I love Loghain, so it was a really horrible decision to try to pick between him and Hawke. 

 

The only thing that stopped me from ultimately picking Hawke in the Fade was Fenris.

 

Couldn't do that to the poor guy... "Nothing could be worse than the thought of living without you."

First playthrough: chose Hawke over Stroud. Sorry for him, but I saw him just once in Kirkwall, no need to save him.

Second playthrough: I changed my canon Keep choices, having Loghain instead of Stroud. I saved Hawke again, I felt this way Loghain could find redemption.

In all my DA:O games I've completed, Loghain had to die. I couldn't even bring myself to let him "alive" by changing the events in the Keep.

 

But besides my personal dislike I agree: This would be some kind of redemption for him.

That would be like sacrificing Shepard in Mass Effect.
After being Hawke for a whole game, I can't see him die in the middle of the next game. Had to be more of a reason for Hawke to be around.

been playing DA2 again and cant help feeling hawke has been screwed over by inquisition , the guy has started a penniless refugee , he lost his family in gruesome ways , yet over 10 years was it ? he kept his sense of humour and worked his way up to become the champion of Kirkwall , the whole game was building him up to something , yet after doing all the donkey work some nobody from nowhere stumbles into a room says whats going on here and gets plopped out of the rift and steals hawkes thunder and his place as inquisitor , no wonder hawke has turned all bitter and humourless when he does eventually get a look in , probably thinking is this bugger gonna leave me to rot in the fade .

For Stroud?  There should never be a reason to leave Hawke behind.  But for Loghain, or Alistair?  It starts getting a little tougher for characters we actually developed an attachment too.

Until now I always decided to leave the warden Stroud behind and save Hawke.

 

After returning to Skyhold, Hawke says something like

"...going to Weisshaupt and reporting..."

 

In my last game I wanted to see a difference and left Hawke behind. What did Stroud tell me?

"...going to Weisshaupt and reporting..."

 

In one of the war room missions in Orlais the remaining wardens died, too, although the last "high ranking officer" Stroud was still ..somewhere.

 

Now I ask, why we should let our Hawke (probably) die?

 

As far as I understood the lore, in Weisshaupt a yet unknown leader of the wardens is in charge. What will be the GREAT difference, when Stroud reports or Hawke reports? Shouldn't the lead staff be able to rebuild the wardens even if there is no "last high ranking officer"?

 

Even under RP-aspects I see no reason to let Hawke die. Did I interpret the lore falsely and / or miss something?

His consciousness is essentially being uploaded into the thingamajig that controls the Reapers, so in one sense he is dead, but as far as his being is concerned, he's still alive. Note that he was synthetic to an extent himself and undoubtedly would've had to have brain implants of some sort to repair the damaged nerves from his death during the Collector Attack - especially with the loss of oxygen and exposure, etc.
