I try them all but my go to is always a male mage. Pretty much doesn't matter what game. I first learned RPG/battle games on a male mage, just my thing I guess. Here, not being a mage just doesn't fit in my head. How could a non mage not totally freak out over the Anchor? How would a non mage even begin to think of how to wield it?

I think the first five minutes of the game explained it rather well. Hint: Solas.

My first character in any game is usually (if available): elf or human female, red hair, green eyes, freckles if I can--ranger or tank. Except WoW. Then it was blue-skinned blue haired she-elf.

Because I'm a cliche, apparently. While not an elf, I have red hair, green eyes and freckles. :D

Number 2 character, if not a dark-haired female warrior, is usually a Mediterranean or darker-skinned bloke with black hair who looks suspiciously like Shemar Moore, if human. Or is an elf who reminds me a lot of Jo Fiennes.

As a side note, I really miss Aaron Gend.

When character creation is in player hands, you can't really control what kind of characters they make. You can only give them the option to make more diverse characters, which DAI does superbly. The game world offers a nice mix of NPCs, though. The only complaint I have is that when you meet Bonny Sims in Val Royeaux, she has very dark skin and dark hair, but when you meet her later, she's a fair-skinned blonde.

The one in Val Royeaux isn't "Bonnie Sims", would be the probable reason why. Her name's "Belle."

Hey, my generic video game protagonist looking guy is super gay. Don't lump all generic video game protagonist looking guys together.

Seriously though, diversity and representation doesn't mean that those characters have to stop existing, just that they should be the only archetype offered.
