Hello everyone,

I hope I am posting this in the right place...

I'm planning a simple modification and therefore I have a few questions:

  • Is it possible to change the starting items for the different backgrounds? For example I want to give the human noble a greatsword instead of a sword and shield at the beginning of the game.
  • Is there any way to change the starting talents? For example change the noble dwarf starting talent "shield bash" to "powerful"?

Many thanks in advance!

Narph

The items - yes

The toolset wiki is your best friend.  Rather than altering existing items, I suggest adding new items to the Origin in a storage chest.   If you use a prcscr_  you can add different items (easily) to each Origin.

For talents, probably not as easy as it sounds so I would just add a talent book to the storage chest above :D

You can duplicate the appropriate creature file and edit the inventory. Give it a custom resref, then after exporting, edit it to override the original.

Thank you for your quick answers!

@MerAnne: Wouldn't it be easier to add a chest into the starting area via the toolset? I mean, it is possible to add a placable into the castle cousland area e.g. and edit the inventory of that chest. I'm pretty new to modding and all I wan't to do is a simple overhaul of the single player. What I wish to say is: Do I need to write a script?

@DarthParametric: Where can I find the appropriate creature files in the toolset? I've been searching for a while now, but I can't find any file in the creature list, that comes into question to be the player's creature file...

@all: As I said, I'm new to modding and I hope I don't bother you with my nooby questions. And sorry for my english, it is not my first language...

Again, many thanks in advance!

@DarthParametric: I found the creature files for the player!

But how does the dwarven noble gets his weapons? his inventory only contains the armor...

Been a while since I messed with that stuff, but Dwarf nobles presumably start out unarmed as part of the intro of that origin. The UTCs for the other origins have weapons equipped. I imagine a script adds/equips weapons when appropriate (at the Proving maybe?). If this is just a mod for your own use, the easiest option is to add what you want unequippped to the inventory and manually equip it when able.

I believe that! I must say that I'm surprised how quickly my post was answered  :)

Alright, I'm going to add the items unequipped to the inventory. I think that's the easiest way.

I just had hoped to add the dwarven noble a dwarven longsword and a shield with aeducan heraldry right at the start of the game (the shield depending on the answers you give gorim). I've searched the single player scripts for that, but I haven't found what I was looking for. But there must be a script, that adds the sword and the shield to your inventory, while you talk to Gorim...

In any case, thank you very much for your help!  ;)

Just remember that the Dwarf noble loses all their gear at the end of the origin when they get banished. If this is a mod you intend on publicly releasing, a better option might be to add something to Gorim's store in Denerim (from memory I think he has a sword for Dwarf nobles already, so you could just hijack that). Otherwise script it to add at Ostagar.

I found out where to find the items the dwarf noble gets from Gorim: the sword and the shield are rewards. So I thought it would be simple just to change the reward into the item I want. But there is no way to change the item...Does anybody know how to change it?

It would presumably be a script that adds them to the inventory (and/or equips them). You should just be able to make a copy with altered resrefs for your desired items.

Thank you very much! With your help and the help of the wiki I found out how to change the rewards.xls and get the changes into the game! It's really simple  :)
