I was going to deal with it, but considering the fact that I started reloading my game 3 hours ago, at around 7:06 EST in order to find Dalish Warrior Armor(I've not just been playing the game, I'm doing some grading as well), I think I have a right to complain.

I'd like my character to look like a Dalish Elf while going through at least some of the game.

However, due to this game design, it is impossible.

Thanks, guys.

Yes it sucks.

It would have been better if all schematics had set locations you could get them. It doesn't make sense to have an loot system based on heavy rng if it's not a subscription service. You already have my money, please don't elongate my playthroughs by denying me gear unless I reset a chest 1000 times.

None of this stuff flows into a new game + which means you just have to do it all over again if you want to test endgame gear on a different class.

This is the main reason I'm not replaying the story mode right now. I just don't want to put up with the gear bs.

So, I've just blown away all the gold I've managed to amass by buying every single Tier 2 armor schematic I could from Val Royeux and the Dalish merchant.

The RNG system is giving me valuables(junk) loot and grey items now.

I don't understand.

Right now, all I want to do is stop playing the game.  This is completely ruining the experience.

You have such a great thing here, and you've managed to ruin it by being stingy about cosmetics.  My mind is completely blown.  It's like opening a burger stand that sells amazing, fresh farm to table burgers, only you don't offer your customers any condiments whatsoever.

Like, no offense, but what is wrong with whoever designed this?

Don't get me wrong, but this is just so dumb that I can't imagine what the thought process behind this is.  I really like this game.  I really do.  Otherwise I wouldn't be sinking the amount of time I am trying to get this armor for my character.  It's really obvious that a huge amount of effort went into this game, but my analogy stands...

It's one thing to play a mediocre game and to run into a problem like this.  It's a whole other problem to be playing a game that's amazing overall, only for my experience to be marred by something that just seems so unreasonable.

I really HATE this RNG loot system.

Same here. To be honest, I wish they dropped money and more materials instead, but at the same time some people don't like crafting at all. I'm a craft enthusiast.

Love crafting myself.

I've learned not hoard. I sell everything I don't need, even some materials and Josephine gets me alot of gold. I have 48000 Gold accumulated in this playthrough.

I do agree the RNG is annoying though. I've gotten 3 of the same rare swords in one game.

There's one thing I wish the advisers would do when you're idle or away from the console and it's to collect gold and materials while you aren't playing the game and they got nothing else to do. It would be so much more helpful than having to micro manage everything and it would also help us crafting items faster without fearing that we're out of money. Some sort of toggle system to plan their priorities in advance.

I wonder when it'll be time for the "lol you guys I did this on t2 crafted gear at level 17, beat all 10 dragons and the game, wtf you want to craft for?" guys to show up?

I actually do that with Josephine. I minimize the game and click it back on when the time is up. I'd LOVE a toggle system. :D

I'm done.

It's 11:57pm EST at the moment.  I've been at it since around 7.

This game isn't fun or worth the effort anymore.

You guys just lost another future customer.

I love crafting gear. Cass, looks amazing in the White Dragon's Scale Battle Master armor I forged.

Yeah, the grinding required for your characters to actually look somewhat nice and at the same time have useful gear is absolutely ridiculous, none of this was an issue in previous games, you either was able to get some really cool looking armor by looting it or just donwloaded some mods. I like the crafting system here, matching the various materials is actually fun in the late game, but that RNG luck required to get some of them or enough of them, let alone to get some of the T3 patterns... I don't want to bring up the fixed duping glitch in this topic, but it just goes hand in hand with the god-damned RNG in the way, that for my next potential playthrough I am either forced to get a 3rd party program or don't give a flying sh*t about my characters' hideous crappy appearance or spend hours on farming in a SP game (lol) or just don't play the game ever again. I really love BioWare and their games, but some of the design choices in DAI just boggle my mind. And though I appreciate the amount of work that went into this game, I am sometimes more pissed than I have ever been playing any of their other games.

And though I appreciate the amount of work that went into this game, I am sometimes more pissed than I have ever been playing any of their other games.

I had to learn how to use a third party program to obtain the dalish schematic, and I've finally managed to do it.

Let me put it this way:  I completely understand why a developer would want to make it hard for players to find a piece of gear.

1) It adds to the sense of reward when you finally do obtain that piece of gear.

2) It gives the player something to go after.

3) If it's meant to be rare in the game lore, it should be rare!

But here's the problem I ran into with the Dalish Warrior Armor schematic:

1) It's completely random so it's not like I know when I'm going to get it.

2) It's not some amazing armor.

3) It's not rare in the game.  Every other Dalish NPC I see is wearing warrior armor.

