This is the only question I am asking, what are some reasons why an adult male would create adolescent looking female characters. Are they trying to RP a young female lad saving the world? Are they recreating their daughter/sister/relative who is of similar age? And so on. 

 

I am not trying to call anyone a pervert for doing so, but because it is a bit not normal, I wanted to understand if there were any motives behind it besides the scary thought of an adult male finding adolescent women attractive.

 

If I came off as accusatory then I am sorry as that was not my intentions.

There are some topics that are quite 'loaded', this is one of those.

 

An excellent check before posting anything on the internet is to test that it meets 3 rules:

1. Will I get into trouble legally by saying this
2. Will I break site rules/terms of service by saying this
3. Would I feel comfortable showing my friends/partner/family/mother that I posted this

May I suggest your question (summarised) 

 

'why do you role play adolescent girls if not out of attraction?'

 

Is going to cause you issues with meeting rule 3, and you are probably flying mightily close to rule 2

not to mention making for a pretty uncomfortable thread.

 

On the basis that you were not being accusatory, it might be wise to call this thread a day

because you won't find a satisfactory answer to your original question, but you are likely

to continue to get heat for continuing to explore it.

I'm mostly disturbed by the OPs assumption/inference that all those female elves belong to male players and hence there is something creepy or or odd about it. I'm a woman, 50+ years old, and in every. Single. cRPG I have ever played, first time out, I've rolled a red-haired female Elf or Half-elf, if the option is available. I always make her an archer, too... I just like playing female elven archers... and that anyone might read something more into that, based solely on the physical appearance of my toon, is, well, mindboggling.

It's not completely unreasonable to apply the same logic to a single player RPG given the audience overlap.

I think the better question is why this is so important to you. And I say this as as guy who only ever plays as male PCs (except in WoW, I have a handful of female characters there).

A good number of threads here in the various forums could be answered with "why does this matter to you...."

The way I see it, if you dont care and believe this thread to be meaningless then why reply to it and keep at the top of the forum instead of letting it die down.

For real though, is it a stretch to consider that a 16 year old elf might appear similar as a 12 year old human?  A 30 y/o elf would get carded by the bouncer at the Hanged Man, I have no doubts. Them elves...they just ain't human.

I do know that at one time elves aged slow, but that is not the case now due to much exposure to humans, even the dalish. Just look at the Keeper of Merrill's clan, she has some years on her and shows some age as well as many other elves in DAO/DAI/DA2. So it isnt like it isnt lore capa ble to have older looking elves. Hell if you play around with the CC complexion slider you can get very young looks all the way up to someone who looks 70 even though the Inquisitor is said to be no older than 40.

To not bust your backstory, but Hawke starts out in Lothering as 21, while the twins are 18 years old.

Im pretty sure Hawke is 24-25 at the start of DA2

Most people don't have a good grasp of facial proportions imo. Lower eyes = younger in general, but a lot of people aren't conscious of that necessarily. And to be fair, a lot of the presets have godawful starting proportions so it's not like they're necessarily trying for that.

 

Add to that that elves supposedly have big eyes (one of our companions says so anyway) and that also makes for more youthful looks.

 

Somewhat more on topic, I think the mistake is assuming that a) people intend to do romances with all their Inquisitors and that these characters are being designed by players with the intent to sexualize.

Do people really have a choice? The dalish already look like starved prepubescent teens. Not much you can do to change that.
