I want to know the best party setups to kill dragons fast. If possible not by abusing focus abilities as I tend to not take them.

Bees.

I imagine it's much faster if you actually have a party with you.

Tempest can kill a dragon in seconds, but as you don't want focus abilities:

A tank of your choice, Champion would be the best choice imo since it's pretty much unkillable and has some of the highest damage in the game thanks to TTD.
A rogue, Tempest or Assassin.
A support mage for barriers, KE is the best choice since it has the best barriers. It can also dispatch guards really fast.
A debuffing mage, Rift Mage is great.

A Champion or an Assassin/Tempest alone can kill dragons super fast, put them together with a decent support and you're pretty much set.

All you need is a K-E and it's game over.  I'm working on a group with no specialties taken at all and finding it enjoyable.  Dragons are immune to all forms of CC so that eliminates about 70% of all mage spells.  I don't know about the other classes.  When one or two classes can solo a dragon on nightmare, then what more is there to say?

Well I was able to kill all of the dragons a couple weeks ago with my 2H human warrior on normal. This is my setup:

Two Handed:

Almost everything except BLOCK AND SLASH's upgrade. I probably should of not picked pommel's upgrade but I did it for VS normal goons because of the stun feature.

Vanguard:

WAR CRY +upgrade, CHALLENGE +upgrade, TRUST THE STEEL, CUTTING WORDS, UNTOUCHABLE DEFENSE, and IT'LL COST YOU. These cause attackers to stop attacking people like rouges and mages and have targets attack me. Since I took Sera and Dorian along this helps them out big time.

Reaver (Specialization Class):

RING OF PAIN + upgrade, BLOOD FRENZY, FERVOR, SCENTING BLOOD, DEVOUR, DRAGON RAGE + upgrade. A very high risk/high reward specialization class. With RING OF PAIN you deal more damage the more HP you lose in your red ring. If you activate this and use DRAGON RAGE (+upgrade) you'll deal damage ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 damage but will deplete your HP in the process. Also with the upgrade to DRAGON RAGE the minus HP rate will consume less HP than it did without the upgrade.

Inquisitor:

Both abilities. Combo attacks help.

Equipment:

Weapon: Sulvian blade (cleansing rune) 338 DPS

Armor: Custom made battlecoat armor. +20 cold resistance, +18 constitution, +36 fire resistance, + 27 heal bonus, superior battle master armor arms and armor legs.

Accessories: Belt: Superb belt of melee defence, Superb ring of armor penetration, enhanced earthshaking strike ring, cooldown amulet.

Potions:

Healing (added from Inquisition bonus. Did not upgrade because I couldn't find the upgraded root), Regeneration (upgraded duration and healing).

Notes about this setup:

Frankly I spent a good 80% to 85% percent of this setup gameplay controlling Sera and not my guy I found my setup way powerful where I didn't need to worry about my character going down since he'll just destroy on his own unless it comes to fights were I am better off controlling my character or rift bashing. Putting him on AI never seemed to be a mistake.

Other notes:

Sera: Since I always took Sera along and controlled her instead of my character I set her up to be more archery than dagger play. I got most of her archery abilities except for PINCUSHION and the upgrade to EXPLOSIVE SHOT. Getting POISONED WEAPONS + upgrade and FIGHTING DIRTY helps drain dragons HP and armor. In TEMPEST i got FLASK OF FROST +upgrade and FLASK OF FIRE +upgrade as well as FURY OF THE STORM in order to get THOUSAND CUTS. In SUBTERFUGE I got STEALTH +upgrade, EASY TO MISS, EVASION, EVADE +upgrade and AMBUSH in case Sera ever becomes a target. Her gear I just mainly found but did get her a cooldown amulet as well to recharge her abilities better. I gave her healing and regeneration potions as well.

Dorian: In Spirit I mainly researched his barrier and the ability to revive people. I never picked MIND BLAST. It also seems with a SUPERB BELT OF HEALING Dorian's revive spell with revive people to FULL HEALTH. Also I found a ENHANCED BARRIER RING which really helped. At times when I hame my inquisitor on low health with a regeneration potion in use Dorian would slap a barrier on me so the dragon attacks will do nothing to me for a bit while I continue doing 3,000 to 5,000 damage on near death.I took all abilities in STORM. STORM is a good pool because of the debuffing + damage effects. STATIC CAGE can be a problem for the AI but when casted it has a DOT effect. After I took all abilities in STORM I started WINTER but only reached WINTER STILLNESS when i dinged lvl 23. BARRIER Penetration helped only against barrier guys as well as the upgraded DISPEL.  I gave him healing and regeneration potions as well. I merely researched added flasks from the WAR ROOM to get Lyrium potions just for the heck of it.

Cassandra: I kept her in SW/SH and only missed LUNGE AND SLASH. SHIELD WALL is pretty much useless but I only use it when I try to have her manually reach a perjectile oriented target and have her kill a guy if GRAPPLING CHAIN was already used on something else. for BATTLEMASTER I usually get all except COMBAT ROLL +upgrade and WAR HORN because with this setup on a SW/SH your a tank and can take punishment despite not able to give it. HORN OF VALOR + upgrade When activated plus everything a reaver inquisitor can do it's added damage in your pocket for a short period of time. TEMPLAR is pretty good but it's mainly useful VS spirits, demons and mages. I only went up to THERE IS NO DARKNESS. As far as gear is concerned when I found or made better armor i gave her the second best armor and merely found better sw/shs for her along the way. I did give her a SUPERB RING OF ARMOR PENETRATION.  I gave her healing and regeneration potions as well.
