Well I'm not in the US, so that might be easier to arrange a play time.

My time zone is GMT+1 CET. So India's is GMT +5 1/2 (Thank you google) and you play after 7pm which is after 1.30 pm for me. That actually suits me perfectly on some days when I don't have school to attend. However, I do have a ton of homework, so I won't be able to make it an every day thing. I will check out the server on Wednesday 23/9 since I don't have school that day. Hope to see you than.

So here are the two main issues have with Alangara so far:

I'd generally agree with what you wrote overall (both positives and negatives) but would like to at least add a third -- the lack of higher end content, at least for solo players or small groups. I think my highest character (which I also think was the highest level character, period, on the server at the time) was level 27. In general, I found the first, oh, dozen levels quite fun. Even getting up to 15-18 wasn't too bad. Things just became a slog and an XP grind at that point, though, even with me soloing areas meant for groups to do some of the precious few quests at higher level (and those quests had devolved from more interesting ones at lower levels to "Kill 100 (not kidding) of a mob").

It was about a year ago that I was mainly playing, I think. I got some friends to play with me as well but they started to feel the grind even sooner than I did (I have far more tolerance for that sort of thing than most people) and I couldn't even assure them of things getting better later on.

I dunno. The first 15 levels or so would rate among the best experiences I've had on PWs gameplay wise, the scenery/world design would also rate among the best I've seen on PWs, and the world has a lot of potential overall...but the longer term stuff would need some major work.

However while I played there, I was the only player on the server, which made me feel lonely at times. I did meet the dm once, and she/he was very friendly and helpful. The server would be more fun with more players around, since the higher level quests were designed for parties.

Yes, that was also me shortly before you started playing.

Including tarashon, we have a potential party of four, which can be a lot of fun.

I'd potentially be willing to play as well if the times work. Still feeling burned out from the grind last time I was there, though. You know those forge tokens you were mentioning? I ground out enough to add five different damage types (Piercing, Bludgeoning, Acid, Sonic, and Cold -- then Fire was added via Flame Weapon, Slashing via Greater Magic Weapon, and Electric via a boss drop) which cost 2 + 6 + 10 + 14 + 18 = 50 tokens alone for just the weapon. Needed more for the rest of the gear, of course.

Here's a little tip, though -- because of the way the calculation works, adding *any* property to a plot item (which means vendors will offer 0g for it) always costs 1 token, no matter how strong it is or how many other properties are on the item.

Sorry for the delayed response. I'll be on today as well at the time I've posted, so I'm looking forward to seeing you there. And sorry about assuming you were in the US; Euro times are so much more convenient to arrange things, aren't they?

@MagicalMaster: Yeah, I found out about that yesterday, regarding the cheaper costs for enchanting quest items.

And I've only just hit 22, so I'll be finding out about the content issue you talked about (though tarashon has, to his credit, has been upfront about that point, but for now I'm not concerned about it). I know he has been working on some new content though, so that's a plus.

Let us know you're timings. We can work something out easily enough.

It's probably be easier for you to give me general time slots you're hoping for and I could tell you which work for me. Schedule and availability can vary wildly day to day, CST in general though (middle of US).

Heyas!
US- Central Timezone player here.
I currently play Jes , the good natured brass-dragon disciple ... still under 10th atm, lol.
I've already helped contribute a few things for the module.   wanted to touch on a few things here:

Role-Playing -  The way this module is done, it can be how you play that determines your specific involvement of the entre realm.
I am uncertain of an "over-all" plot at the moment, but I could say the Forces of Darkmor are probably not friendly to the Balder Alliance at all... lol.
Besides, that "open-ness" leaves a lot of room for DMs to elaborate on DM quest and plots.

You -can- just go gallivant about, and kill things, complete the "quest" ... and not "RP" at all.
But, taking the time to enjoy the server fully, just look around!
There are NO shortages of interesting , and I will say, beautiful places to sit and relax, and just RP ... You can also put things you find up for sale n a board, or hang about in town in the Plaza and try to hawk your goods.
RP-ing on the way to and from, and in-between battles is always more preferable than just silent run-in and hack at everything.

I came from a  super-duper " Hard-core" RP server before here ... and I LOVE the more relaxed atmosphere this system on Alangara offers.
The starting quest ... I did not find that bad as far as "running around" went.
I rather enjoyed the second ( pipe buying ) quest, because it allowed me to shop first, get some custom looks from the hot babe with the clothing designers.  The basic "run around" gives players a familiarity of where the starting areas needed are located.

