Must be the nature of Elves in DA, always trying to take over and then ending poorly for them :P

Or BioWare's writer just hates Elves especially Dalish Elves. Since you can murder at least an entire clan in each game. :P

It isn't illegal for elves to join the Chantry or Templars, is just rare

Elves can join the Templars but it's outright stated by Leliana that it is illegal for elves to become priests.

Well you can also reconcile Briala and Celene which I think would be better for the elves. For some reason I feel like Gaspard would have Briala killed eventually

It works well for elves until their next lover's spat.

Weird that the female elf from Sebastian's personal quest in DA2 joins them then

And another alienage gets burned down. I hear the one in Val Chevin is becoming overpopulated.

How is that ironic? I think most people over the age of 12 know who Napoleon is.

It is ironic because in the USA, it is a common stereotype for the French to be portrayed as cowardly cheese-eating surrender monkeys who cannot fight wars despite their long history as a strong military power that stretches all the way back to the time of Charlemagne.

This is further evidenced by the fact that most, if not all, of the military lexicon in Western European languages is derived from French.

Tbh, Briala at that point cares more about her own personal power then her fellow elves, they just happen to get some benefits from her power grab

I'm pretty sure that's restricted to people that don't bother reading the newspaper.

That's not ironic at all. It's just a joke. France hates us. We hate them. France hates England. England hates them. We hate England. England hates us. EVerybody hates everybody who doesn't stay loyal. And that Charlemagne dribble is kind of unimportant. Literally every country in Europe has roots from France and Charlemagne. It doesn't mean ****. That's like saying almost every country in Europe has military roots spanning back to Caesar's time. Wooptydoo.

I imagine some people will be so incensed they'll start multiple threads just to discuss it.

Depends on magnitude of the spat. While in Gaspard's case... well. The moment he breaks free, Briala is dead (or more probably: the moment Briala is dead, he breaks free) and being the douch he is we can count on him making elves more miserable than ever, out of spite. Imagine how much he has to hate the elven ****** making him a puppet on his own throne.

I don't think his vengeance would be directed only against Briala.

And the best part is that Germany did not become a unified state until the late 19th Century.  It was quite the upstart back then.

I'm pretty sure that's true regardless of the outcome. She already tried to have at least one elf killed for being a threat to her power. Who knows how many others the Inquisitor didn't save?

They'll find a way to screw up.

Elves just can't go 5 minutes without feeling sorry for themselves and blaming everyone.

Sure, the stereotype may have died down over the past few years, yet you and many others know what it is I write of.

You're talking about it being ironic that up until Germany because Germany, people thought France was hella boss. I'm saying. People don't actually think France is full of pomps. Not any educated ones, anyway.

The blackmailed-puppet thing was severely overplayed. It would have been much better, and more plausible, if Briala had asked for a few reasonable concessions from Gaspard instead of setting herself up for some horrible revenge later down the road by trying to puppeteer him.

Or even unreasonable things, but making him swear to it by his honor. Gaspard plays the Game as well as anyone, but Chevalier Honor was his big distinction from Celene in the book.

Celene was the sort of person whose word was unreliable unless you had coercive power over her- blackmail makes sense in that dynamic. But Gaspard was the sort of upheld the spirit and letter of his agreements, even if they forced a major disadvantage.

The puppet-master thing was a bit much for my suspension of disbelief, especially since Briala never had much interest in the empire as a whole and was never depicted otherwise in DAI. She goes from ethnic-advocate to True Ruler of All because... well, not clear why she wants that.

It's for the good of the elves. And if you don't support her, you're racist. (And self-hating, if you're an elf.)
