I've been trying to get lockers and doors open for quite a while now, and the blue target only flashes on for half a second, does anyway know of a fix for this, or what could cause a problem like this?

I'm having the same damn problem it's really annoying. Have yet to figure out what might be causing it or any way to fix it...would be nice if these games actually got tested before release so basic functions like this would not be broken. Would also be nice to get soem kind of response from tech, but I'm sure they're hiding in their cubbies over this utter failure of a release. =(

No information offered, none received.  Simple exchange there.

This sounds like a framerate issue.  The problem is likely that your GPU isn't capable of producing better than about 12 fps at whatever resolution you're using to play.  Below that rate you'll see the "flickering" or non-existent highlight cursor for interactive objects.  This is really more of a design decision than a "bug," as the game just assumes a certain level of GPU capability.  The best workaround is to lower your resolution to improve your framerate.  There's also the tactic of pressing "esc" to go to the Mission Computer screen and then pressing "esc" again to exit, which might cause the interactive cursor to flash on for a fraction of a second.  If you time it right you can usually activate items this way, as coming out of the MC screen usually raises your framerate briefly.  It's a nuisance but it should work on a GPU that meets at least the minimum specs for the game.

On pages 7 and 8 of this thread you can read some messages from a programmer at BioWare discussing this issue:

Here is one of those quotes for this thread:

I just want to address some of the complaints also. Its not that we don't care about this bug. We just don't know what's wrong yet.

My guess is that your framerate is too low, or there is something wrong with your graphics driver. I can't get into specifics, but the game relies on the graphics card to determine if something was "visible recently". If your frame rate is low enough, then the game will never think something is "visible recently".

Please let me know anything relevant about your graphics card or graphics settings, including the framerate if possible. If the game is under 10 FPS, it may cause problems.

Ok so I think for some of you the problem is the low framerate. For now, the best solution is for you to get a faster framerate. You can get this by reducing your resolution. We made a technical decision that the game would rely on the framerate being at least a certain level.

I apologize because I know you're great fans, and you want to see the game in full glory even though your machine isn't the fastest. But at the same time, we had to have technical limitations somewhere.

From the sound of this, the official minimum video cards may have been close to being another Pie in the Sky suggestion (X1600 Pro).