It's easy to start off here and get established as a character.

I admit I was put off a tad bit at first because of the class option restrictions ( as some of my favorite classes are included in that list, lol. ) , but then again ... since I've been playing , the actual class-banns aren't that bad really.
Secondly on that aspect, you `could` build the same types of characters, given RP, looks, and class choices/options that are available.

I did want to point this out though:

Well, it did not "copy " ... grrr ...
Anyways someone mentioned a "fast way to get back to party" ... that would be nice, in case you crashed in the middle of a long adventure, and no DM is on to help port ya around.
A widget with the Option to TP to Party Leader ... would go a long ways.
But it isn't absolutely necessary, just would be a nice feature if able to have.

I've found the server to be up to standards and surpasses many other long running "PWs" out there right now.  Very few have the looks , got things to do so you aren't bored.

I like the way the scalp drops go myself.
Yes this means you need to "repeat" the area a few times if soloing ... or possibly even so if "partying" with others.  By the time you get to those "side quest" , you shouldn't be gaining things that fast anyways.  It keeps the playability of certain areas in the level ranges you should be in.

Remember, this isn't just "NWN", ... it's also DnD ... and in traditional DnD, your party wouldn't be going out, getting a handful of scalps in one run usually either.  They'd have to come back to the town/villiage/city/camp ... and rest up. Memorize spells, identify things, sell loot , divvy up treasures, rest and recuperate.   Then they could get back to task on hand.
So, I think personally, having to revisit areas a few times, run around getting the mobs ... if it takes one run fine. If it takes three or four, so be it.  Eventually , you will get there, if you stick at it.
Plus the more you do a scalp run ... the more gold per kill you gain to, and that helps later on. ( some things are uber expensive! )

 We need more players too!
I think it's a waste of time, playing NWN single-player , and not with others ...  I am good with everyone else being in other countries, lol.  Though it would be nice to have a few US players , I can play with more during the week too.  ;)

As for the teleport back to party after crash isues...

Well we have 2 different systems in place for this...

1.

Reborns actually have the ability to contact people via telepathy and then summon them to their own location once per rest, as an ingame power. ( works via summon party script ).

2.
We do have an Out Of Character summon party teleportring that we gave some trusted players back then, and so can do again in the future. However giving this out holds alot of potential for gametechnical abuse ballancewise when it comes to fighting the bossmobs so it was only given out to trusted players. How to then become trusted is indeed a good question but apearently it succeeded for many people back then so I reckon it might also happen in the future ;)

As for you contributions by all means keep up good suggestions etc. Whereas I obviously implement things on my own 2 persons usually have more imagination than 1 basically meaning that player suggestions tends to make for better PWs or Campaigns and modules etc. And in Alangara we have always been very open to suggestions as long as they did not disturb class balance ( negatively anyways ).

Slowly mowing towards the introduction of a new highlevel quest- and storyline also some lowerlevel areas have felt the surge of power and fertility in preparation and anticipation of "Gaia's Rising". Below some teasers for the 2 newbie quests from Ralfe's Botaniqa in Castle Balder. Seeing all the new updates to Alangara is really breathtaking!
Tarashon has done a really good job renewing the old areas in the sewers, as well as most of the original areas.
I've been playing since the server re-opening, and seen the changes first hand.

'd love to see more players experience Alangara, especially with the new improvements to the early-game leveling, as it's become increasingly easier to navigate, and know where to be (navigating is still hard, it's a big world after all. A big beautiful world!)

On a side note; I usually play during the 7pm - 23pm hours, GMT+1, but with my current job, I'll be randomly popping in every now and then.

Greetings all :)

One of the major isues we have had both technically and ballancewise have been our magical forge allowing for custom creation of items, weapons and armors. We ( Seeker our scripter and co-owner ) have now managed to rescript the forge into a brand new system of fixed token prices depending on powertype and number of previous enchants. This means alot of troubles should now be history only, or at the very least will be a most near future :)

Also armorclass enchantments have had their cap raised to +6 at level 25+ while others are limited according to level 10=+3, 15=+4, 20=+5 and finally for now 25=+6. This should make for a more fluent level progression and better balance along the road.

Weapon type also decides how many and how strong damage enchants together with some bonus options for certain classes.

We are very thrilled with this and looking forward to see the player feedback as we continues forward ...

