Good point and also I doubt they would let you kill off a character in an either/or way
They've done it before. Mass Effect 1 had you have to choose between Ashley or Kaidan.

Hawke is a horrible character that is basically a cookie cutter insult to fans who enjoy actually making a character of their own with a depth personify beyond "a" "b" or "c".
Stroud is better and hawke does not live in any of my playthroughs.
It seems a fitting end too.
Actually it would have been interesting if it was the warden or hawke.
Calm down, satan.

True, but ME is a more streamlined story than DA, and on the DA side it seems like they want to keep people around more. And to avoid the complaints that they've already had from people who had Leliana die in DAO, or had Anders die in Awakenings.
I wonder how it plays out if you make Hawke and Varric rivals.
No different. Varric is still sad, the story changes but that's about it.
Alistair's king in my game.
Stroud always gets left behind. Never liked him anyway.
I liked Alistair well enough in Origins, but in Inquisition, his letters as king made me gag. Also found him equally as intolerable as Hawke's Warden contact. If it comes down to preference, I am much more inclined to Hawke than Al.
In-Character: Alistair
Out of Character: Alistair
Sorry Hawke, but your story and importance ended the moment the Inquisitor put a stop to the Mage-Templar War.
I would always save Alistair.
I made the Alistair vs. Hawke choice a couple times now, and I always leave Hawke behind to play whack-a-spider. To be honest, I don't really care if Hawke lives or dies, but it's possible (s)he survived. The text did say "Hawke will likely die", so there's always a chance that Hawke or Stroud/Alistair/Loghain survived... or at the very least exist the same way Justinia did after she died in the Fade (whether as a spirit taking their form or their soul in limbo).
I did get the feels when Hawke said "Safe harbors, Isabela", though. And Varric's story/reaction was touching.
If you don't want to exile the Wardens, then sparing Alistair would make more sense - would you rather leave what's left of the order with a senior Warden, veteran of thr Blight etc, or an outsider with somewhat antagonistic attitude towards the Wardens? Though AFAIK, it doesn't actually make any difference in the game itself, so leave whoever you like the least, I guess. We don't actually see them die, though, so they might as well make a comeback somehow. Since Bioware could bring Leliana and Anders back from the dead, I say anything is possible.
Personally, I was surprised by how unattached I felt to my Hawke. Saving Alistair over her was a no-brainer for me, though I felt really bad for Varric, Fenris and Carver ![]()
Well my qunari mage left Hawke over Alistair.......cept for sad!Varric, nothing really changed.........I mean no one cares.......
Sure, Varric writes to everyone, but we never see the ramifications................
Making Alistair a Warden was such a bad choice , he reacted like a smiley . Saving Hawke was right..since I dont care about the warden anyway and they all end up kicked out....
I dunno the way the dialogue wheel worded it seemed like blatant foreshadowing "they're probably not dead", and I don't see any other reason to word it like that if they intended to keep whoever stays behind dead. I had Loghain as my warden, and Alistair as king, but here is my reasoning for leaving Hawke.
I think my Hawke would stay even if I told her not to, so I let her stay. Plus it ties in nicely with Flemeth's visions. Loghain ironically is the hero the Grey Wardens need too. It works out. Sad Varric is sad, but man I think that scene is awesomely sad. I dunno I thought Inquisition needed more scars, and this was an excellent "scar" to add to the story of my Inquisition.
But does anybody know if being in the Fade is permanent or if they die?
Had I known Hawke would be worthless throughout DAI and then disappear I would've saved Alistair. Atleast he's the highest ranking GW left
Maybe Hawke's buddy Faynriel will be able to help him out in the Fade.I'm going to hope that they survived. But we don't know.
That whole sequence is so bizarre. What happens to the spider demon? Why do we say this is the best we can do "for now" and then never go back? What did the inquisitor do that "denied" the demon army.
Personally, I suspect a DLC.
