If they didn't get it right with DAI which they had years of development then I'm not sure if they ever will. I'll stick around for DA4's development, but now considering that apparently we can't trust ANYTHING that comes out before the game is released, not even freaking interviews with the devs, then I'm having a hard time imagining how the hell will I know if the game is going to be better or not.

As a fan who has always been more into the ME series, this painful realization hit with the ME3 ending. The dev interviews with high ups like Mike Gamble and Casey Hudson SPECIFICALLY and SIGNIFICANTLY contradicted what we got. Thankfully they did do some patchwork on that mess with DLC but none of those jaded fans are likely to forget the lesson: don't trust anything a Bioware developer says pre-release.

Okay I think we can end this thread by summarizing what the next 100 posts will basically be.

"Wow Bioware false advertising Pre-alpha 10x better than **** we got"

"Wow game is broken"

"Wow wish we got that game *rolls eyes*

"Every game does this. DA2 and Mass Effect had footage that never made it to the game"

"Last time I trust Bioware. Never pre-ordering again. GG,"

And I suppose we all forgot this:

How much of that was in the final game? 20%, at best?

Other than a few artistic differences in the character models what did we really lose? You're really comparing this to the hatchet job inquistions features got?

It's like going to see Suicide Squad and expecting to see Tom Hardy(He was announced, He quit)

Except theres no footage of Tom Hardy in SS at all because they haven't even started filming yet. BTW they are already looking at Jake Gyenthall(might of spell last name wrong).

Interview with the lead designer of Origins.

Pre-alpha screenshot! (ca. 2004)

That screenshot was 2004. Origins came out in 2009. Inquisition was showing us features that were supposed to be in the game mere months before release.

You really are that naive? This is has been going on for years and not just Bioware.

Gearbox is actually being sued for it but what they did was far far worse.

Did I stutter or something?

Well, yes.. someone just asked for a pre-alpha footage, so there you go. Features shown in a footage months before release are of course not pre-alpha.

Difference is Origins ended up much better than the pre-alpha build. Inquisition ended up worse. As for the Mass Effect comparison, most of the stuff in the video is just window dressing. The core features still made it in to the final cut. The core features in the pre-Alpha Inquisition build where cut from the final release. Big difference.

Not to mention the "promises" were viedo recordied interviews with the LEAD DESIGNER stating what the game was, who it was for, what was in it, how it would work, very specifically identifying individual things about the game, that were blatantly false!

Have no sympathy for you. ITS COMMON freaking sense to not expect the game to be accurate from the alpha footage you saw.

This happens with all games. Stop trying to pin it only on BioWare.

Again, your holding onto that one video and acting as if that one video is what everyone is clamoring over..

WE ARE PISSED ABOUT ALL THE INTERVIEWS, AND FLASE STATMENTS MADE BY SEVERAL DEVELOPERS AND DESIGNERS.. As little as DAYS prior to release.. The Alpha Footage, yes, soem thing end up cut.. But tell me why lpha graphics are better than the most powerful possibility of what went live... Watch Dogs was also scrutinized for the same thing.. We are in a BIOWARE forum, talking about a BIOWARE game.. The discussion is DIRECTLY RELATED to Bioware... Get off their Jock!

"everyone does it" doesnt make it ok..  I grew up In South Baltimore with cocaine dealers, and murderers.. So by your ideaology, i could sell coke, and murder people, because "everyone else does it"..  Mmk... Nice to know i have something to fall back on...

It's becoming incredibly hard to be a gamers nowadays!

We can't trust samples.

We can't trust alpha.

We can't trust Betas.

We can't trust journalists.

We can't trust reviews.

We can't trust devs.

We can't trust producers.

So, what now? Use a wet finger?

Don't forget fanboys and people who buy the game as a dating sim

Well? The footage they showed was clearly a working game, and looked a lot closer to what the fans actually wanted.
So? Why the hell did it change??

We're the execs so worried about Witcher 3 sucking the life out of sales they striped it down and rushed it out?

As someone who wasn't closely following the interviews and other pre-launch hype stuff, could you point me to some examples of the blatantly false promises made days before launch? This is genuine btw.

I'd also like to point out that this particular topic is actually called "Pre-Alpha vs Final Product". For anyone who has worked in the games industry, this title comes across as a joke; pre-alpha content almost always varies significantly from the final product. Any footage being presented as "pre-alpha", or even "alpha", should be taken as such.

Of course, if statements and materials (screenshots, videos) presented close to release are blatantly false, then that's a pretty significant problem and should be criticized.

Teddie says: Please, when you speak, do not include other posters. Only use the pronoun "I" to describe things you like and dislike. Saying "we" makes you sound omniscient, which you aren't. Alpha graphics probably look better because it's how they imagine their characters at first, but then they realize when they're programming some scenes that their looks simply don't fit with the stories they're trying to tell, or that the old models are glitching too much, so they take an alternate route to recreate their characters from scratch. Now, even though we're on a BioWare forum discussing about a BioWare game, we should remain civilized. There are so much hostilities here, the moderators are getting tired of us always bickering and the BioWare staff members are heartbroken and are going through a burnout with all the things they're trying to fix, just to make people happy.

Remember to spoonfeed certain people with links of this footage. Otherwise it isn't true, and you are just a hater. (sarcasm).

Paragon/Renegade Interrupts were originally supposed to be in ME1. It was cut when they couldn't get it to work as well as they wanted within the time that they had, and ended up being brought back for ME2. In fact that was one the features people who were following the development were most looking forward to. Immediately after ME1 was released there was no shortage of "What happened to interrupts?" posts.

Another was that gunfire and biotics had a lot more effect on the game enviroment. You can see that in the posted trailer, where biotics cause a structure to shatter and collapse. That also didn't make the game. (or the sequels)

How old are you?  This is NOTHING new. All Companies do this.  There are DA2 Trailers with ALPHA FOOTAGE  that was NEVER in the game. How hard is that for you to grasp.   THEY ARE NOT SHOWING YOU THIS FINISHED PRODUCT. THINGS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

Oh and just so you know, there was far more rage on this forum for DA2 than there is for Inquisition.

I think it just shows what kind of company Bioware has become. They used to under promise and over deliver, now they over promise and under deliver. Its a garbage company now.

The stuff which is shown at the game expos and such often has very little to do with actual working game. It's smoke and mirrors, a "slice" that's intended to dazzle and maybe show what the devs hope the experience with the game will be like. But nothing more than that.

If it gets changed, it's usually because when more of actual game gets built and can be tested, it either turns out these 'concepts' aren't as fun as they seem to be when you get to watch 15-30 mins of footage, or the deadlines come and things get cut just so functional game can be shipped at all. Sometimes both.

Back during DA2 there were people shocked and mortified that they changed Cassandra's hair from white to black

Cassandra.RiseToPowetTrailer.png

Theres also a DA2 Trailer where Carver and Bethany can be seen running through Darktown and people complained for weeks after the game came out when that was NOT in the game.

People should have the common sense by now NEVER to expect alpha footage to be the actual finished product. Things are subject to change.

They already said there would be a future content patch...people need to stop complaining and wait it out

DA2 was also produced under EA. Notice a pattern? The games Bioware produced before EA got involved never felt rushed or overly dumbed down.
