I agree that bioware seriously needs to step it up with their art design and variety of gear in DA4. DAI had so much awful looking gear and SO many reused graphics Which was a shame, because the few sets that actually looked good were fantastic, but there were so few of those it's hard to feel impressed.
My bigger complaint though was the absolutely disgraceful hair choices, which were hands down the worst of any game I ever played. (Including crappy KMMOs with like 4 hair styles to choose from) I understand wanting a certain look so huge poofy flowing hair probably wouldn't fit, and I get the whole clipping thing too, but what about wanting to play a female character who actually looks feminine and has feminine hair. I mean, I don't want my Femquis to be a Maybelline model or something, but I shouldn't be forced to have horrible looking stereotype butch lesbian hair, buzz cut G.I. Joe hair that doesn't even fit Dragon Age, or awkward ugly copy pastes from males who also had all hideous hair.
Then there's also the character creation with awful lighting that doesn't appear anywhere in game, terrible sameface problems and weird, awkward sliders that always felt too hard to tweak and generally no fun at all. And better yet no facecodes to at least remake a good face if you manage to, by some miracle make something you like, or for people to share their own Inquis.
Thank god for appearance mods, I'd have been unable to play DAI without them.
