Were dwarves and qunari worth it?

Everyone loves choice but I'm starting to think the game would have been better if dwarves and qunari were left out. Reasons include the amount of time and effort that went into making them work especially due to issues like height in cutscenes, being arguably less popular than humans & elves, lack of relevance in the story, their questionable romance compatibility with the LI's (nicely handled in Sera's case though) etc. There's no way of knowing what the tradeoff for having them in the game was but I'm sure it would've added to my enjoyment of the game much more than playable dwarves and qunari did.

Thoughts?

I've absolutely never cared for dwarves but Qunari were absolutely worth it.

Yes, I mean they could have been better but yeah totally worth it. I feel like if they had decided to include them from the start rather than years into development they might have been implemented better though.

It was absolutely worth it for me. I've played twice so far, first time as a dwarf and second time as a qunari, and greatly enjoyed both.

To be honest, I can't think of anything that isn't in the game already that I'd trade playable dwarves for. (I might trade the qunari for a proper Tactics system, but resource allocation doesn't actually work that way.)

They are worth it. Dwarves would be more worth it, if we could actually romance a dwarf, since we can play as one, but not romance one. The closest is Lace, but she hardly counts as a romance. BW actually has to make it go somewhere for it to be a real romance.

The only character that even seems viable as a romance option for a dwarf is Blackwall, and that's only because of his beard. At least with elves we can romance an elf-focused character in Solas. Varric can't be romanced and is as far removed as a dwarf can be, while still being part of the dwarven merchants guild.

There's a very strong balance of humans, a decent balance of elves and qunari, but the balance of dwarves is lacking. We've never actually been to see the fabled "Dwarven Merchants Guild". We've met people from it like Varric, Bartrand, Worthy and

Spoiler
But we've never actually entered the guild or met the overzealous members that Varric prefers to avoid.

TL;DR

Dwarves need more story and romance time, but there's nothing wrong with playing a dwarf (minus maybe walking around with a bow on their back, which should be very difficult, jumping in the wilderness).

My Dwarf playthrough was among my best thus far...haven't advanced my Qunari far enough to say with certainty.  But glad Bioware provided people with multiple races to choose from since people have different preferences when it comes to roleplaying.

If you're gonna leave out Qunari and Dwarves, you might as well leave out elves as well and go for a more personal story à la DA2.

Yeah, not so sexy now that qunari and elves also have a natural resistance to melee and ranged for the exact same amount. Their 10% magic resist was unique in Origins since elves and humans got nothing, but now, everyone except the ever-so neglected poor humans have perma 25% resistance to something.

I think the Qunari and dwarf choice were good, and needed. The game is very human and elf heavy, even Grey Wardens which can be any race and have known to be any race are only really humans in this. Where are the elf, dwarf and Qunari Grey Wardens?

Eitherway I think the inclusion of Qunar, which would have taken up lots of development time and resources even though there are only like 1, or 2, in the entire game is for the next game. More northern means more Qunari, therefore having a model they can base them all off can't be anything but good.

25% magic resist.

I know, I was referring to the amount they had in Origins, which was 10%.

No. I like that I can play a female qunari. She would be an Abomination to the Qun. Female who happens to be doing a male role. Check.  Not of the Qun, and never will be. Check. Mage. Check. Also I like that they made the Dwarf Cadash.

You probably can't meet Shale. If you do, she'll probably be Shayle Cadash/of House Cadash, since Wynne helped her reverse being a golem.

=O They should make her a romance in the next game!

I rolled a fem Dwarf quizzy and thought the game did a terrific job of reflecting that choice. Well worth it.

If we're going to include races based only on how popular they are, then we may as well go back to having only humans be playable (since they win over others by a landslide).

But yes, including Qunari and Dwarves was well worth it. Especially the Qunari who have never been playable until now.

Without question, it was worth it.

But I might be biased since I have 5 Inquisitors and three of them are dwarves and the other two are qunari.........

Played a DW dwarf on my 2nd Pt, was very disappointed its just a copy n paste of the human PT with one or two lines mentioning the carta.. Could have been so much more.  2/10

Haven't played one yet all the way through but have started a couple.   Absolutely worth it.   One of DA2 MAJOR failings was being limited to just humans, the LEAST interesting of all the races.

If anything I would have them take it a step further and add a greater difference in the game based on race.    I don't see me choosing a dwarf over an elf just because 2 or 3 lines are different, but if a lot more was unique then having 4 races would almost guarantee me 4 play runs right there.    The lack of Qunari armor variations and hair choices really limits whether I want to finish my Qunari character.   Playing the whole game in the same outfit is not appealing.    Thus I believe they would be better served if they FULLY implemented all 4 races rather than just touching on them, but I definitely prefer this to just offering humans.
