Unhappy with ME 3 style Tech Armour?

Want a return to ME 2 style Tech Armour?

Well this build is supposed to be the closest approximation to the charging bull assault armour Sentinel from ME 2.

This build takes plays more emphasis on Tech Armour however other powers such as  Warp, Throw, Overload and Cryo Blast will come in handy.

Your tools for killing mooks are your tech armour and shotguns (melee being optional).

In addition to bring back the "Assault Armour" shield boost I'm bringing Defence Matrix.

I highly recommend bringing a squad mate with an ammo power (with squad evolution). Squad mates with ammo powers are: James Vega for Incendiary Ammo, Garrus Vakarian for Armour Piercing Ammo, Liara T'Soni for Warp ammo and Ashley Williams for Disruptor Ammo.

The lift grenades are not very ME 2 like though you could pick up grenade bonus powers in ME 2 (they weren't that good). The reason they're in this build is because this is at heart an aggressive soldier build that has two powers competing for cool downs. So having the grenades fills that third hot key slot.

The Build

Tech Armour [Rank 6]: Damage And Radius, Power Damage, Durability

Defence Matrix [Rank 6]: Shield Recharge, Power Synergy, Durability

Lift Grenade [Rank 6]: Damage, Max Grenades, Damage and Radius

Fitness [Rank 6]: Durability, Squad Bonus, Fitness Expert

Offensive Mastery [Rank 6]: Force and Damage, Weight Capacity, Force and Damage

Other Powers: Cryo Blast and Overload can come in handy. Warp and Throw are useful for combos. I'll leave this up to the player.

Shotgun of Choice: Wraith.

Backup Side Arm: Phalanx. [Surpressor if you have Citadel DLC]

Preferred Squad Mates: James Vega for Squad Incendiary Ammo and EDI/Garrus for taking care of Shields with Overload.

Tali is effective for her combat drone and energy drain. However she doesn't appear till later on. If you have her, she's very useful.

If you do pick EDI don't put points into her Defense Matrix.

Phantoms and Guardians are in trouble when you have Liara T'Soni's stasis bubble.

Tactics:

Rush in for the most part gunning down foes with your shotgun. When shields are low purge your tech armour then purge your defence matrix. Then quickly apply both of your powers. If you're in a tricky situation use your grenades.

James Vega will provide the incendiary ammo, tanking and some additional grenades. EDI or EDI will be on board to dish out overloads for shielded foes. Though at times it might be handy to pick Liara for her Stasis.

I'm open to feedback.

If you have any ideas on how to improve this build, be it weapons, squad mates or powers please let me know.

The opening post might change as the result of feedback.

I'd suggest full Kassa Fabrication armor + Sentry Interface for the armor. You'll need those extra shields to charge enemies. I also have some doubts about the overall playstyle, mostly due to Tech Armor not acting as a detonator for power combos. According to wiki it does 600 damage with Damage & Radius evolution which is lower than your Lift Grenades. Also, IIRC, there is cooldown after purging Tech Armor. You won't be able to purge Defense Matrix right away.

I'd take Tali to deal with shields, her Energy Drain recharges much faster than Garrus's and EDI's Overload. Her drone should also help to avert some fire from yourself.

Maybe have Cryo Blast for safer battlefield navigation?

Thanks buddy.

I've made some alterations.

I've changed the wording a little. The emphasis is still on tech armour however I have decided not to rule out other powers.

ME2 style Sentinel should only have one power: tech armor. It was the only power I ever got to cast when playing on insanity. All my other powers were useless since all my cool downs were devoted to tech armor. As such, my bonus power was almost always armor piercing.

Can't quite get to the absurd range of Assault Armor in ME2, but a TA detonating build is viable in ME3.  Best for stagger, not really outright damage since you can't throw on enough power bonuses to get it up to basic enemy HP (at least at high level).  That's fine anyway though since Assault Armor didn't really kill mooks outright typically, unless you are talking about several detonations (like Object Rho the simple way).

