Is Solas now the Flavor of the Month?

I know about his "reveal" but he is is a bland and "full of himself" character. So how long will this Solas fad last?

Eh, Dorian is still my go-to Mage and Cullen my go-to romance, so I must be immune.
That being said, I do plan to romance him with my elf warrior (before or after my human mage with Dorian, I'm not sure).
My husband and I have an in-joke at home called the 'Solas disapproves' face, because damn, that dude sometimes seems like the new Morrigan. I like him waaaaaaaaay more than Morrigan, though. *raises flame shield*

Probably the only character that actually matters. Especially once he is revealed. Some Keyser Soze ****.

I doubt it will die soon. He wasn't as popular before release because we didn't know anything about him. Now we do, and it turns out a lot of us love him! I can't think of a reason that would change until something new happens in DLC/the next game.

Because before the game came out, we knew next to nothing about Solas and he has a (purposefully) bland design. We knew Cassandra and Dorian had a more interesting design and more about his character revealed. But Dorian is still a really popular character and probably one of the fan-favorites from DAI based on what I've seen around. Not sure what you've been seeing.
After the game came out, fans got to know Solas and decide that he was well written and very interesting. Many even thought so before his final reveal. His reveal makes him a person of a lot of interest, though, because it will undoubtedly factor into a future game. He's the only companion that it seems is guaranteed to play an important role in the future. That means he's going to get a lot of speculation and buzz and I'm really not certain why you're surprised or confused about that.
If you don't like him, that's your opinion and you have a right to it. Nobody is going to change your mind about finding a character boring or unlikable. But to say you don't understand why people find him interesting is......odd, if I have to pick a word for it. Even ignoring the rest of his character, just due to that final reveal alone it should be quite obvious why.

Before DAI came out it was Doria this and Cassandra that. Now it seems that Solas is the new "it" character. Dorian was always the favorite mage before release, now it is Solas. Scribbles, Cullen, Cassandra were the goto romances, now it is Solas. Solas this Solas that Solas DLC Solas in DA4 and so on.
I know about his "reveal" but he is is a bland and "full of himself" character. So how long will this Solas fad last?
Mmm... how did you get that impression? (about Solas being new "it") Especially DLC part. Did I miss something and BW advertised DLC for Solas?

Dorian and Cassandra are still almost always numbers one and two in popularity polls. It's just that Solas fans are very active and very vocal. Just like elf fans in general are.

To more seriously answer OP's question;
People are interested in Solas because we're not done with him. There's a lot to talk about. There's a lot to speculate. The other companions we got to go through this process in game. You got to find out some of their darker secrets, you got to get to know them better. We got to know Solas...but then again, we didn't. That's why he is very interesting to people. Not only that, but he went against most people's expectations of what the character of Fen'Harel would be like. People want to find out more. Is he a plotting villain? An anti hero?
As for why the romance is well liked- it is very emotional and well done. Narratively, people love stories about star-crossed or ill fated lovers.
Doesn't mean it is for everyone. You can absolutely hate him! I just mean to explain why he's currently popular to talk about.

The Solas "fad" will die when his story is actually resolved. For now, people are just going to mull over what the final scenes really mean and what the next story will tell. I think the interest in his character is well-earned.

Solas is the one character in the game revealed to have had a hidden agenda the whole time. Given that there is clearly an unresolved plot concerning him the interest in Solas is only natural and a given. His "flavor of the month" status may wane once that's resolved but he'll remain an interesting and series-important character because of it.

Pretty much everything Rynj said. Not going to bother adding to it, since I'd say much the same things.
Also, he was hardly unpopular before the game came out. His character thread was, if I recall, the most active after the Cullen thread (and that thing is a monster - no one's catching up to that thing, ever
.) Despite the fact that, after maybe Blackwall, he was the companion we knew the least about and who got the least marketing and dev attention. His fans just tended to keep to that thread, I think, where fans of other characters were more vocal throughout the forum.

I don't know but I still despise his very being. He's just such a... dick.
I agree and will from now on refer to him as Richard.
How can you not love this jerk? His head SPARKLES!
Does Inquisitor Lavellan still share that sentiment with you?
I sure am glad Arianne went for Sera. Happy forever after until DLC.

Yes, she does. I wouldn't trade what we got with Solas for a cliche happy ending, staring off into the sunset. Solas' romance made me feel more than I've ever felt while playing a game - both good and bad. Most of all, the romance made my Lavellan's story have a stronger connection with the main plot. It's also tragic - a god falling in love with a mortal and something I didn't expect Bioware to do.
And I romance him every single time, even knowing how it ends :3

It did make the story way more relevant. So glad I chose him over Cullen...as nice and sweet as Cullen can be. The fact that he's one of the few companions who are actually important to the story. And that end scene...damn. What if you have to fight him in the continuation??? UGH the tragedy!!!

Whether it's the majority or the minority there will always people who like some characters that you or others don't like as much.Neither is a bad thing, opinions are opinions.
What I don't understand however,is why even bother if he doesn't "do it" for you.If it's simply an attempt to see the character in a different light then I suppose it's your choice, even though I don't really see a reason in forcing yourself to like him.
Still,if this turns out to be one of the "Why people like things I don't like",kind of thread...Then I suppose it's because this is the way things are.