To top all those problems off, my inquisitor happens to be Dalish, and the RNG drop system makes my aesthetic decision dependent on luck.  To be 100% honest, I wouldn't even mind spending 5 more hours messing with the RNG in an attempt to get the drop normally.  I like the game and I can watch a tv show while I do it.

But because its RNG, I basically need to do this every single time for every single Dalish character I make.  Like, what the ****, bioware?

I mean, this is why people got pissed off about ME3.  You literally had one of the best games ever made(IMO), and it had like, the worst ending I've ever experienced in my life.  If it was a bad game with a bad ending, I mean, who cares?  If it is a bad game with bad graphics, bad story, and bad armor, I wouldn't care what armor I wear/get because I probably either want to...

A) Stop playing

or

B) Finish the game ASAP and be done with it

But what's so incredibly frustrating here is that I just want my Dalish Inquisitor in Dalish-esque armor, and it wasn't possible.  Fault me for being stubborn and refusing to let my inquisitor run around with shoes on for another minute.

Yeah, spot on how it should have been about the goal and a sense of reward, unfortunatelly this has been done very poorly in DAI in most cases (there are some positive exceptions though). If said reward was obtained after beating some sort of challenge (hard fights, puzzles, quests, etc), then I wouldn't mind to put a few hours into getting those rewards and I would feel good about beating those challenges.

Something like it was done in Hissing Wastes - long and intriguing quest chain, interesting new lore bits, beautifuly designed location that despite being huge on map felt much smaller, because it was not filled to the brink with stuff and one didn't have to stop every bloody ten seconds. Although the final reward from the final tomb fell kinda short, it stil is imo one of the best two locations in the game (together with Emprise du Lion). But generally, after runnig Cradle of Sulevin for god knows how many hours? I don't know how to describe that feeling, but any sense of reward is long gone :)

About the ME3, I don't think the ending itself would be such an issue if Casey himself hadn't said it absolutely wouldn't be A B C and our choices throughout the trilogy would matter. Which they did to some small degree, but not in the way they was expected. About the ending it was a blatant lie and that was imo the biggest problem. The community backlash was maybe a bit too much, but what BioWare did? Kept working on trying to make it better in the form of an excellent Extended Cut DLC, even through all the hate they received. This I kinda miss here, maybe they are working on something big in silent which will make the game better, but it feels to me like they don't care anymore as much as they once did about both QA and about their community.

I've noticed that if I save before certain chests, don't get what I want, then I can reload the save and a lot of the chests have different items including schematics. I found an elven warrior armor schematic that is way above all the others toward the end of one of my campaigns. Cant remember where I got it though.

You are using the practice that is called savescumming. You are making use of the point that the random number generator (RNG) will put different items in the chest upon reloading. This is different from a fixed chest which always has the same loot.

Another method that is used is that all the items in chests within a certain region are decided when you enter the region. So even if the party leaves the region and comes back the items in the chest will be the same if the party did not find all the chests.

There are reasons for using one method over another or using a combination of methods.

If the drops are truly random then no party can run to a particular chest and always find that powerful item early in the game. Since the drops are by chance. The problem is that the party could find several powerful items in a region because of the random drops and become overpowered for that region.

Some items like quest items have to be found by the party so they are in fix chests or locations.

The developer has to decide what method or methods to use.

That I believe can be used only in the open world. It also works on herbs when trying to get seeds or ore when trying to get fade touched metal masterworks. But even "better" method for farming schematics is running a dungeon (Cradle of Sulevin or Still Ruins) and always trying to leave at least one item in all the chests. When you go out and back in, all the chests that were not completely looted will respawn again with completely new items. It is boring and tedious as hell, but it is the only thing you can do when you want to get some of the best T3 schematics. Sometimes the chests will only offer you 1 schematic and nothing else and you'll have to decide if you want to loot it and not being able to loot that particular chest ever again or if you want to have more potential chests the RNG gods can fill with your desired loot.

And I must say I hate that a single player game forces you to do something like that if you care about what your party members are wearing both stat-wise and appearance-wise at the same time. It was not an issue in any other of their previosu games if I remember correctly. Even in Skyrim, the game they were inspired by this time, I absolutely didn't have to do anything like that.

You have my sympathies surprise attack!. I myself playing as a 2h dalish warrior, only want to use the sulevin blade and wear dalish warrior armor. I although don't want to play another minute as this character because I have spent 10 F@$&!?$ hours trying to get the dalish warrior armor schematic. Which there is no damn reason why my dalish warrior shouldn't have access to this armor from the very beginning.

Try wanting a sword. At least you have functional armour. It's axe, outdated weapon or bust otherwise.

Has there been any response from the devs regarding the whole random loot thing? I was hoping that they would release some sort of patch changing this, so that schematics would dropped more frequently. That or release DLC with a store that sells all the schematics, something along those lines
