(01) you can swim in lakes and oceans. You can dive but watch how long so you don't drown. You can find special crafting materials, chests and sunken ships. Might have to fight off aggressive fishies. There are tides, currents, mist, seagulls, and fish jumping, etc.

(02) When finding a random campsite, you can have a nap in the sleeping bag or sleep in the tent. You can set how long you nap or sleep. You can chop wood and make a fire to keep away the animals at night. The fire has smoke, sparks, embers, and you can put it out with water too. You can go into tents and explore.

(03) A storage chest in the main campsite and personal quarters. Store as much as you want. Access main campsite from world map whenever you want.

(04) Chat with all partty members whenever you wish. Lots of party banter.

(05) buy gifts in towns or find them and give to any party member whenever you wish to romance or annoy them.

(06) have pets

(07) be able to go to town, buy a deed for land anywhere in the game, build a big place, custom inside and outside.

(08) Your romanced character can stay at your place or adventure with you.

(09) To get married, stay single, divorced, have an affair and option to adpot or have kids.

(10) explore and scale up and down mountains and deep canyons. New craftable items, chests, missions you normally would never find.

(11) Build a boat and explore on lakes or oceans. To get to area you couldn't swim out that far. Meet other boats, friends or foe. In winter climates, watch out for icebergs. In warmer areas, watch out for trees sticking out of the water.

(12) Skill trees have some complexity to them and not simplified and dumbed down

(13) Real time weather and sky. Could be raining, cloudy and windy.....could be snowing and cold......could be hot, and dusty. You would get moved a bit from the winds and moving on icy surfaces. Clouds are moving and changing real time.

(14) Real time sun sets and sun rises. Watch them alone or with your romanced character or your lover.

(15) Actually open lids on barrels and chests, and see what's inside.

(16) can eat bought and found foods. Some are good for you, health and some are bad, with limited side effects. Have yourself or give to any party memeber at any time.

(17) Change armor, weapons and all items on the fly for all party members, whenever and where ever you want.

(18) Cut down trees if some are in the way of a hidden path.

(19) Put out a house fire, or start one to get the people out of it to search for items.

(20) Buy custom clothes for your party and romanced character and lover.

(21) Restore Isometric view for PC and still have the game optimized for consoles. Two versions.

(22) Have a whorehouse for females, males, and bi interests. All characters can be interacted with to an extent, dancing, etc.

(23) Interact with NPC's if you hear them talking about you or to you when you walk on by.

(24) Actually open and close gates, doors and windows. Look outside, keep the bad weather out, keep livestock in, pets in or out, etc.

(25) Have main realms as quests. Dwarven kingdome.......Elven kingdom.......Human kingdome.......Qunari kingdom.........and each are their own main quest missions with sub quests.

(26) A very long game

(27) A very well thought out and well written game

(28) If possible, have a section for mods so users can mod the game as much as they want.

(29) Have DLC's already made and released at later dates, every few months.

(30) Useful and meaningful side quests

(31) At the end of the game, either properly close it off, all holes thoroughly covered OR allow savegame import to next game using your main character and choices you made. Start new game with your previous main character at lvl 01 again if need be.

This would go a long way to make a really great, immersive, interactive RPG that you would play and remember many years after its launch.

Most of these don't strike me as particularly interesting, and several look like they'd be really expensive if done right.

Actually, the whole list looks like it would fit far better in a TES game.

Watch out though. Suggest that players pay more than $60 for such a game and you'll have someone jumping down your throat regarding how video games are overpriced.

Edit: Although I notice the OP doesn't say anything about graphics, cinematics, or voice-acting. That would be a way to downplay costs.

Ideas come from many different games to what you can do and should be able to do.

The more you take away what you can do, the worse the game is and will be medicore and forgotten.

The above suggestions come from me playing RPG's and not just Skyrim and they add to the realism and interactiveness of the game. That's what a RPG is all about instead of we can't do this, or that, etc, etc, etc.......

Today, paying $60 CAD for a game isn't expensive. Average I'd say.

For a really great game, you get what you pay for and I got the Digital Deluxe of DAI for $45 CAD........hmmmmmm.

Why can't DAI patch these features in and add DLC's?

Imagine the reviews of DAI if that happened? 10 out of 10. Best game ever. Best RPG ever. What a minute.....aren't we seeing this now....?

And we don't have any of these features after patch 3........hmmmmm

Instead of taking away what we should be able to do, add features and options to make the rpg more realistic. Just a thought.

Above suggestions are from DAO, Skyrim and other RPG's I've played. If OLDER games can do the above, why can't Bioware with the latest Frostbite 3 engine?

So as time moves on, they do less and simplify more with the latest engines?

A lot of the items on your list may be realistic but based on some of the realistic suggestions I have made on this forum many may see them as tedious. Many of the others have been done in TES games, Fallout 3 & NV and Kingdoms of Amalur.

