So I've got two questions finally buying inqusition.

1. Are the classes anything like in DA II?

2. Is there any OP build I should stay away from to get the most out of my first playthrough?

I reccomend going warrior because it gives you the most freedom in class selection. Just don't fall in the trap of only controlling your quizz.
Rogue is good because you can stealth and use the rifts to stun demons.
Mage quizz only if you don't like the mage companions as you inquisitor is not Any better than them. Mage specced in knight enchanter is the most OP thing in the game.

All specializations, except Necromancer and Rift Mage (I think), can solo the game with relative ease even on the highest dificulty. Mostly due to the grossly overpowered crafting system. If you want a fun challenge, my advise is play the specialization that appeals to you the most and simply avoid using crafted items.
