DA2 was also produced under EA. Notice a pattern? The games Bioware produced before EA got involved never felt rushed or overly dumbed down.

Don't act like DA:O wasn't an EA game.

Still waiting on the links btw. But seeing as you like to tell fairytales, I doubt I'll see it.

And yes, you should provide the link. I'm not going to work to substantiate YOUR claims. That's your job, not mine.

It was an EA game by definition (obviously), but according to the lead developer of DA:O, Brent Knowles, EA didn't have any influence in its development.

Q: BioWare became a property of Electronic Arts in late 2007. How exactly did that influence the development of Dragon Age? Was there pressure from above to change things? We know that there was a definite shift in the way the game was marketed, including a change of logo that many fans came to see as ominous in retrospect. But what of the game itself?

A: In my opinion, Electronic Arts had no real influence on Dragon Age: Origins. At that point there had already been so many delays that nobody sane would have considered adding any more hurdles to the project. Yes, there were perhaps some misdirected marketing messages, but the game itself… there's nothing that changed that I can remember that was prompted by Electronic Arts.

That I can remember.
Perhaps

You guys really only read what you wanna read. That statement is completely hollow.

Pre-alpha stuff shows all the "we'd like to do Q, X, Y and Z" and then it turns out Q takes too long, X really can't be done and Y is impossible to balance and get dropped. All pre-alpha literally should tell you is:

-- There is a game we think we will build

-- It is going to be a (broadly speaking) first person, 3rd person, party based type game

If you draw any more conclusions than that, well that is your problem.

Well, this guy was "just" the lead designer responsible for the entire game. The Laidlaw and Darrah rolled into one.

I'd take his memories of the events over your baseless speculation, guesswork and wishful thinking any day. The denial in your response is quite amusing, but this guy was not under oath, either - I'm surprised you didn't mention that.

Also, he mentions that no sane person would have tried to change the development of DA:O at the time EA bought Bioware, so if you're implying otherwise, then you consider EA to be insane?

Which guesswork and speculation? I'm only pointing out that that statement is so full of clauses it's almost impossible to take seriously.

No clauses.

Back during DA2 there were people shocked and mortified that they changed Cassandra's hair from white to black

Cassandra.RiseToPowetTrailer.png

Theres also a DA2 Trailer where Carver and Bethany can be seen running through Darktown and people complained for weeks after the game came out when that was NOT in the game.

People should have the common sense by now NEVER to expect alpha footage to be the actual finished product. Things are subject to change.

They already said there would be a future content patch...people need to stop complaining and wait it out

Let me clear up some confusion.

Bioware developers "wanted" to ship the game we saw in that footage. Developers are by default, passionate about their projects and creative vision. They would have tweaked and tuned the game to give the kind of experience they wanted, as long as it took, to actual do that. I recall an old "Valve" comment. "When it's done".

EA holds the purse strings, and dictates where money can be spent, on what.

The footage we saw, high lighted tell tale bioware signatures. Making decisions that impact the game world, and have weight.
I don't care about graphics, though I did notice you "see" skyhold pjs underneath the inquisitors armor.
What I care about is gameplay, and the Bioware stamp "decisions matter" is decidedly missing from the game that shipped.

That makes me sad.

It also makes me wish it was possible for Bioware to break free of EAs constraints, and go crowd funded.

Star Citizen anyone?

Fans support excellence.

At any rate, I don't think anything was cut because Bioware devs wanted to cut it. More likely, EA forced them too.

Yup. It's fairly clear that the real goal wasn't reached. Bioware admitted as much with the only solid quotes we've heard from them since release: "We ran out of time." It's just a sad situation.

DA:O was pretty much done when EA took over. They had nothing to do with the development. You getting money for blindly defending EA doesn't change that.

Sadly, I suspect he's doing this pro bono.

(but if he's doing this for money, listen up EA, I'm a far better writer and I'll take your money!!)