Kind regards.

The stories continues and expands and the plots thickens in the Inner Realms. The first 3 direct quests with according areas have manifested for the "Rise of Gaia" questline.

Aid an old spirit and servant of the lost Earthmother of the Moonshae Isles ( from the trilogy book series ) redeem and awaken his dead goddess in the Inner Realms, and venture even deeper below the capital of Continenta; Castle Balder in search of answers, gold and glory !

As the "Rise of Gaia" storyline expands so does her influence in the Inner Realms and not only the abandoned sewers but now also the normal ones are being taken over by nature itself, apearently oblivious to the needs of sun and light for plants and tress to grow...

Howdy folks icon_e_smile.gif

After some hints and help on the community facebook page Alangara have been upgraded with a brand new custom AI.

Basically this have ment some extraodinary changes in creature behavior and it will make combat extremely more interesting in the future. Going down through the normal sewers in Castle balder alone was a completely different experience, first with the ratman actually using stealth sneaking up on you or your companions. They are also so sneaky now they dont just go for the front person. some of them sneaks right past you and attacks henchmen behind you. Awesome !

Coming to the mystics was an incredible and gamechanging experience. From their former singleminded attacking with magical missiles they now summons creatures, henchen and use various spells such as darkness. Suddenly I found myself surrounded by various imps- and beholder familiars going in the darkness etc. Nothing short of an amazing gamechange I should have implemented ages ago, but now its done...

This will likely mean massive changes elsewhere also very likely meaning a lot of tweaks in the upcoming months in regards to spells and more class variery. Since the monsters acts way smarter now it gives me an incredible array of customisation and variation in monsters class and power composition to make each area more unique in its encounters. I am certainly planning on tweaking much more for variation. So that fx some areas will be pain for casters due to monsters using dispells and others making the singleminded scimitar weaponmaster cry like a baby as the monster cares naught for feeble slashing damage etc etc.

If and when you encounter something that is completely overkill on the monsters please report it on the forum. Starting to use their artificial brainies might mean some creatures suddenly become much more powerfull and thus unintentional dangerous for its area and level range...

All this being said enjoy the changes - they are simple fantastic icon_e_smile.gif

Ps.

4th quest with corresponding area and new mob and reward drop type added to the "Rise of Gaia" quest line.

Greetings all and "welcome" to the biggest update of the Inner Realms in a long time !

So let’s get started with the long list of news and updates :)

Completely new, unique for Alangara, custom healing system, redoing all healing- and regeneration spells.

All healing spells now develop up til level 40 and progressively grow in strength ending with the heal that is also level based and thus heal a certain amount per level.

This is combined with healing received bonuses for various classes or combinations here of , basically meaning that a barbarian will receive considerably more healing from a given spell than a wizard would.

Regenerate and monstrous regeneration are hour based i.e. long duration and also dependent on class/classes of target.

Ship travel is now a real thing on a real ship, with custom scripts and designs for Alangara.

Welcome to a journey of custom scripting, entertainment and literature about your destination continent ...

Teaser.

[/URL">http://ship.jpg[/URL

Knowledge and entertainment in Castle Balder.

The Balder Museum have a brand new additional exhibition hall, redesigning the experience of where and how to learn of the dangers and splendors to come, without actually being in harms way. And at the same time a great settings for immersive roleplay.

Teaser.

Or prefers perhaps a visit the brand new Aquarium instead, also offering low level quest with more to come…

Teaser.

Random semi-bosses, worldwide spawn.

The Inner Realms are now being haunted by the socalled Touched or even worse Furious Touched. Basically all encounter may spawn these more powerfull versions of the native creatures to spice up any adventure for experienced and epic alike. ( They cant spawn in the beginner areas )On a brighter notion they are courteous enough to bring along extra loot !

Updated player powers…

To battle these new horrors the champions of the Inner Realms have been given various new tools and powers. A series of weapon energy type buffs ( like flame weapon ) are now in place for all casters and semi caster of main classes, and assassins and blackguards have joined the illustrious club of owners of a special type of damage to buff themselves, creatures or other players. These buffs also works on creature weapons or the druids natural attacks in wildshape.

And speaking of which, wildshape has also been customized so it will bring over all powers from all gear, armor, weapons…

Besides this and naturally the now far superior healing potions and spells – all are far superior except heal/mass heal/Greater Restoration – several new damage spells have been updated for superior damage and level range…

The Arcane Archer now may summon and command the legendary celestial Spear Maidens, much like the bard may call upon the legendary Valkyries.

