Why was Jack a LI only for Male Sheps?

Just out of curiosity did any devs ever comment on why she wasn't one of the potential LIs for Fem Shep in ME2? It never affected me either way (Male Shep & Liara is my series canon), but I always wondered why she wasn't a LI for Fem Shep, considering she talks about having had lovers from both sexes.

Usually I'm not sympathetic when fans gripe about their favorite characters not being LIs, but I think Jack might be the one exception.

Having lovers from both sexes is one thing, romancing them is another. Casual sex might've been an option but not a full-fledged romance arc. Still, I'm more than happy with her current depiction as she is my canon Shepard's love interest :)

I honestly don't know. Maybe they didn't want to write more dialogue for Jack? Maybe it was cut? Maybe the voice actress refused? Maybe Jack just isn't into Femshep for some reason?

We'd probably have to ask the devs to answer this question.

I'm personally glad she didn't. I really dislike this new thing where every npc must be bisexual, just to please a specific crowd.

I seconded this. I appreciate Bioware for trying to be inclusive for different types of people but when I'm left out as a heterosexual it becomes too much. They should still respect that the vast majority of people are actually straight and I think having too many bisexual romances (for programming convenience and crowd-pleasing) is just as jarring for me - a straight guy - as it is for a homosexual person, that this character, they want to romance to make their story more personal, is actually not really exclusive to them.

By all means, keep options for straights gays and bisexuals but that number with Kaidan in ME3 was an alienating experience for any straight male who just wanted to befriend him -- not get in his pants. So I'm glad Jack went one way and that it didn't suddenly change in ME3.

Because jack can only be cured of her traumatic past of abuse and exploitation by the curing powers of a penis.

I don't get how this is a new thing when only one game has ever done this, and was not repeated in its sequel. In any case, Mass Effect has been very far removed from this "problem", so Jack being bi wouldn't exactly create some kind of inclusiveness crisis that people seem to have with Dragon Age 2.

But even in her current form she already is bisexual (or at least bi-curious/willing to sleep with other women). Making her romanceable by Femshep wouldn't change anything about her sexual orientation at all. Just to clarify, I think it's fine that she doesn't like Femshep romantically. Not everybody needs to drool over every possible Shepard but your arguments while understandabel and valid  in case of Kaidan and DA2 fall competely flat with Jack.

But the thing with bisexuals is that they please every crowd.

I remember that, it freaked me out a bit when I found out where the game was going with it. I was thinking I've made a pretty good friend here in Kaiden, then suddenly I have to choose a romantic option or insult the guy, it was really jarring. Is it not possible in a Bioware game to just have a good friend? I think the closest would be Garrus, I don't remember ever getting a 'flirt' type option when talking to him, and shooting bottles on the Citadel was a nice touch.

Tvtropes says that all female LIs were available to both genders. I even remember seeing a video on youtube that had audio examples of that. More concretely, FemShep talking to Liara after LotSB and mentioning how important Jack/Miranda/Tali is to her. Seemed legit.

Why it was scrubbed is anybodies guess. Fear of controversy would be my guess.

Actually, I'm pretty sure if you don't buy him the bottle while he's in the hospital he won't flirt with you or ask to be in a relationship. The conversation on the Citadel will go differently and Shep will say that Kaidan is like a brother.

Sorry, Jack is straight.  Not every character has to pander to the LGBT crowd.  Oh, and in the words of Jack herself....

I think her previous experience with bisexual flirtation may have REALLY soured her on the proposition.  Jack was NOT happy with how the couple manipulated her.  I think it's perfectly understandable that the bi-curious has run its course.

Maybe it was something similar to what they did in ME1, to work around a bug, they had both Meer and Hale recording audio for the Romance Scenes for MaleShep/Kaidan and FemShep/Ashley...

But then, I agree with Han, because even in her dialogue she says: "If you're talking about a girlfriend or a boyfriend, no"

Wondered that myself, but i supouse her creator envisioned her as (mostly)straight. She's impulsive so any same sex relationships she had maby was more beacuse "why the **** not". Or maby they just didn't have time to record any extra dialogoue.

It would've fit though.

I was more bummed that Ashely didn't sudently turn bi when Kaidan did, belive it or not there are those of us that didn't hate her guts, there are dozens of us i tell i you! Dozens!

I would have loved to see this.

A romance between Jack and Femshep? Just imagining it has me sweating. Goddamn.

Also, LOL@the people not wanting more bi characters. You do know that a person can discover later on in life that they like people of the same sex as them? It doesn't even have to a general attraction to people of the same sex, it could just be that one person that they're willing to switch teams for.

Also, for the men among you, why wouldn't want more F/F relationships? The hell is wrong with you?  :o

But the thing with bisexuals is that they please every crowd.

Damn right

All the evidence I need that she should have been an option for both.

Because females who are attracted to other females don't tend to want to go after people like me.  ie men.  There tends to be a conflict there.  Also, bisexuals don't appease each side.  It's a cop out.  Why can't heterosexuals have their own identity?

In real life, did every people you ever loved loved you back? Probably not. It's the same in ME. Not every character has to be in love with Shep or sexually attracted to Shep.

Early BSN was really not a nice place to be for LGBT people and their supporters.

Jeez that thread is a car crash. I wonder if some of the posters (now they have hopefully hit the legal age to buy the game) ever go back and read what they have written.

Jack has slept with at least one woman. She mentions it in dialogue.

Of course that doesn't necessarily mean she's still into women. Maybe it was a phase. Maybe Fem Shep just isn't her type. But I just always thought it odd that a character who is an LI, and was at least bi-curious at one point, and possibly is bisexual, can't even be flirted with by Fem Shep.

And I don't even play as Fem Shep.
