so guys and gals of the ME team, I had a dream last night about Mass Effect. I haven't played the game in about a year but this just kind of sprung up on me, but essentially here's the dream. They find Shepard and Anderson's body. (I personally had a strong war effort resources, and Shepard lives) Still they take Shepard who is now in coma, Miranda who was a Cerberus Op is now working on restoring him as she did in 2. A few years later Shepard wakes up Miranda greets him and renews his memory of what happened, and explains where they are at, a section of the citadel that had broken off. (one of the pillars that form the crucible) The races are still rebuilding on it, and a few of the mass relays had been rebuilt but not all. This limits interstellar transport between galaxies but makes it possible. Due to the importance of the Normandy they were recovered from the jungle planet, and a few were sent on their way. Wrex and grunt went back to Tuchanka, and others were waiting on the commander to come back. Tali, Joker, EdE, Ashley/Kaiden,Javik and Garrus of course. Garrus has become a member of the Citadel security again, and tali along with EdE and Joker have been patiently waiting for Shepard to return to the helm as commander. The first night back Shepard takes his love interest out to eat at night and they catch up, then the next day something tells you to visit the police station. Sure enough Garrus is there and he grabs you in a big hug and says he'll be right out. He takes you on a motorbike ride which is more like a T-Rex then an actual Motorcycle. You guys go out and shoot, when you come back to the middle of the new citadel someone runs to you and says the council wishes to speak with you. So you go the the central comm area in the citadel, its a giant circular aread lines with comm booths. Shepard gets on one and dials the council. They thank Shepard, You have done a great service for us, defeating the reapers and making life safe again. We just have one small thing to say, we have a new mission, and you're going to need a crew. I awoke after this but this seems like a great way to put Shepard back on the map instead of opening a new series with a new character. Thanks for reading, John.

I've got my own: there is a prologue with high variability that essentially functions as your character's background story.
The game starts up with your character walking through the security scanners of semi-large military ship- there is a gathering of people there to attend a ceremony dedicated to the memory of a war hero (not Shepard), and a prominent political figure is present. Passing through security, you first create your character, and are asked to provide documentation for why you are carrying a weapon. Take your pick-- Military, independent security, or false papers. Here you also pick your class, etc.
After gaining entrance to the ceremony, you choose where to view the ceremony from: As security, in the crowd, or alone, against the wall. If you select a location close to other people, you can choose to talk briefly about why you are attending (or, just as easily, stay in the back and say nothing). In either case, as the ceremony progresses, your character notices something is amiss. A few members of security, as well as others at the ceremony, fire shots into the air, and the political figure is taken hostage. The crowd is huddled together, surrounded by armed terrorists (for lack of a better word). The politician is held at gunpoint, somewhat close to your location.
You must make the choice: You can allow the terrorists to escape with the politician, but this saves lives. (This would be a somewhat boring prologue, but that's kind of the point here) You can incite the people to fight back, resulting in casualties but potentially allowing you to save to politician in the chaos. (This would have a fun assault prologue, where you fight you way through the crowd, saving or sacrificing people as you try and save the politician.) Or, you can shoot out a window and grab the politician, essentially ensuring the terrorists do not survive, but killing the majority of the people. (This would cue an interactive cutscene, where your character must don a helmet and struggle to close the airlock without losing hold of the politician. There would probably be a conveniently placed hose or something to grab hold of.)
This kicks off the story as your character is then tasked with finding the terrorist group and their motivations. They could either be working directly for the main antagonist, or be a cheaply hired team that's easily thrown away, depending on how they decide to go with the story. But picking a backstory from a menu is pretty uninteractive for a series that prides itself on choice, I'd like to act it out myself. (Childhood history still may need to be a menu choice, but the equivalent of war hero, ruthless and sole survivor and done here)
