We can only carry two potions at a time so playing higher than routine one game will provide enough Gold to buy a large chest (or pretty close to it if you loot the treasure rooms). Usually I get at least three Health Potions in a large chest. So for a while I've had the maximum 255 HP and all the others just go to waste. Can we get other potions or tonics once something hits maximum. Or have chests without potions.
Health Potion chest drops need tweeking

I believe it actually goes over 255. I've never noticed it drop under that number when I use health potions, prior to purchasing chests.

I agree saberacer, this was working in ME3 MP, they should sort it for DAI MP, so many wasted potions.

Health potions are the new Explosive Ammo.

I think Kenny maybe right.
I've used a couple of health potions and after the game checked 'em. I still had 255 left. This was on a new days session and without buying new chests first.

They definitely do not cap at 255 internally.
I wish they did, and then when a potion is RNG'ed, it would be forced to give you one of another sort which is under 255.

Cap isnt 255. It continues to count beyond what it shows you.
Same with crafting materials.
I wonder what the real cap is though.

It doesn't matter if the cap isn't 255 imo if they keep piling up. They are wasting chest slots if there will always be more than enough. Please consider converting some of them to other useful potions or raising the the healing potion cap in the future.

I just want the damn things to actually give me full health. I normally save them for the last wave but they are only moderately useful.

I love when you use one to keep yourself alive and half a second later you get hit by some arrows and you are right back down to where you started from.

Yeah forget about this. Especially on my warriors classes who have a ton of health, healing potions only restore like a third of your health when you are high level. And your health drops just about as fast on perilous as other classes.

+1 +1 = +2
Like a medigel from ME3MP. Would be awesome to self-revive—and to full health—with a short invulnerable period (2-3 secs). As it is the current healing potions help somewhat, but could be improved.
Just an idea, I would like to see more health potions scaling with difficulty (ie. Routine = 2, Threatening = 3, Perilous = 4).

Why even buy a potion chest?
Besides, as other people say 255 is not the cap - it is just the largest number. Items keep accumulating after that.

They end up being more useful for clearing CC or getting up off the ground than for actually healing.

This is really more an issue of L2P than anything else. Bioware is clearly telling you that you're not taking enough damage in your runs. From now on, you should consciously take hits to bring your health down so you can chug potions. Strive for balance in all things, including potions. Don't let the 10% hog 90% of your inventory.
Also, many people don't realize the super-sekrit CC-breaking of Health Potions. When that DC screams at you, pop a heal and shout right back with War Cry. Who's the boss, now?

If it's not 255, the next "logical" cap would be 65535 or possibly 4095, if there isn't an arbitrary hardcap enforced by the game otherwise.

The safest thing tends to be setting an "arbitrary hardcap". If you just assign a set chunk of memory without "arbitrary" conditions, you run the risk of rollover, leading to either negative numbers or reseting the potion count. Doesn't mean that's what they did, just an observation on the programming side of it.
