Before I start need to say I play on a PS4 as a FYI.

I know this is going to sound absolutely crazy and I am not quite sure how to put it in words but I will try.

Today I started my ninth run of DA-I. I have played mostly as Elven Mages so far but one run as a Qunari Warrior and one as a Elven Rogue. I have always REALLY preferred playing as a Mage since DA-O. I just have.

Up until this point however, I have been really disappointed with the power level of Mages in DA-I esp after playing as both a Warrior and Rogue. I have also been frustrated with a few bugs here and there and really how weak I feel as a Mage esp in the beginning.

That was until today for some reason. I finally decided I would play my “canon” Inquisitor. I could tell right from the beginning something was different for the better. First, the treasure drops I was finding in the beginning were so much better than any of my other run throughs and I swear my Mage is doing way more damage than she has before. (Yes I am playing on the same difficulty.)

And then…on none of my previous runs I have been able to complete the first requisition in the Hinterlands because the locks would not drop . For some reason today I finished without even leaving the Cross Roads! Then the loot coming up on just the first few hours is so much better. I have already (just a few hours in) have picked up  Tier 2 schematics for a staff and Mage armour. And two really powerful staffs have dropped already. I swear it’s like I am playing a different game.

But it’s the feel of it that has made the biggest difference. I really can’t explain it other than to say now it feels like a Mage should feel. Like Hawke or HoF did. I know its not my imagination because it’s been a real struggle at first cuz I have always felt so underpowered this early in the game. But WOW it’s so different now.

And I am also all of sudden getting new companion banter (while out on quests) that wasn’t there before. This is my ninth time through I would have remembered any of from before.

I really hope it keeps up because it just is so much nicer and feels so much more like a DA game now.

I am not crazy I promise!

To be honest you sound a bit suffering a mental crack. Just saying.

Anyway, take care, friend and be well.

First of all, get better soon!

Enjoy the RNG while it likes you. :)

Mine is just behaving weirdly. Spent two hours in the western approach last night. Made sure a few venatori had a bad day, collected some stuff for the dragon researcher. Loot was poor, party banter happened maybe once every half hour.

Only the manuscript from the still ruins missing. Went in, and... four banters in about as many minutes, half of the chests had t3 schematics. Went back outside...and everything was back to normal.

Hey now...

I'm an arse and even I know that's going a bit far.

If she likes the game, then so be it? Just the same as you have every right to hate the game?

Oh, and would you be more sympathetic to her accident if she hated the game, I wonder? ;)

Anyway, OP. Glad your game is working well.. I've had the opposite effect, unfortunately. It is rather strange, how in some PTs things work fine then in others... not so much.

Im just doing some gender equality here dude.

I'm on PS4 and I've not noticed any improvement in loot drops.  Maybe when patch three comes out.  I'm getting really sick of farming and getting nothing but dagger/two-handed schematics.

Anyway, I'm on my sixth elven mage playthrough.  Oh dear  ;)  It's not like I haven't tried others.  I even managed 40 hrs of an Elven archer before losing interest.  I just feel so much more a part of the story, same as with a mage Hawke in DA2.

The random schematic/loot drops can get quite annoying. At least the dog in Hissing Wastes has T3s.

Wait, so the changes made in the most recent patch got rid of the fetch quests and boring trudging through empty areas and added in arcs for more of the companions and made the ending not suck?

I don't believe I addressed those issues in my OP did I? However, the fetch quests don't bother me because if I don't want to do them I don't. I think in the game only  the one in the Hissing Waste is probably worth the time but usually I don't do the others. I used to really hate the shards but I have come up with a way that they don't bother me so much now tho I rarely bother with all of them.

The ending does seem rushed and bit anti-climatic but its a relatively small part of the game and not such a big deal. I don't know but I get the sense that a DLC will add a nice chunk of story on at the end.

TBO honest, I don't think the story was really about Cory, I think the whole thing was a set up for dealing with Solas/Flemeth at a later time. Cory was never the real threat as it was shown in DA-2 he could be dealt with with a little work. The whole Solas/Flemeth thing is the real issue and that shoe has not fallen yet.
