DA:I got some impressive awards over there, but after the Patch 3 there are new horizons to conquer!

Interesting idea btw, might work in a few environments. We should ask Greenpeace to make a statement on how thankful they are for ecological thinking representation.

You know this has been used, at Georgetown University, DC there was a modern park on top of the buildings when I worked there, probably still is.  It presented a lot of engineering challenges, but had a significant impact on air conditioning and vertical living space.  Materials have only gotten better at supporting this type of construction.

Didn't know, but it's good to.

So they could've engineered this bug after a university... That's I call creative.

You have some houses like that in island since 1300 you know. But yeah, they don't use wood : All this pasture weight a ton!

So-called Green Roofs have been in use for thousands of years. They had them in the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. In Europe people covered their roofs with turf because of the insulation value - warm in winter, cool in summer.

I didn't even look twice when I saw them in DA:I as they were familiar from RL.

Edit: And while they were/are more common on stone houses you can use wood framed buildings as well.

Well the bugs in the real case are a different matter, simply applied on untreated wood insects gave our ancestors major problems.  The roof pitch is too steep in the example you showed, a living roof requires a low pitch and thus more strength from materials like steel and concrete so it can support snow load and soaking.  They also need protection from elements and organics that leach from the soils and that is where modern materials make a big difference.  This good idea has taken a long time to develop as with most Edisonian approaches (continuous experimentation).

Isn't this one all wood (except the foundation)?

I work as an Ecologist, so seeing those green roofs made me so happy when I got to the Hinterlands :D

I wrote an article for Polygon about ecology and hunting in video games last year, and Dragon Age Inquisition was the focus. Mainly praising games for animation quality (dragon hunting preview videos looked brutal and made me feel empathy for them) and highlighting which games handled those aspects well, and what they could do to improve. Inquisition put a lot of thought into its wildlife, so I guess it's hardly surprising to see them use green roofs too :)

First, the roof is not so tilt. In DAI, it is almost a red pist for snow.

Second, the wall are thick. In DAI you see the sun going through.

Not the same thing.

Ah, I though this was just about the material used. Never mind then.

You'r welcome. In fact, the ecological houses of DAI had a lot of issues. Well, the game itself has lot of issues too and if they take their time to remove that I won't mind. ;)