Atmosphere updates, continental consistency.

The various continents of the Inner Realms have had a thorough look-/make-over regarding their skybox and light settings, making the continents more consistent and exceptional from each other.

Also upon a player request halflings ( called Balderlings ) have gotten their own district in Castle Balder, with special designed (player)houses interior – one can of cause as always choose to design ones own house !

Creature powers and how to die in many different ways J

Battle and combat is indeed a huge part of the life and death in the Inner Realms and after having the brainies of the inhabitants increased ( new AI ) lots of areas have had their spellcasters called in for a spelltype check. This has now been complimented with brand new types of creature powers making their death another danger to those close….

In order to lure poor and ignorant optimist adventurers out to their eminent death several new areas and quests have been added since last update here.

Teaser.

More flexible adventuring.

All these goodies obviously beckons the brave and the foolhardy to venture out in the wilderness in search of fame and fortunes. This has been made more available in 2 ways.

First of, the XP penalty from dying has been halved making it top at 1250 XO at level 25, and if you get a resurrection ( scrolls are available for all ) you will have lost but feeble 125 xp !

A “PC Scrying Device” has entered the module, making it possible to teleport to one’s group leader, allowing for friends to instantly team up , or returning to the adventure after having teleport back to town for supplies !

Finding the adventure…

Is obviously important and in order to make it both easier to navigate and more immersing to have a feeling of the Inner Realms New maps are being created of the various known continents. Obviously only what is visible and openly known are on such maps, that thus don’t reveal hidden caves or entire land systems below ground. Here one of Continenta – starting continent for new adventurers and main “hub” throughout all levels.

Teaser.

All of this making yet another milestone towards making “Alangara – New Dawn” a true contender to singleplayer modules, we have been blessed with new players, hoping that YOU might come to join them :)

As always we hope to see you in Alangara !

Greetings all :)

There has been several updates, fixes and spell/feat improvements since last update. New areas and quests etc. - More of this in a later update.

More importantly though we now have a small group of players, including myself starting to get near the epical challenges of the Inner Realms. Most also have alts so if you log on in euro or Canada evenings chances are now you will find someone to play with.

So if you are looking for new challenges and a server that is not afraid to "rattle the cage" on the mechanics of the original NWN to make gameplay and character classes more fun we whole heartedly invite you to come join us :)

New "Immersion tools" have been added allowing a DM to permanently turn player appearances into dynamic Brownies or Dynamic Wemics, thus making a player able to create a normal race character and then get it transformed into these races by a DM.

As always a whole hearted invitation to join us in the Inner Realms :)

Greetings all.

Due to a massive servercrash on the provider side, and a corruption of servervault and database, the intire servervault and database ( chests, farms and quests ) are now reset.

This in conjunction with a loads of planeed updates and changes means that we have officially now gone into BETA mode, making all new characters BETA characters that will MOST LIKELY be erased  when the server changes have reached such a level that I would deem it worthy and ready for normal release again.

As sad and annoying this is at least the serverhoster has now gotten brand new gear and server should be running at maximum smoothness and minimum lag, promising for a very good server once the changes are in effect and it is re-launched; not in beta state.

Also taking it into BETA stage will hopefully give me the time to recover from the latest stress and surplus energy to make the changes, basically all in response to player feedback.

Greetings all :)

Having been able to reset allmost all accounts the BETA phase is somewhat over. Over in the sense that characters made now will not be deleted.

We however remain in beta until such a time where the "story mode" package have been implemented, basically having a central NPC calling upon and guiding on the individual player to add an extra layer of storymode. This may take some time though as we are currently concentrating on develloping additional epic level content.

Without this however work continues in the Inner Realms, and here are a few updates worth mentioning ...

"Rogues delight"

Chests all over the Inner Realms have been littered with random art. Where as others may turn this in for a small bounty rogues and other personages having access to the thieves guild, may sell these artifacts for a far superior amount !

( technically these are no-drop so only rogue characters gains more since its impossible to transfer it to alts )

Traps have been DRAMATICALLY improved and made widely available to far better prices. This means rogues and rangers can now imply powerfull Area Of Effect traps with nifty damage and depending on types even options to temporally freeze ( petrify+visual ) or paralyze enemies.

