So, at first I noticed the my elves inquisitors had absolutely no idea who mythal was or any basic dalish knowledge (especially glaring when playing a mage who is the first of the clan), but I thought it was oversight on Bioware's part or just couldn't/didn't want to record extra lines. But if you take the nice option and thank Abelas, he calls them a shemlen:

I wanted my IQ to throw her staff at him and yell "Are my ears not pointy enough! :pinched: "

So I have to ask: Is this bug?

I don't know. The game was originally written for a human protagonist, so I can't tell if it is an oversight, or if they felt it just worked fine no matter the race. On the one hand, it's technically true... you are a quickened elf. On the other hand, it feels like there should be more elf specific dialogue there. An elven quizzy not knowing who Mythal is could have been left in for benefit of new players who don't know the lore.

no, its not, Shemlen doesn't equal human. It means loosely, "not of the people" To him, who is pretty much immortal only waking up to defend the temple, to ANY outsiders they are all Shemlen. Because they have killed Elves to protect the temple as well.

The devs said that the dalish elf not knowing who Mythal is is a bug in the code or something. As for him calling you shemlen, I think he just says it because you are not anything like the elves he knows.

I can't find this, nor remember which dev addressed the issue, but specifically regarding the "Who's Mythal?" line from a Dalish, one of the devs said it sounded like a scripting error. This hopefully means this is unintentional and will be addressed in a later patch.

Well I guess I can live with the shemlen thing(still irks me tough), but I really hope they fix the bug(if it really is- I wish I could find some actual post from devs or something) about the mythal dialogue.

Actually, shemlen means "quick children" or mortals.Kind of makes sense for Abelas to use it for an elfquisitor in that case.

This.

I took it as an intentional, "you are not of my people," on his part.

If you are an elf, when you first meet Aleblas, he says "You have the features of those who call themselves Elvhen." Whereas if you are not an elf, but have Solas in your party, he will refer to Solas as "one of our own."

He does not consider the elf Inquisitor his people - thus, you are a Shemlen, to him.

Yeah shemlen isn't a bug. He's just being a massive ass there!

The rest of it is definitely an oversite/bug though...

When you first meet Abelas as an elf, you have a dialogue option that makes you tell him that both of you are of the same people. He will bluntly tell you that you are not of the same people, hence why he calls you a shemlen.

As for the "Who's Mythal" line bug, I never got that one on my playthrough.