The other problem is that a great many of the items would be expensive to implement. Also you make no mention of cinematic, graphics or voice acting which quite a few gamers have come to expect.

The more realistic an engine attempts to be the harder it is to do any one of those things.

Why not make DAI completely modable then?

Have a Bioware modable forum with uploads and downloads?

So the newer the engine, the harder it is to add realistic features? That doesn't make sense. It should be easier.

Isn't there an engine that allows for realsim and what you can really do?

Used for DA4?

If OLDER games with their engines could do the above, newer engines should be able to do so.

Or the Frostbite 3 engine can do the above suggestions but maximum profits are the main goal???

Wrong. An engine is just a tool, the only limit you have is production time. In fact, it's becoming easier to code things like deformation.

An engine can't be easily moddable for users unless the company owns all of the development tools. If there is licensed middleware it becomes economically impossible to give out the tool.

I see......so you'd have to make your own engine? Then you'd own it and could license it out, modding it to the max?

So it is all about the money.

If Bioware released DA4 but instead of on sale for $45 CAD or $60 regular price?, maybe $70 CAD regular price?

The answer to your question is some developers and publishers do not like giving their SDK (aka the engine/modding tools) out because they believe (wrongly) that if users or modders create content then they cannot sell DLC (armor, skins, etc) if modders do it for free. It is an utterly idiotic and destructive philosophy.

Also:

"EA Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment AB,[3] also known as EA DICE or DICE, is a Swedish video game developer, wholly owned by Electronic Arts. The company is best known for video games such as the Battlefield series and Mirror's Edge."

"Frostbite is a game engine developed by EA Digital Illusions CE, the creators of the Battlefield series."

So you can put two and two together.

This is from FrostBite:

"Living World

The entire world is alive in Frostbite games, immersing players into deep and dynamic worlds with always changing wind, water, and weather.

For many years, our developers have pursued realistic visuals. We have defined industry-leading visual standards by simulating real-world lighting conditions and depth of field characteristics.  The next step for us has the pursuit of realism beyond static visuals. Dynamic behaviors over time are key to immersion and believable worlds.  In our games, players will notice subtle movements in the world around them driven by changes in weather.  Prepare for the next level of realism, driven by Frostbite technology!"

It was never meant for the PC.

"Runtime in Frostbite supports a highly scalable model in order to appeal to the diverse array of platforms available on today’s market. Efficiency in both our runtime memory and runtime performance are both key factors to enabling code and data systems to deploy content to diverse targets from XBOX360 and PlayStation 4 to iOS and Android."

It was meant for many different systems as you bold from XBOX360and Playstation 4 to iOS and Andriod. So PC is one of those systems whether you consider it or not. Because last time I check it is used to make the Battlefield games beginning with Battlefield Bad Company which started on Microsoft Windows and MacIntosh OS X which used Frostbite 1.0. So Frostbite started on the PC.

I play dragon age for the story, hands down. I don't play dragon age to play skyrim, because dragon age is better than skyrim.

meh.  While a lot of that stuff would be cool features.  No doubt.  I don't see how any of that results in better Role Playing.  Seems like a lot of busy work, side jobs, and things to do other than role play.  With the exception of buying land with the possibility of building it into an estate. Most of that just seems like extras, while not actually adding to any sort of role playing element.

To improve role playing, I would prefer focusing on better character building thru deeper skill trees, and adding proficiencies both combat and non combat.  Also more voice acted dialog choices.  Enough to where banter evolves more than it does now to your game choices.  And dialog options that are altered based on your background, race, gender, in game choices and learned codex content.  They attempt to do it, but it would require 10x the amount of voice acted content to get it to where I'd like to see it.

I'm just saying I'd rather they spend their money on the latter.

I guess it all comes down to money and were Bioware wants to spend it.

Extra features and options that would make DAI a really immersive, and interactive game like other older games have done, would set a higher standard and users would remember and play DAI 5+ years later.

I always thought you want to improve and one up from the last bunch of games, to stick out in a good way, versus taking away and simplifing over and over and too much static eye candy you can't interact with at all........like going to an art gallery.

Seems odd that an engine "never meant for the PC" would let you use Mantle, no?

It all sounds novel, but how it plays out in practice could be very different from what one thinks it amounts to in theory. Just the same, I just want the protagonists to become more and more flexible, in the way they can express beliefs and opinions on companions and more dynamic relationships between the two as well as various NPC's. I don't care about having any kind of profound effect on everyone's lives, though maybe one or two in the central cast might be grand if done right, but I would greatly appreciate a bigger investment in dialogue, and perhaps even various cut scenes to reflect on what I picked.

Having a lot of options when exploring the world is very nice, but the thing I always look forward to revisiting is the conversations, and alternate paths I can take with characters I care about.

Well, that's the thing. I'm not agreeing with the part where this would make the game really memorable. Most of your ideas sounded either like stuff I saw in Skyrim, which I thought was OK but nothing great, or throwing more money into the stuff Bio usually throws stuff into.
