I am curious on what the best rule of thumb for giving gifts should be. I know it decreases by 1 point after each subsequent gift, but what about with the special ones? Will gifting a normal gift decrease a special gifts' approval by 1 as well, making it only 9 when you gift it? Or are they separate? Also, once a normal gift is dropped down to 1 point, will gifting subsequent gifts still lower the special ones (assuming they are affected, as well)?

I'm at the first party camp and was wondering if it may be best to just hold off on gifting anyone just yet or if it all won't matter anyway since you're losing a point regardless. I have Morrigan and Sten as warm through convos, but not Alistair and Leilana. :(

I wouldn't concern myself too much about giving them gifts. Just remember certain companions have specific tastes in gifts and you should have no problems gaining approval

I never ran out of gift points to get and keep everybody up to 100. I threw cake at everybody anytime I wanted more points. I do know you may want to plan ahead if you want to get Oghren to like you in Awakenings. I think his like/dislike system and gifting is messed up so if you gave him gifts in Origins, his gifts in Awakenings have discounted points.

Cool, thanks for the advice! Just wondering if there is a more efficient way of doling them out or if it didn't really matter. I guess it's the latter.  B)

I would only start out with giving the companions "special gifts" that mean something to them.  You'll hear them mention something in a conversation.
