So your companions can't even leave? (false advertising?)

Excluding Sera, I haven't seen anyone say that a companion left after gaining enough disapproval, although in one of the final advertisement videos on Bioware's Dragon Age channel it clearly says something like "watch what you decide. Companions may disapprove, and disapproval could be enough for them to break their alliance with the Inquisition" and then it shows Varric walking away. (Taken out of context for the sake of misleading you into thinking everyone can leave)

No, in legal terms this is not a false advertisement as they don't outright say that Varric will leave nor they say that all companions can/will leave, they say that a companion can leave and it's true. A shampoo advertisement gets away with much more than this.

I've heard it is possible, though I have never personally tried it.   And while I have read about instances of Cole or Varric leaving with exceptionally low approval, I have never actually spoken to someone who actually had it happen to them.  I'm really curious now, though not sure I am curious enough to devote a playthrough to finding out.  I like both Cole and Varric too much to attempt it, personally.

I had Vivienne leave. Oh man she hated me soooo bad.

So yeah companions can leave you. Not false advertising.

Blackwall can also leave. No false advertising. Only certain ones do not leave, Cassandra will hate the Inquisitor's guts but still do her duty.

Damned good point.  I've never had a shampoo bring me to the brink of sexual climax.

Whenever my current PC walks up to Viv, she tells him he looks terrible (I think that's the ultimate insult in her mind). This guy has the potential to be the most hated by Viv, of my 3 PCs (Viv loved the decorating of the 2nd PC so he must have been doing something wrong since he didn't like Viv).   How can this current PC get Viv to leave? She's the only character I've ever wanted to get rid of.

Hold on a moment. You've done 3 playthroughs, you hate Vivienne, and you still recruited her?

Did you not realize you disliked her until partway through your third playthrough? After recruiting her for the third time, did you have a moment of epiphany where you realized "aha, that strange unpleasant feeling I was feeling on the first two playthroughs must have been hatred! I thought it was friendship this whole time!"

They can leave, it's just very very hard for it to happen.

I also don't think Iron Bull can leave, well, maybe he can, but I don't think I've seen anyone manage to get his approval low enough for it to happen?  At worst he's a merc, so I don't think much you can do affects him staying or leaving.

Yes, I know, it doesn't make sense but I've never not recruited any character in a video game...I'm not sure I can make myself NOT recruit her...it'd be like walking past ore and not picking it up or walking past that 1 millionth elfroot and not picking it up. I have enjoyed ignoring her in all my games so at least I'm getting that fun out of recruiting her. I dress her up in very ugly materials and hats and act really rude to her...I guess I'm getting a lot of entertainment out of her even if I don't like her.  :P  Oh, and it wouldn't be the same to just NOT recruit her...I think it'd be much more meaningful if she left. But really, I don't think she will...she's kind of stubborn when she wants something.  <_<

Vivienne == Elfroot

Hahahahaha, great comparison.

I am kind of curious just how low the disapproval must be for them to leave, perhaps in VIv's case you should focus on not having any kind approval from her.

I've had Blackwall walk out on me once, and I've seen footage of Cole leaving. So, yes, possible, no false advertising.

I got pretty high approval with Sera and the option of her leaving is still present. So companions can most definetly leave, it's just pretty hard to do (or really easy, depending on your choices, I heard Dorian leaving can be quite easy if you recruit the templars).

I despise Viv more than I've ever hated any companion in a game but I can't make myself not recruit anyone.

They can leave, you seem to have to work really hard to get them to hate you that much though (especially since you can't be evil and there really aren't THAT many choices in the game, even rp/flavor choices). Like not only make every single choice they disagree with but also be a total dick to them in every conversation.

It's a hard balance between not punishing players gameplay-wise and having reactivity.

They once said you could actually end up only Cassandra at the end. What the hell happened to that?

Just now, on a war table mission that didn't seem to have anything to do with Viv, when it was completed, I got approval from her. But I'm not going to ever pick any other choice for that particular mission because the choice I picked was the best one for my PC and what he is trying to do. So I can see how it might be impossible to get rid of folks when there are so many, "almost" hidden, ways to get approval.

From what I understand Solas is the only one that can't leave (no matter how much he hates you). All others have the potential to leave.

But that's only what I've heard/read. I haven't actually been able to accomplish making any of my companions leave. They all love me. Except for Viv once, she stuck around but she hated me and didn't want much to do with me

No, what they said was that you could end up with only one companion. A lot of people assumed it was Cassandra, but it's actually Varric.

(If you don't recruit any of the optional six and make Cassandra the new Divine, you trusty dwarf is the only person who stays post-game.)
