Notice how much more PC the monsters are?
Brood mothers were gross but at least they were compelling... there are no compelling, hideous, and gross monsters in DAI... maybe the thing in the fade, but one's not enough.
Darkspawn have gone from hideous monsters to tiny soldier variations.
Desire demons are just staples of the series... inclusive is fine, but the devs seem too quick to throw away the past of dragon age, like with the new qunari. The arishok was a scary dude, there's no way to replicate his look in the character creator, the eyes, the look aren't even an option.
Everyone is so bloody pretty.
I'm going to use the word "Gritty" here, as much as I hate it. DAO and DAI were more gritty and scary in their designs and content, guys hanging in the kocori wilds, the murder knife, the dragon age style blood splatter (which added so much to conversations, i really miss it, it was a bioware staple they sadly removed). Inquisition is so much more... I don't know, sanitary and light.
I miss desire demons and brood mothers. Bioware used to be a lot darker. Grittier is a better word. Creepier.

We already have a thread about that in the Spoilers section. It's still active and going if you are interested.

If a desire demon is meant to represent what one finds attractive, then I'm pretty sure you wouldn't like the way mine would look.

There is a desire demon (sorry, choice spirit), and there was only one hideous, gross, compelling broodmother in DA:O.

I want some attractive male desire demons!
I don't think the darkspawn used to look any worse in origins than in the other games...they've always seemed like generic orc monsters to me. And I'm not sure why broodmothers would be around when we're not fighting the blight...

There were 2 Broodmothers if you count DAO Awakening.

The Mother was a little bit different in the looks, riiiight?

Actually, there were 5, if we are counting DA: A. In Sigrun's recruitment quest (the dwarven ruins), there are three Broodmothers in a pit that crush by releasing giant chains around the room.

I definitely miss Desire Demons, really ticked off that they aren't in the game besides the one in a certain location.

I'm sure they'll be back. And I'm 110% certain that Bioware didn't skip them in this game out of "inclusivity." Besides, RE broodmothers - if darkspawn aren't the focus and we're staying out of the deep roads, it's not necessarily surprising that we don't see any broodmothers. We fought more darkspawn in DA2 than in DAI.
They did drop the ball fast and hard on the CC though, particularly with qunari.

Actually there were 3 or more at Kal'Hirol, that the mother was using to create her army.
Anyway, unless we're playing a Warden, there's not much reason for us to encounter broodmothers, since they're supposed to be well-guarded by darkspawn and are typically very far into the Deep Roads.

I wonder what people would say if Bioware only had male desire demons in the next game
I'd be pleased, but I'm willing to bet a lot of people wouldn't be XD
It is curious that they didn't include them though, given that the Fade Rifts were spilling out demons. I did think the Fear demons looked kinda cool. What made the Broodmothers work so well as a monster was how creepy they were. They just looked....wrong. I think it's a look most effectively utilized when used sparingly. That being said, I'm all for Bioware including more creepy elements. I get so frustrated with the stupidity of protagonists in some of the newer horror games. Like really, Miles Upshur, you're going back for your video cam and not getting out of the murder asylum? Smart. Really smart. Letting people respond in their own way to the flight/fight reaction Bioware could illicit could be really cool, though very different from any of their past focuses...

Desire Demons were not dark, frankly I enjoy seeing them each time ![]()
Broodmothers NEVER leave the Deep Roads plus no Blight so no major Darkspawn varients would be showing up

And I maintain that the concept behind Red Templar Horrors, Behemoths, etc., men deformed with red lyrium crystals protruding out of their body, is pretty disturbing.

When/if we go back to the deep roads I'm sure we'll run into broodmothers again, but there was really no reason in Inquisitions storyline to be battling darskpawn that deep into their territory that we would encounter Broodmothers, so that makes sense.

I don't get how any of the new monsters are pretty. If anything, the newcomers look freakier. Of course, nothing is ever scary, but they're no less hideous than the old stuff. The horrors and despair demons are all pretty fugly, and make some pretty nasty sounds.

Why one thing is not enough, when the brood mothers are also one thing and it appears sufficient for you?Brood mothers were gross but at least they were compelling... there are no compelling, hideous, and gross monsters in DAI... maybe the thing in the fade, but one's not enough.

Origins wasn't that "dark". It was pretty much just fantasy ripped off from all the usual sources with slight details changed. Wow, Gaider really went out on a limb by making the dwarves have North American accents!