Anyway, DM or Fortification should be good.  Since you are stacking DR and penalties, might be a little safer to go the lighter weapon route.  Suppressor is actually very good with TA detonate build (good with nearly everything, but stagger from TA also helps).  Wraith is also of course great in SP as well.

Wraith and Suppressor. Sound like great choices. :wizard:

WARNING: Long post.

ME2 Tech Armor did the following:

 1. Restored some shields when activated

 2. Automatically detonated when shields reached 0

 3. Restored some shields when detonated (Assault Armor evolution only)

 4. Detonation staggered most enemies; detonation could kill if enemies were low on health

 3. Cooldown began when activated

Obviously, ME3 Tech Armor works differently:

 1. Armor must be manually detonated

 2. Detonation (max) radius is smaller

 3. No longer restores shields when activated

 4. Provides damage protection when active

 5. Cooldown begins on purge

 6. Cooldowns increased while active

No single-player power adds shields to you when activated. However, as your suggested build does, you use Defense Matrix and Tech Armor to simulate different aspects of ME3 Tech Armor:

 - Tech Armor for detonation, like ME2 tech armor

 - Defense Matrix for shield restore, like ME2 tech armor

Now, if you want an ME2-style Sentinel, it depends on what playstyle of the ME2 Sentinel you are trying to emulate.

Caster-type Sentinel:

ME3 Sentinel has all the same powers as the ME2 Sentinel, even if they do not work in quite the same way: Tech Armor, Cryo Blast, Overload, Warp, Throw (plus any returning Bonus Power).

So depending on how you built -- or wanted to build -- your ME2 caster-type sentinel, you can do it in ME3. In many ways, a caster-type Sentinel is much easier/better in ME3 since you do not have to put/waste points into Tech Armor, although Tech Armor is good for a caster-type Sentinel in that it provides damage protection and can add power damage to your powers.

Tank Sentinel:

If you viewed the ME2 Sentinel more like a tank -- able to absorb a lot of damage while you shoot and kill enemies -- then Tech Armor and any combination of Defense Matrix, Fortification, or Barrier would work. Defense Matrix for the shield purge or Fortification for the extra damage protection is preferred. Use with any weapon(s) you want.

Walking Hand Genade Sentinel:

This is more in line with what the original post is trying to recreate, using Defense Matrix (shield restore on purge) and Tech Armor (detonation on purge) to try and simulate ME2's Tech Armor abilities.

Now, to achieve a Walking Hand Grenade playstyle, you have a couple of options:

OPTION 1: Defense Matrix and Tech Armor purges:

 1. Get in close, maybe shoot for a bit to whittle down enemy health.

 2. Detonate Tech Armor. Maybe shoot for a bit while on cooldown to kill enemies still alive or whittle down their health

 3. Purge Defense Matrix for the shield restore.

 4. Take cover briefly while on cooldown

 5. Re-activate Tech Armor and Defense Matrix

To keep manageable cooldowns, you can:

 - Use lighter weapons, while keeping your weapon weight close to +200%. DLC is good for some light overpowered weapons. Some vanilla-game weapons are good although some are picked up on specific missions or purchasable from Spectre Requisitions terminal at a high cost.

 - Take the Recharge Speed evolutions at rank 6 of Tech Armor and Defense Matrix. This will reduce the cooldown penalty to only -50%; Damage Reduction will be at only at a max +60% instead of +80%, but that can still be sufficient. NOTE that taking the detonation bonus at rank 4 of Tech Armor and shield purge bonus at rank 4 of Defense Matrix will reduce the Damage Protection bonus to +50% to +70% depending on rank 6 evolutions.

OPTION 2: The ME3 Multiplayer Turian Sentinel playstyle

Castle Arcade Turian (conversation only).

Everything's Coming Up Tech Armor! - Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer by xcalizorz.

Tech Armor, Overload, and Warp.

Basically, use Overload to strip shields and/or stagger enemies, then run in and detonate. Use Warp as an armor debuff, shoot and detonate.
