And that ridiculous looking outfit many orlesians sport. The one with puffy shoulders and cut horns in hat (can´t find any pics for it).
This is why people hate Tevinter, Dorian.

I know which one you mean. With the mask they look like a demented Mickey Mouse. I like Tevinter fashion, well the concept art for it.

Tevinter is fine. You're pretty much better off no matter what walk of life you're born in to. In the south you're pretty much screwed if you're anything but a noble.

Isn't that giving them way too much credit? They are all bark and no bite with a history given to them by other in the distant past at best.

Spoiler
Fair enough, about the coolest/stylish part. But on the real... Tevinter is probably the most popular topic when DA4 comes up. Even before DA:I's release. There's a reason for that.
IMO If I could forge Tevinter into a better empire and use it to reconquer the continent, then I would be more than satisfied with the Dragon Age series.

I don't see that happening when there have been maybe 4-5 'Vints who haven't turned out to be cliched stage villains of one sort or another.

So what? Loghain was the villain of Origins and he shows up a hero in Inquisition if you gave him a shot. Besides, BW's probably tracking popularity and the Imperium is pretty damn popular.

Except there were no Loghain-level villains among the 'Vints. Just a bunch of Howes.

WHAT about Tevinter is even WORTH redeeming?
I think this is one of the biggest flaws in the game, that Dorian's desire for Tevinter's redemption flies in the face of the consistent picture we get of it that the only solution seems to be to burn it to the ground and start from scratch.
I will agree with your second paragraph: there is little in the games to endear anyone to Tevinter, except for the sole exception of Dorian himself (and the argument "well, he's a decent guy" doesn't really work for a whole civilization).
As for what's worth redeeming? Easy.
-- Intellectualism. The two most scholarly cultures on Thedas are the Orlesians and the Tevinters. Both of them could sound repulsive to a modern-day player, and even to a Thedosian, because of their value system. But notice most codex entries are either written by Orlesians or Tevinters, with chantry scholars and dwarves coming next behind. But certainly if Minrathous burns, so does a collection of books similar to what was lost with the fall of Constantinopolis.
-- Magiclal expertise. As Dorian laments, blood magic is common but not everyone practices. The Pavus family certainly had a lack of regard for it. But if you take away the hyper-competitive thirst for power which is usually what drives blood magic, you're left with a society that can do wonderful things with magic because they haven't let closed-mindedness and fear stop them from research.
-- Achievements. The greatest achievements of the Imperium -- such as the towers of Minrathous and the Imperial Highway -- came in the ancient days with dwarven expertise, but the society that knows how to maintain them is worth keeping around.
-- History. The Tevinter Imperium is the connection to the original human societies.
-- Minrathous. The greatest city in Thedas should not be allowed to fall.
-- An electoral government. It's unclear whether or not the archon is hereditary, but there is definitely an electoral aspect to choosing an archon (perhaps in absence of hereditary candidates??). The Imperial Senate has a quasi-hereditary upper house (Magisterium) which legislates and an elected lower house (Publicanium) which carries out those laws. Better than feuding banns or an absolute monarch whose court wields corrupt influence on every policy.
Tevinter's cardinal sin is the obsession with power. Remove that somehow, get rid of that incentive to experiment with blood magic and to find every way to destroy one's rivals and you have a society and a system worth saving.

3-4 mustache twirlers who may or may not have been magisters. Out of a population of how many? Even looking at other fantasy IP's the Empire that brings enlightenment and civilization and blahblah to the world always starts with a bloodthirsty warlord/conqueror at it's head. I'd like to be that guy. Maybe I start off ruthless and once Thedas is mine I'll go benevolent.

I agree with this except for the fact that I don't believe that blood magic is inherently evil. It is how ever easy to be corrupted by the power it grants which is where it's true danger lies.
