I was wondering what people prefered more in the main hero of the next dragon age. To be apart of a group like The Warden and Inquisitor or to be freelance and not part of anything like Hawke? And for those who enjoy a character to be apart of a group in Thedas would they rather there hero be the head leader/founder of the grounp like the Inquisitor or Start out as a new member of a current group and eventually rise to being one of its leaders like the Warden and which groups currently in Thedas would you want a future hero to join if any? If DA4 is going north and so far when a hero has been in a group its been neutral for the most part like Grey Wardens and Inquisition so decision wont feel forced in any direction, The Felisima Armada(Raiders of the Walking Sea) would be a nice fit for a future hero of the series. NPCs can call you Captain as a neutral name, Our ship can be our mobile base that we can customize, gives more role-playing for people who want to kinda walk on the dark side, Can allow of exploration to multiple countries and zones in the north because of sea travel, and we can decide who we want to add The Qun or Tevienter. The Raiders really have no single leader so it kinda gives the best of both worlds if we lead our own ship with unique companions.
DA Future Hero: Group vs Freelance

I think something in the middle is ideal for me. Like, early Wardens in DAO, or even an elven clan or whatever is appropriate for a race. but definitely leaning more towards Hawke-style than Inquisition; the plots can be high or low but I really enjoy tight-knit groups.
I love your idea by the way, it would be a nice way to start out in the north if there is a new main character.
It'd be really cool to be partially seaborne, even if it's just through story.

It should be left up to the player. We could choose to join a group and devote ourselves to a higher cause or remain a self-interested freelancer. Or join an organisation and twist it to our own purposes.

Would you want the groups to have restrictions or a type of race gate? like only dwarves can join the carta or merchants guild?

it all depends on how the story is written, DA2 did an excellent personal/emotional story that made it so wonderful for many people (despite its mechanical flaws) DA:O also did this well with the amazing character progression of your party members, world life changing decisions.
DA:I it was just not designed so well, there wasn't really a sense of struggle since your advisors do most of the important stuff (recruit your army, tell you where to go etc) So I hope in the next one they do something where the protagonist isn't held up on lofty heights, but had a more active role in the story than being a puppet.

I have a soft spot for amnesiac storylines. I would really like to see a "find out who you really are" plot from BW again.
Kotor and Torment are really old games by now and I'd like to see that kind of story again.

one where you be a king and rule over a realm with your advisiors, while going out with your companions to fight baddies

I would say a little of both. I would want the protagonist to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, where he/she has no choice but to go along. He/she isn't the leader, but just part of the crew. The leader could be a party member or someone we would report back to from time to time. As for why the leader would be following you if he/she's a party member, think of it more like he/she is side by side with you, and would ask for your opinion on important things.
In the end, it really depends on the story and how bioware would want to tackle it.

I'd like another attempt at a Hawke-esque protagonist next game.
Any big guddamn hero tied to some big guddamn organization would probably pale in comparison to the Herald of friggin Andraste and the Inquisition at this point, I imagine.

Freelance; groups suck. Hawke had freedom to move and shake Kirkwall as a kingpin of crime and corruption. Hawke did not have a massive organization tying her down. Hawke could be a blood mage who owned a Tevinter slave and took care of pesky civilians. The Inquisitor could not.

If the group was of comparable importance to the Wardens or Inquisition, I'd say there should be no restrictions.
If the organisation was of secondary importance, however, race-gating or similar limitations would be interesting. I'd also be interested in assuming a leadership role and truly shaping the faction around you, which is something I don't think Inquisition delivered.

I just want to make a human noble main character for the 4th game in a row. I don't like to mess with perfection.

I've been wanting this forever.
I love the idea of a ship with close quarters, so it feels cozy. I'm not talking abt sea battles, just having it as a main base. Perhaps getting some great skyline type of cinematics when you enter a new city---I'm hoping for more cities in the next game. Being able to dock and just enjoy the view and sounds if you want.
I could see us approaching Nevarra for example. It's dark, foggy/misty. As we start pulling into port the mist opens up and gives you your first view of Nevarra and its Necroplois. That kinda thing.
So, not like AC4 and all that, but just the illusion of it would be enough for me. And maybe some "advisor" type that steers the ship. And a couple of npc's below deck that could cook the food--for pretend. And be a merchant so we can dump off our stuff when we need to. And that's it. Not a huge crew. Just the illusion.
Also still have an impact on what's going on around us. Perhaps like that Isabela story abt setting those slaves free. That could be us. Things along those lines. Then also dealing with an enemy we might make because of such actions.
The event does not have to be messiah level save the world stuff for it to have an impact. I'm tired of playing Jesus. Did that in ME3. Now in DAI. I wanna get into some trouble. lol!
Sure it could get more serious later in the game as we get embroiled with whatever could be going on in Tevinter or...the Qun...or whatever may be going on in the next game.
I just don't wanna be trapped in one city and made to feel powerless to affect any change at all.
That's it.
Mobility. Freedom. New areas to see. A Raider. edit: or a Freelancer.

Which is why I think the Raiders fit perfectly for a hero from the north. Inquisition while being the leader sounded nice with the judgments and skyhold at times i didnt feel as connect with my companions as I did with Warden and Hawke companions because there is no equal ground between yall, you are the leader and they work for you more so then with you. The Raiders are a collection of ships and while Im sure vets like Isabela may have more pull then other ship captains each ship has its own rules and code. It will be more like how DA:A was with vigils keep, we are just a leader of our ship part of a bigger collection known as the Raiders. We chart our own path and handle things our own way. We can recruit certain people like how ME2 did by finding leads for our ragtag bunch. Maybe start out small and work our way up the chain. Act 1 finding a ship, recruiting and building up our name. Then by Act 2 being a famous Raider Captain who now different nations like the qunari antiva and tevienter want our help, and we can decide who we choose and why. Act 3 can be the epic heroic climax and ending stuff. And when it comes to main quest how advisors gave them a opinion we can have all our companions meet us in the ships haul while we make big main quest decisions so everyone feels important to it. Judgements can still be done just differently:throwing over board, selling to a slaver, joining the crew, freeing them, etc. Maybe one fight against a sea serpent and a chance to see Biowares take on mermaids. Porting to different cities and really seeing the cities and not just one distract would be cool. We need alot of wildlife stuff maybe seeing different cities in one game would be a nice change of pace with some wildlife. Plus we had a character every game describe the sea or something related, Zev, Isabela and Josey. Its time to experience and see why they love these port cities. But no more being the leader of a huge faction.

I approve of this idea. I'd love to play a scoundrel that has a great more freedom to move about and get mixed up in some serious sh*t and can turn out to be the big damn hero because standing idly by or turning and running just isn't acceptable anymore.

Terrible idea and thank god it wont happen. Ill say it again, and new protag for every game was a great idea. Want to play as the Inquisitor again? Play Inquisition, DA4 will be fresh start and Bioware already said their done with southern thedas.
