull quests.

Best example I can think of is Gears of War. That game was pulling 9/10s and 10/10s from reviewers everywhere... then I played it and was like "Wow, this is really mediocre and boring. How it got such high ratings is a mystery to me."

A lot of people also praised Halo 2 to high heavens but I thought it was totally inferior to the original, both gameplay and story-wise. In fact, I think Halo 1 itself was just a fluke. Nothing Bungie has done since then has been up to par IMHO.

And that's about it really.

The best example that I've played has to be Trine 2 which seemed to have gotten a lot of good reviews. I really just didn't enjoy it because I felt like the surface was very fantasy-esque and kind of warm but the game itself didn't necessarily feel that way. In other words, the warmth and such was only surface level and I couldn't make it past a certain point, I just gave up and haven't had any desire to play it again.

I mean if you change the textures to the Mushroom Kingdom, is it really any different? I don't know...

Although I should say I never actually beat the thing, and perhaps that might of changed my total opinion, but I remember one town/castle part being kind of cool, and really the rest was just a blur that I didn't really enjoy.

Huh. Here I'd think you would praise a game involving so much touching.

I'm just gonna say the usual ones I say. Anything by modern Naughty dog, Halo series and the Tomb raider reboot. Honestly with these game I tend to just hate the writing. The gameplay is mostly decent apart from their over use of cheap ass instakills.

Lost Oddessy. I found the story to stupid and the combat was uninspired.

The Bioshock series. It's just a generic FPS.
