I'm waiting for someone to make a Pleasant Peasant JPEG so I can screenprint a shirt.

Wow I'm a nerd.

Hmm... I don't think it would fit on a T-Shirt.

I wouldn't worry, just have the slogan:

"I have discovered a truly marvellous jpeg of Pleasant Peasant, which this T-shirt is too narrow to contain."

That will keep them guessing for a long time.

Doesn't have to be a hack or glitch. The chest tracker could be a batch system that only updates every so often. There could have been a big backlog of updates waiting and they all got applied in a short time.

I am totally fine with a free large chest. I am 250k gold in, and I only have 1 level 20 unique. There is only so much BS I can take.

I don't understand, why should the PC community get punished because one dude decided to cheap out the system? Something something players shouldn't benefit from cheating, even indirectly. Shove off, consoles had the duplication bug, (and still do to my knowledge) for an eternity. As far as I'm concerned, you're all a bunch of cheaters.

If we do get penalized because one person was stupid, well, I'll probably post some very angry threads. In which I'll use caps. Don't make me do it.

I've been enjoying the chest opening weekend community challenge. It injected some much needed positivity. Of the platforms PS4 have been progressing best, followed by XB1 and PC (360 and PS3 have a lower target and are progressing well too).

Then at around 8pm PST, PC progress leaps from 46,000 to 250,000 (goal completion) in about 5 minutes. Surely down to a hack?

I'm not blaming PC players (99.99% not involved in this) but can we conclude that it is pointless to include the PC platform in the community challenge portion of the weekend events?

I see no reason why the victory chest should be offered either.

This is not the world's most important issue and I'm not encouraging a platform war on this thread, but why set a challenge for the PC platform if that challenge is pointless?

Alot of BSN updates every 180mins.. And this spike happened during peak hours on a friday.. Its not completely inconcievable that the game took 3hrs to update.. But.. I doubt it..Nothing about any of the game has seems polished, or legit as of yet...

Separating them from the events however..How exactly did this "hack" occur? I would also think that majority of the copies sold were on pc tbh.. Though we have no figrues to back this assumption.. DA has historically been a pc game, and its safe to assume that would continue.. Far fewer people have upgrades to the new consoles also, than have a pc.. Just a thought...

In fairness I did change the title a couple of hours ago, because given the discussion about bugs, I didn't think that possibility was sufficiently addressed in the title and given how the discussion had developed, the original title had become unnecessarily dramatic.

The OP is unchanged I think, I sometimes fix typos/grammer without a 'edit' marker if I see it later.
If I add significant stuff, I'll normally add an EDIT: comment.

I still think a hack is the most likely explanation and from the off my title was a question inviting discussion.

And despite seeking to avoid a platform war, it's quite hard isn't it  :)

The only target for my mild frustration is the hacker/bug, not PC players generally.

There is a wider question about whether the system structure PC's have, makes competitive events vulnerable,

whether or not that has happened in this case.

We were posting comparisons last night as it was happening./. And for as many players play on PC, there sure seemed to be little movement inthe numbers... This was all BEFORE the Pacific Coast would have been off work as well.. IMHO, i think the servers had to deal with the numbers.. Some of which update afster than others(clearly, as some players connections are noticably bad in mp, and mine and others are crystal clear)..

To just assume it was hacked is kindva jumping the gun.. Sorry if you dot like the outcome, but, Biowares servers have been ANYTHING but stable since the game released.. The obvious, and intial coclusion in descending order of liklihood would be server update>big/glitch? and lastly hack.. Thats an awful lot of effort to work around for "Mr Hacker", to simply gain a free chest that is given out any other time, and frankly still would have on Monday regardless...

Hacked for a loot chest... lmfao!

To suggest that PC players actually did hit 250,000 in 6 hours is a little suspect.

BioWare know the MP usage which is why PC/XB1/PS4 targets were 250,000 and PS3/XB360 were 37,500

If the PC player base was wildly larger, then they would have had a larger target.

If they could do 250,000 in 6 hours, then their target should be 1,000,000 over the weekend.

That said...

I was considerably more peeved when I wrote the OP than I am now.

My reaction was 'those PC cheaters again'.

That was mean and presumptive of me, so I'm sorry now I put that in the OP.

I do hope the PC players are not penalised (even if it is a hack) and this turns out to be a bug or data issue.

Taking PC out of the community challenge should only be a step of very last resort,

the challenge is more fun with them along.

As a long time PC gamer... I was very surprised to see the goal reached so early on as well.

I had been watching the progress on and off and it seemed like the PC community was amassing chests on par with the next gen systems...

Then as people noticed it jumped from just shy of 50,000 to 250,000.

Since we don't have real-time access to the numbers, I have to wonder if there wasn't indeed a bug that caused the progress to jump from 1st tier to the final tier.

I also remember early in the day, there were screenshots floating around that showed Challenges with completely different goals (Complete 5 Perilous matches), or goals with absolutely no indication what they were at all.

On the subject of bugging... Who even knows how stable BioWare's code is for counting something like this? They can't even get a pot to break properly or spawns to not be outside walls. Who's to say that every time they do client migration that everyone isn't submitting duplicate data and it's being multiplied server side. There's a myriad of possibilities that could cause this without any player intervention.

On the possibility of hacking.... Seeing as it *is* the PC platform and games can't do much to hide from memory address editors, I agree that it is entirely possible to alter data to increase collection. *HOWEVER* if BioWare is counting the collection client side and then submitting that data to the server... It's their own damn fault for having insecure data collection.

Any developer knows that data that it supposed to be secure should never be able to be altered by a client process.

Either way, as a PC player, it's not *my* doing and I was enjoying contributing to the challenge even though about a third of my games never complete due to crashes and bugs.

In the end I doubt the contents of this Victory Chest are really going to be worth all the drama, anyway.

I doubt it. Challenge tracking is one of the things that seems to be server side. So while people can give themselves infinite health or guard on all characters and raise their own damage or lower their teammates through hax, I don't think that drastically increasing the number of chests opened is possible for just a few people. So I blame Bioware.

And @OP the pc community would have completed the challenge over the weekend either way, so stop whining.

No, that's simply illogical;

Next time there's a challenge, we'll just give the victory chest to the PC players automatically as they would complete it anyway?

If they would have completed it anyway, do we even require them to do the challenge? We'll just give them the chest.

Utter nonsense.

As I said in the OP and its edit, this is not the world's most important issue

but if you're going to have a challenge at all, it may as well work right.

I trust it will be sorted out on Monday.

Thanks for the 'whining' comment, you're welcome to your opinion,

I've already had criticism for commenting on PC players at all as I play on Xbox and what they do doesn't affect me !

To be honest I  think most (Not gonna say all LOL) PC players would have preferred to have won the challenge, and been awarded the chest fairly without being handed to us like it has. But for unknown reasons that was denied us. I feel like I've opened enough chests in those little rooms to get my level 6 blue item and a couple of healing potions from the victory chest.

Just hope BioWare figures out what went wrong with the challenge and sorts out for next time.

We're probably never going to know if it was hacked or glitched though.

Unless there's been some official word that I'm unaware of all of this is speculation and pointless finger pointing. Which is a friggin' shame.

I'd still give them the chest, but I'd punish them by releasing another patch for PC.

This is the most evil thing I've ever heard.

The Challenge was completed. How exactly is up to interpretation, but what matters is that it was completed.
Now I want my Commendation Chest, preferably with a purple item inside.
