I miss desire demons and brood mothers. Bioware used to be a lot darker. Grittier is a better word. Creepier.

I miss having dark creepy storylines, that's for sure. I felt ripped off when the desire demon didn't even show his form. It would have been interesting to see one that chose a male form like he did.

It would have been nice to see female ones too in the new engine, I'd bet they looked awesome.

Yeah, a male desire demon would have awesome potential for a unique form. Nope. Stupid rehashed rift demons.

And nothing of value to tempt the player.

Uhh.. she's not?

Oops.

Well, to me she's not... I'm not asking the internet, because the results tend to be horrifying...

And not in a cool, dark and gritty way.

Don't forget, Bioware also removed Brothels from the game.

Regarding Brothels,

I've always roleplayed characters that are against the solicitation of prostitution. However, that doesn't mean you should remove the brothel from the game. Bioware should've added a Brothel in Inquisition, but then give you a quest that lets you shut down the brothel based upon how poorly the women are treated or something. Let the player decide if they want to solicit prositution or be against it and shut the place down. Choices make a great RPG, not just taking something like a brothel out of the game.

Yeah it's a little weird to me that bioware has become anti-sexworker. Like "we'll show nudity but don't you DARE pay for it or someone might be offended".

And brood mothers an desire demons being absent, maybe they feel they're too ugly or the fact they're evil females who aren't beautiful sends a horrifying message?

Pity because both were unique in the world of fantasy, I'd love to see a brood mother on the new engine. They're gross and monsterous and really showcase why the darkspawn are a threat.

Desire demons meanwhile were by far the most intersting, and while Ishmael could have been an awesome opportunity to showcase the male version as an impressive unique demon, they just recycled basic monsters and made him look like some guy... Totally disappointing.

In terms of 'gritiness' the thing I disliked most was how our character was forced to be all sweetness and light. It would have been nice to offer us the possibility of being a darker character.

Agreed. I don't need cartoony evil, but cold and cruel should be possible at the very least.

Or at least character with personality. I wanted my Inky to have some proper temper tantrums (like Hawke could have), or be really snarky, or be kind if I chose to. Now, no matter what of the 3 choices you take, it is the same. Luke-warm Inky, unicorn lurking over his/her shoulder. I beheaded one guy just because I could, for once Inky did something nasty. It almost felt like he is a human being.

I think DAI has enough creepy stuff to be honest, the problem is more how they are used or portrayed in the game. What comes out of the Rifts would be much creepier if they wasn't Ghostbusters Glow in the Dark Ghost themed. The antagonist looks creepy enough, the very few times you see him, but he never actually DOES anything creepy so it fails there.

I do agree that there is SOME creepy / disturbing stuff in DA:I, but IMO because the areas are so big and empty, and there's so much grinding and fetching to do, that the impact of these encounters is lost.

It also doesn't help that there is a serious lack of cut scenes and pretty much no introduction to any of the minor bosses (the elvish temple springs to mind). One of the things that really engaged me with Origins was the occasional cut-away to see what Logain was up to - it made the story feel deeper and kept the storyline fresh in my mind even when I'd spent ages mucking around in the forest or something.

IMO, Inquisition feels very sanitised and sterile - which in turn makes the monsters and villains feel less significant and there is no emotional or visceral impact. It certainly didn't deserve the 18 rating it was given here in the UK!

I like corypheus, but he was underused. And yeah the rifts demons weren't scary, but they could have been. I sort go wish the rifts had an impact on the areas around them, made them dark and twisted.

At least then closing them would matter in the actual game. Fog, twisted trees, insane animals etc.

Yeah I fought a few bosses and didn't even know they were bosses... Which for a company that was so cinematic and told such complicated stories, is a huge mediocre backpeddle.
