You know I was wondering how much cash they actually pull in from platinum in DAI, probably a lot higher than we might think based off that number.

Only from people with daddy's credit card. Anyone who works for their money is gonna want more for their dollar.

They tricked me into buying a bit at the start before I realized how much of a waste it is.

Or maybe they should toughen up. The internet is a rough place, especially gaming forums. Maybe Candy Land is hiring.

What they need to do is hire a Community Manager. Having communication with the fanbase and active moderation (as opposed to drivebys from the botmods) does help.

is this why MP is crap?

Soo, freakin glitchy I think I'm done.  :(

I suppose I shouldn't care, but I need to point out that I explain how this is a misunderstanding only four posts above that one.

To me, the best way to handle a gaming forum is to delete posts that go too far, temp ban people that go too far and perma ban repeat offenders. Do that and your forums will become as hospitable as a gaming forum can be.
Another suggestion would be to create a forum where players are allowed to trash talk each other and get it out of their system.
I miss the days before political correctness and "internet bullying." Some of the most fun I've had in gaming was trash talking other players on the Ultima Online forums back in the late 90s and early 2000s. Best part was, people looked at it as gamesmanship and I can't remember anyone taking it too seriously. We're raising a generation of wusses who can't even handle some trash talk. That should serve them well in life.

Are you calling him crazy? How dare you, you don't even know Jeremiah. I can't believe the ignorance on these boards. This is bull****

Just the talk. The rest of Jeremiah is probably perfectly sane. Maybe. Probably not, but maybe. Oh,  f**k it, he's nuts.

UPDATE JAN 27: There was a small update for PC players on January 26th, with the following 2 changes:

  • Fixed an issue with crafted shields and armor values
  • Minimized the occurrence of MP Key Drop issue

Well at least we know what it was at last.

Even nicer that we didn't have to wait any longer for it too.

I'm curious if the armour value fix is the one introduced in the DLC or just the Assassin armour being zero rated.

I've still not experienced the key glitch since Patch 3 arrived, I have noticed additional spawns coming from behind tonight, hey but if it fixed the problem I'm happy.

While some moderation is needed, there is a huge difference between censorship and conforming to the rules. I still feel we need a community manager for the multiplayer content of Bioware's games but when admins/moderators stop in, censor/ban and then leave for days/weeks at a time it does nothing to improve the community. In fact, I feel it leads to even more disdain and hostility among the community. I do agree about too many people not being able to take criticism well though, even when it is founded.

I think the "crafted shields and armor values" applies to the campaign, since MP doesn't allow for crafted shields or armor.

I was thinking along the lines of a CM who is a forum regular. Also, notice I said "goes too far." Bottom line though - you have to censor gaming forums or they become useless in regard to improving the game. I also believe that moderate moderation (eh?) from launch would have prevented some of the recent bans. We'd have seen the line and known not to cross it.

Since several people have sort of half-answered this, I'll go ahead and clarify.

Part of Dragon Age was built on work that was cannibalized from a cancelled project that was MP-only. However, the project in question was not Dragon Age: Inquisition*. Of all the parts of Dragon Age, it is the oldest. That is the source of the misunderstanding that spawned the rumour that DA:I was begun as a "multiplayer-only" project.

Dragon Age: Inquisition was green-lit in 2011, with the full intention of continuing the single-player experience from Dragon Age 2. At that time, they incorporated the work done on an abandoned MP project, that pre-dated Dragon Age: Inquisition.

*Edit: I must confess, I hadn't realized that the originally cannibalized game had been intended to tie in with the Dragon Age franchise, but it actually had been. However, it was from before DA 2, and had nothing to do with DA:I, other than to have components of it incorporated into DA:I after it was cancelled.

I may have to quote this many times in the future as a canned response to the tedious, tiresome anti-MP trolls who seize on any scrap of rumor or innuendo to blame MP for a BioWare game's perceived failings.

So...what you're saying is DAI started as MP only? Gotcha!!

People are still blaming ME3 multiplayer for that game having a shitty plot. They'll never stop.

The only issue with censorship is that unless it is based on defined rules, it easily results in an exploitatiion of power based on ones' perception of the events, which always includes bias. As neutral moderation is impossible by most people, the result is a need to conform to the rules as strictly as possible. This would at least keep everyone in line and avoid situations where individuals would feel they have been treated unfairly compared to others. Again, I agree that proper moderation should be a constant as opposed to something that occcurs infrequently. It's hard to be told that you violated the rules when 90% of the time no one cares when you do. This is the disdain that I was referring to.

Bottom line is that a community manager is needed and Bioware/EA has more than enough money to hire one.

Those people are wrong, because the MP made ME3 worth your money.

What's your stance on fun around here? Is it allowed? Or would you brutally subdue any attempts to joke around?

A Community Manager's job isn't to disseminate information about patches or development, so that wouldn't actually change anything, or result in any kind of increase in dev interaction.

The decision whether to inform people about things isn't made by a Community Manager.

No, but the community manager could make sure that the proper parties are aware of the desire for that information and also provide a discourse with the community instead of having these drive-by moderations or unofficial, off-hour employee posts that we are getting now. Creating an official channel for communication will go a long way even if Bioware wants to keep communication to a minimum. At the very least it would provide a constant and consistent form of moderation to make sure this community remains constructive and in-line with the rules.

Anonymity would be 100% necessary.
