It wasn't the bugs, or the missing maps, or BWAmelia's communication, or the Reaver nerfs, or anything like that. It was, without a doubt, the toxic responses from this "community". I use the term "community" lightly because that implies some sense of togetherness, mutual respect, or progressive desire to build...not tear down. Honestly for every build advice/strategy thread I'd see, there were 3 "lol this game sucks". Before the controversy of the patch the excuse was RNG loot, lack of progression, and a million examples of why DAMP isn't as good as ME3MP. I have a question for those in this "community" who are absolutely disgusted with BioWare, DAMP, or whatever else you're raging at this week.

Why are you here?

What possess you to post responses in a forum for a video game that you loathe? Why do you spend so much time ranting about something you don't like and just go find something that you actually enjoy? What are you hoping to accomplish by staying? Do you realize that this is abnormal behavior? It's not healthy adjusted behavior. Normal people who don't care about something, have stopped enjoying something, or experience severe anger/anxiety over something,  STOP engaging in that behavior.

Why are you here?

I couldn't care less about competitive water polo so guess what? I don't populate whatever official web forum community exists surrounding the sport, ranting about how much I hate how the players look, how dumb the game is, and how stupid fans are for enjoying the sport. It's not a priority in my life. It's not on my radar of "things to give a **** about". That's what "not caring" REALLY looks like. So, before you post your next rage filled rant, just stop and ask yourself...

Why are you here?

If people didn't care then they wouldn't be here.  The short simple answer is that the people bothering to come here and post DO care.  They WANT this game to be as awesome as Bioware seems to think it already is.

Why are YOU here?

Well, I'm here because I do enjoy DA:I even if it has flaws and I want to see Bioware fix these bugs. But, I'm pretty sure I have seen a post or two from you where you complain about some of the very topics you listed as complain threads( unless it was someone with a similar Avi, which is entirely possible ) if so, I apologize.

Contrary to your belief, majority of the people here, including those complaining, actually like, enjoy and care about the game very much.

I'm still here because I have hope.

I'm still here because I'm moderately invested.

I'm still here because DAMP could literally be one of the best co-op MPs. could be.

I'm still here because I care about some of the forumers here.

I'm still here because...

I am entertained.

We are angry because we do care. One of the very first lines in my video was 'This is the best fantasy coop game I have ever played'. And its true. I am angry because 30% of the time (statistically proven figure) I cannot complete a match.

I imagine a lot of people feel the same way.

You are complaining about the "toxic" environment of this community, yet you created your own thread provoking them in a toxic way by suggesting them having abnormal behavior problems and asking the same question in a frustrated manner. This thread does nothing to improve the community environment even if it is as bad as you claim it to be but to add fuel to the fire. So I sincerely hope we can drop this discussion and focus back on the games.

I'm here because where else would I ****** about things? Its not like I have friends who understand my Bioware problems or anything.

But no, seriously, the reason why I'm here and talk about the things I don't like is because I have expectations of Bioware that they've yet to reach. They've done it before. That I give them lip that they fail to do it now is a sign that I give a **** about them, still, and have faith despite you know, people rolling out. I give them lip because I am a consumer, and as such I have the right to complain when my product isn't as great as advertised or isn't working properly.

I admit that there is so much despair and toxicity here at times that I just laugh at it and feel sorry for the Bioware guy that walks in and turns around feeling like the whole community is against him. But that is the mess they made, the festering blister that they left alone for a month or two. They dug that hole themselves.

I dunno, just, thoughts.

It would be like if you went to a restaurant and ordered a steak. And the steak is so melt-in-your-mouth amazing you tell all your friends how amazing this steak is. You go back to the restaurant the next day and you have the steak again. Its still amazing! This time it has peppercorn sauce which is cooked to perfection. You are happy as f*ck. Then the third day, you visit the restaurant and you order the steak. The waiter brings out a boiled shoe.'What the f*ck?!' you say. 'I ordered the steak, not this shoe! I cant even eat this!'. Nevertheless, you leave and go home without saying anything, thinking this must be some kind of cruel joke.

4th day. You come back to the restaurant. You order the steak. Another shoe. This time you speak up and ask the waiter, 'hey, I ordered the steak but this is just a shoe! I cant eat this!'. The waiter shrugs and walks back to the kitchen without saying a word. You are pretty miffed. But the steak was amazing the first few times, so its got to be worth another shot right?

5th day. There is an announcement on the front door. 'Steak is back on the menu!'. 'Great!' you think. Ill get that. You excitedly run into the restaurant. You order the steak. Shoe. This time, you stand up and shout 'Hey, you in the kitchens, I ordered the damn steak, where is it? Why haven't your suppliers given you any beef to cook? You said there would be steak!'. The chef responds, 'Why are you complaining? We have some of the best suppliers in the catering business! They would never bring us shoes without telling us!'. You sit down and leave, getting kind of frustrated.

6th day. Shoe.

7th day. Steak! You didn't enjoy it as much though because you spent the whole day wondering if you would get a shoe or not.

8th day. Shoe. Thats it. You take photos of the shoe and start recording on your mobile phone. 'Hey chef? What the hells going on? I ordered steak and you aren't giving it to me? I paid for this steak already!'. The chef responses 'Ive just about had it with your complaining. If you hate this restaurant so much why dont you go and find a different one?'. You notice the chef speaking to his friend 'god these customers never are happy, I dont give them steak, they want steak. I give them half cooked steak, they want it cooked properly. I give them a shoe, they say they dont like it!' You write this down too.

