DAI didn't take enough from Skyrim, and yes. It would be nice to have the freedom that you have in Skyrim... I can punch any NPC that I want... even kill them. In DA:I you don't have that option.

You really shouldn't have the freedom to just punch and kill everyone in DA:I, not unless the game also has meaningful consequences to go along with them. Like, I should not be able to just walk into Cullen's chambers and beat the living sh** out of him for no reason, not unless the writers create a new path that reflects what I've done. If he just complains and things go like normal, then the option was pointless.

I really like Bethesda's games a lot, but I'm ok with them having their thing and Bioware having their own thing.

The type of story Bioware likes to tell has been pretty set in stone for more than a decade. They make games about exceptional individuals on a specific path through a broadly unchangeable narrative -  that sort of story would suffer in that sort of setting.  As it is, there are plenty of brittle witcher fans around here who seem to think that the stories suffer as is without a set protagonist.

What? Nuts to those people. I'd take a customizable protagonist over a set one any day of the week.

I don't understand it either.

Apart from having what I would consider the most awful gameplay and control scheme I've ever encountered in a game, the main impediment to my enjoyment of the Witcher is having no choice but to play as Geralt.

DAI MP is cancer of this game. It was terrible. In order for me to be play as a mage I had to become an Elf. Didn't like that too much.

Maybe playing the little guy fighting the other people's fight isn't as much fun as you think it'd be, then. Just a thought.

The meaningful consequences doesn't require much though. If you do the crime you must do the time. If I walk into Cullens chambers and started beating the crap outta him I can either fight him to the death (which resulted in everyone ganging up on me) or I can surrender (Cullen would engage in dialogue asking me to surrender), and be taken to jail... Just like Skyrim.

In American Army if you shoot and kill your officer you get teleported to prison

Spoiler

in which you must start a new game or go back to a previously saved game.

As a mage only player if I commit a serious crime (Murder using magic), and I get caught I would be teleported to a prison chamber surrounded by Templars, as I'm shackled down on a table, and then be made tranquil. After the ritual is completed I would be ported to Josephine's office. I would be given simple instructions to give paperwork to other people. Instead of leading the inquisition I would live the rest of my life as a servant tranquil.

Oh I like the idea of a bounty.... I can pay my way out.

That's why we separate open-world-rpg from story-driven-rpg...one let´s you craft the story around your character, the other let's you craft your character around the story...

GTA V is far better than any of the DA series however I don't think it reaches the heights of any of Bioware's best work.  :)

I love GTA V and it's a lot of fun, but I like it for far different reasons than I do any DA game. For one, I'm not getting into GTA for any kind of story, and while V's various tales are much funnier and a bit more memorable to me than the previous lot, when it comes right down to it, I play it as a time sink for lulz more than anything else. Like seeing how much mayhem I can do, like driving into the airport, getting my stars up, and hijacking one of the jets on the tarmac before I get killed. At the end of the day, I'd always take a Dragon Age game over any GTA.

Inquisition simply wasn't fun. I had a lot more success role-playing as Michael, Trevor, or Franklin than I did this boring Inquisitor going around fetching 30,000 herbs so he can be a Reaver. Fun, Immersion, Storytelling, Writing... they all add up to create something special and DAI is lacking in all of those areas.

As for the previous two DA games... they're alright. Lacking in the fun but good storytelling and writing. The pacing is good and they immerse you in the world and characters. Hard to get immersed in some MMO-esque quest-giver standing still and offering to "join you" if you find 7 types of plants etc.

I don't see that. Geralt is a fixed guy but he's basically a blank page for me to build from. Being to pick my brow depth and nose bridge width aren't that important to me. Skyrim has a lot more customization but that character means nothing in the world to me. Geralt I can own a lot more than - and the combat system in TW2 was 9 kinds of suck you are correct BTW.

I haven't even gotten to the second game. I like starting at the beginning.

I heard that the second one's gameplay was better. Eesh.

Like why don't your scouting camps help you when you're being attacked? It's like they're just sitting there waiting for you to die :P

I usually take my crew to a camp when I am logging out for the night and somewhere other than Skyhold.  Yesterday I logged in and there were bandits in the camp.  Standing right next to my Inquisitor.  :D

It was totally a trap your scouts set for your Inquisitor.

wait?....... what!? why would you even want DA to be compared to GTA? BioWare is not going to do that, it's not their genre type and that would completely kill off DA IMO to what DA was meant to be. A story rpg type game, not a free roam and beat up random npcs. I'm ok with say a little free roam like Dragon Age Inquisition but I don't want it to be like Skyrim, I want it to be it's own thing not copying other games. the lore and story is what gets me interested in BioWare games and I hope for it to keep continuing.

Amen to that. If I wanted to play in a sandbox with a flimsy plot I would play Skyrim. I play Bioware games for an epic adventure tale filled with interesting characters and moral dilemmas. Both formats have their place, but Bioware should do what they are good at and leave the sandbox to Bethesda.

Or just play both games. One game doing something doesn't mean another has to start doing it as well or that one should try to be more like the other. Let Dragon Age keep doing its own thing.

I think that encounter is scripted. I've already played multiple times and each time the dragon and giant are fighting on the coast. The dragon always wins if you leave them to go at it and it flies off (can't fight it there apparently), but I intervene to get the XP from finishing off the giant.

I let the dragon kill the giant & I still got 500 xp from watching it as well as a codex entry.

I literally just stood there for 5 minutes watching them fight & did absolutely nothing to interrupt them & I got 500 xp. Save it before you try what I did in case it doesn't work for you. But I swear it happened just like that!

DA2 was not a bad game as most people say it is. It's actually a pretty good game considering the fact that I can make unethical decisions. The game does need some improvements thought.... perhaps Bioware should of been focusing on improving DA2 instead of making a whole new game... would be nice.

This is why I love DA2.... you wont see it in DAI.

Dude, dragon age is about story, characters, skyrim has neither... if you want to play skyrim, you should play skyrim. Why take a series that did something different and try to turn in into a series that already exists elsewhere?

I want tough decisions, great storylines, cut scenes and solid writing. Now, DAI can improve, but I certainly don't want it to be like skyrim. I have skyrim to play skyrim.

I would like to have the freedom walk up to a character like Cullen, and start punching him in the face... or going up to Mother Giselle, as a Qun worshiping Qunari, and start hitting on her too.

This is exactly the reason I play DA games is to avoid the asinine, immature, meat-headed, might make right COMPLETE CRAP that makes up games like GTA.

Does it make you feel like a big tough man hitting a woman? Esp a peaceful woman like Mother Giselle? What classy guy...I bet your mum is proud.

I suggest you stop playing DA games and try not to scrape your knuckles while you stumble back into you cave.
