Making the Reaver work

Hello awesome forum ppl,

 

I've been trying to make a dragon rage oriented reaver work (and you know with a good maul, dragon rage does a crap load of dmg). So with the recent nerf to rampage, the reaver now needs a good source of healing.

 

I am currently running with a Dragon Rage, Devour, Rampage, Combat roll build mainly because I like the mobility and defense that combat roll gives especially as the host often times.

 

The problem is rampage and devour have difficulty stacking mainly due to lack of stamina. What is a good fast ability that can combo with rampage to provide quick reliable heals in battle? I've heard war horn might work but I am not sure. (trying to stay away from slow single target maul auto attack)

 

Thoughts ppl?

Passive ability to automatically crit feared targets

Passive ability to decrease cooldowns when you crit

War Horn -> Rampage -> Dragon Rage

that doesnt work anymore because u cant heal in rampage with dragon rage

It does if you have double superb HoK rings.

Of course if you're like me and have but a single 2% one?

No Reaver 4 U.

hmm, weird, am I bugged or something? Cause I am very sure i get no healing from using dragon rage now (just dont lose life in rampage)

If you have received the latest patch (third one) than Dragon rage with rampage does not heal anymore. This presumes that you will run into the middle of group and smash everything while likely getting hurt.

 

  • If you don't have HOK ring: Rampage, Dragon Rage, War horn (If the horn hits multiple enemy, it counts as multiple hit for healing, use it before RAMPAGE IS OVER).

 

  • If you have enough HOK and other healing bonus: War horn, Rampage, Dragon Rage (Basically nothing really change as you already heal from kills. You want War horn before, because it guaranties you critical hits and therefore reduces your rampage cool down by a lot)

 

Devour is more used for breaking a parry, block or when a single enemy is attacking you.

yeah I'm on the PC. Do you need the upgraded horn? and so horn will heal u when it hits anything (enemies) ?

Patch 3 nerfed dragon rage so it doesnt heal you anymore. Rampaging dragon rage just wont consume any health. 

 

I dont think consoles have patch 3 yet, so get your reaver fun  now while it lasts.

So the Reaver will be even less useful on something like perilous.  Of what I've seen neither of the two handers stands a chance on perilous unless they have a good barrier caster with them.   (For the average player, I understand the great players can solo perilous with a nug carrying a toothpick.)

Would be a lot more fun if I wasn't getting the broken rampage glitch. Nothing like sitting in a corner trying to not die after I become useless

Don't worry, the new patch will make you feel useless all the time on perilous!

Reaver is still fine.

You have to be marginally careful on perilous now, which is fine by me. Dragon Rage is still strong enough and fast enough to rip up every nonbrute / nonboss before they can react, so it's still more than viable.

I feel like the biggest problem was that they designed the game to function best with some type of tank, yet the odds of always having someone who can soak up damage and hold any type of agro is slim to none.

This is my finding after playing almost strictly reaver (12+ promotion) since patch:

 

Hard hitting single target weapon such as the maul is less effective than faster axe or long sword simply because of the animation and aoe damage. (This is when both weapons are close in dps but one slightly higher.)

 

Weapons such as the axe dragon hunter is way more effective because of the 5% extra dps for each enemy close to 8 meters. This synergise well with reaver as you usually smash huge groups of enemy. (Excluding sullevin and big bone massive dps increase)

 

HOK is must on perilous to be effective. Unless you play super safe and therefore wait for people to pull and hide behind corners for flanking.

This is what kills me, how can the MP weigh so heavily on if you have HoK or not

Its because of the massive health and damage boost the enemy gets on perilous therefore getting close is a big nono is there are range enemies.

 

Classes with rage  ability can engage from distance and negate it better.

 

If the game was designed right the health of class would have been determine by the type of the class and proportional to the nemy  so that melee class can take some punch on perilous but it is not.

That, and the agro behaves really weird.

Mobs run directly passed my Lego, even after I've smacked them with my Thunderstrike.

Mobs ignore Counterstrike and Warcry.

None of that helps with the Reaver and Katari's squishyness lol.

Anyone else gotten to the point where they groan when either a AW or Reaver joins the party? 

I, until they un-nerf refuse to revive a Reaver anymore. They just drop so quickly on threatening.. I am there to tank and protect the squishies that are DPSing from range behind me.. I do not want to worry about the reaver as well.. seriously.. you are not a tank class anymore.. get behind me and kill anything that gets past.. leave me to be the wall of the party!