9th day. You post your findings onto a billboard where everyone who visits the restaurant can see it. Some people are outraged. They were promised steak too. They also think the chef has a bad attitude and needs to be held accountable for his actions. Some people side with the chef. 'Well, he was just telling his friend, so he shouldn't be held accountable for that'. Then the chef responds. 'Well it looks like you've taken these photos at such an angle that it looks like i am a bad chef! You used to be a good customer, now I see that you are the villain in all of this! A sneaky villain! Im never telling you people what each dish on the menu contains again!'.

I suspect people are here because they actually want DAMP to be what ME3 MP was or near enough to it.
Some would be here to watch the train wreck.

For me mostly A. With a touch of B.
I want to see how it turns out.

For serious, right?

I really feel like the Russell Crowe Gladiator pretty much fits DAMP, the devs, and the community perfectly XDDDDDDD

I wish he played video games so we could get him to come post in the forum.

He's way too busy being a straight bad ass, though, or so I'm told.

I wish I had only the 30% failure figure like everyone else has (or has had) to worry about.

My chances of finding a public game or getting pugs to join my games is 0%. My chances of successfully joining my friends games are 50% at best, on a good day.
That is how the Matchmaking works for 3rd world players.
Bioware has given me no response on this whatsoever , and I don't have the energy to bring this issue any further. I just play the game in whatever way I can.

Though I am mostly just observing the rant which has taken place here over the last few days, I find all complaints pretty reasonable. I hope that, if anything, Bioware starts to question itself about the way they manage their games and their playerbase.

OP, I really get where you are coming from, I could have written your post myself, but didn't because:

For all the seeming toxicity, the folk who are complaining are deeply invested in the franchise.

Hate is too strong an emotion to waste on something you don't even like.

They have had the best of times with BioWare games in the past and not having that excitement again is like an addictive withdrawal (apparently).

It really hurts when folk see something tantalisingly short of being great.

It's like messing up the end to a great TV serial.

Or discovering a ding in your car.

I don't like it when the angry threads do stuff like:

  • Stating an opinion as fact.
  • Generalisation
  • Poor logical argument
  • Believing there is a legal claim
  • Entitlement
  • And particularly, getting angry personally with individuals over the construction of a game.

But I do respect people's points and concerns and will try to understand the point being made, and so should we all even if we don't agree after consideration. And I will try to take them to task about how they say it if it's not fair or reasonable or just plain mean.

Hey, I have my own problems, I didn't make nearly 3,000 posts these last years because I'm mildly interested.

This franchise scratches an itch I miss from playing D&D as a student.

Just as there is a group of folk who are upset if there is a shortfall in expectation, there is a group of folk

desperate to see only good, because to do otherwise would be too upsetting.

I hope those who are being critical can understand that those who are being highly positive are just as invested as they are (or were), it's just being expressed in a different way. That doesn't make them 'fanboy's/girls', 'Biodrones' or whatever the term is.

TLDR Summary

They are here because they want to be and because they are upset.

Some folk are having a hard time because of how the game is designed or how it works on their machine.

Their upset may be a minority concern in a sea of happy casual gamers (and some hardcore gamers are happy too).

But if I was the one person whose game didn't work when I'm really invested, that would suck.

What you said was not wrong.

Some of the more extreme posts are really bad and personal and out of order.

Yes, some folk need to take a chill pill.

You know what the actual worst part of patch 3 is? Is that it doesn't even dent the amount of problems this game has.

Half the stuff in the game doesn't even work, from the infamous armor glitch that may be intentional but makes no sense if it is, to payback strike's upgrade never stunning taunted foes. To the broken 2 handed detonations that they're just now fixing. To immolate being listed as a eldrich detonator, but not actually being one. To Shadow Strike not working with Knife in the Shadows. To all the random passives that just don't do anything, from gathering storm to deathblows upgrade taking weird amounts of stamina. All the ability upgrade rings that either do nothing, or require another, identical ring, to get the original effect. To all the random stuff that's supposed to drop from enemies and loot containers, but is just bugged out or in some cases won't actually drop.

Spoiler

You know what's worse than making a loot system based on RNG? Half of the stuff not dropping. So I can farm for hours, waste hours of my time trying to get an item I had no way of ever getting.

It's hilarious that I, along with other people had played through the game multiple times before hearing banter. I had to look up on youtube the audio for all the banter because I couldn't hear any of it. I owned the goddamn game and I had to go to a third party site to experience content that I bought. WHAT?

In the first patch we saw a nerf to the knight enchanter specialization. But the fire flask + Thousand Cuts glitch which is unabashedly gamebreaking still exists. Not to mention the fact that Thousand Cuts won't take focus if the final hit doesn't go off, meaning as long as I kill all the enemies with Thousand Cuts before 2/3's of it is through (quite possible on nightmare with t3 gear and pincushion) it won't take stamina.

Not to mention all the bugged masterworks like the fade touched silverite chain lightning effects.

I mean, all this stuff just doesn't work in single player, so exasperatedly I turned to multiplayer hoping it would be better. Long story short it wasn't, and while single player had issues, it paled in comparison to the amount of hoops I had to jump through to even complete matches in multiplayer. And so when the patch comes out that suppossedly fixes these issues, I look forward to playing it. What do you know, 3 matches in and....

Spoiler

So you'll forgive me if I'm frustrated and angry about a game I preordered has never performed as it should have.

But you have the audacity to make a post accusing the community of wrongdoing. I'm sorry, is it community's game that doesn't work how it should?  I guess all this is my fault. I should have known better than to cause all these problems.

But to answer your question, I'm sticking around because I firmly believe this game can be more than what it is.

DAMP will never be as good as ME3MP.  I don't think this is even debatable.

..but yeah.. DAMP is still pretty good with all its flaws.  I'm here because I know it will get better.