In due time this will be enhanced further with crafting options of even more powerful versions and imploying new crops in the magical farm system of Alangara.

( It might be noted that rogues in Alangara also - via a few kb download file - have 1d8 hitdice together with bards, instead of standard 1d6. Wizards and sorcerers have 1d6 hitdice instead of 1d4. Together with special rogue powers adding +5 to hit and magical damage per 10 levels rogues are indeed becoming a powerful and versatile class in the Inner Realms ! )

"Epic journeys !"

Enter the Castle Balder "Royal Adventurers Society" as level 25+ where new and bold adventures and lore of the Inner Realms awaits to be unlocked, discovered and overcome. Visit the long hidden region of "Great Eastern Pines" and battle new foes and epic Daemons threatening to devour the Inner Realms.

"Hope is growing"

The Isle of Hope has reformed itself under the guidance of Lord Zertihn to embrace and inspire new and young adventurers of the lands alike.

Lots and lots of other small updates and tweaks have been done as well and the work and adventures continues. And as always a warm welcome to any and all who should decide to visit us or perhaps even setup home in the Inner Realms.

Greetings all :)

Where as I am personally taking a good long summer break from NWN and Alangara, I thought it might be interesting to share the news of our new custom designed and custom scripted Damage spell system for those enjoying playing spellcasters. I could not get the darn copy/paste to work so below a link to the information on our forum.

The new system offers extreme flexibility as can be read below including the ability for us to create items to bolsters specific spells ( some all ready exists )

Reading the below description will reveal how we can now change all spell damage, specific spells , caster classes spell damage or even caster classes per level to make fx the wizard stronger on low levels and weaker on higher or.... anything we desire, and in swoop also :)

http://www.alangara....25&p=1298#p1298

And as always a warm welcome to anyone who would like to venture forth into the Inner Realms :)

Kind regards.

Greetings all :)

After some .2da tweaking we are proud to present "monks in Alangara" , basically meaning that they are no longer disallowed. Players choosing the monk must download a micro file from our forum and put it in the override folder. This will remove the monkspeed feature gained at level 3.

On the brighter side the monks in Alangara gain a special monk power.

This power grants the monk bonus to-hit and magical damage no matter if using unarmed combat, melee or ranged weapons, ranging from +5 at level 1 growing to +20 at level 31+

Further specialties are sure to arrive as we will be taking a deeper look at both balance and "fun factor" for this newly re-allowed class in the Inner Realms. Enjoy !

And finally, as always, a warm welcome to travelers in the Inner Realms, new and old alike :)

Kind regards.

Tarashai stared down the strange glowing object, much resembling some odd gnomish version of a mandrel. As he pointed it towards his longbow it started to hum and vibrate with energy. Testing it further he pointed it close to other items such as his armor, belt and more; always the same result. As soon as the point came sufficiently near the given item the glowing and vibration began.

Not willing to risk his trusty magical longbow he reached for his sachel and took out a small magical dagger he had found earlier and not yet sold. Slowly he then entrusted the strange tool into the hilt of the dagger…

*zoinggg*

A small flash of light emitted as the mysterious contraption disappeared, leaving a small glowing recess in the fabric.

Being a fairly versatile and educated bard Tarashai came to think of tales from other worlds and how magical items functioned and were constructed there. A slight smile emerged on his lips. Once again he reached for the sachel, this time drawing out a small purse and emptying it on the table to reveal a multitude of very small gems. Picking one with a small symbol he enterpreted as some sort of armor he tried to move t closely to the recess in the dagger hilt. Nothing !

He then took one with a minute symbol that with a bit of imagination and a good deal of lore could resemble a spear enveloped by lightning. As he moved it towards the recess it too startet to glow. As he allowed it to touch into the recess the same flashing light emerged and the gem disappeared. Taking a good grasp on the dagger Tarashai smiled as minor electrical charges emitted from the blade. He took forth another similar gem and repeated the procedure and watched in delight at the crackling of the blade clearly grew more visible and powerfull. So this was the answer to the strange gems he had found lately !

Greetings all :)

Greetings all :)

The Heroes' Rest Inn now rents out persistent rooms with 25 item database chests, very cheap. Only requirement is for the character to be level 10 to actually enter the housing area.

This does not remove our custom housing and land options but merely gives new players a chance to get a small home and a database chest for storage fast and cheap. Also this is NPC driven so no admin or DM interaction is needed to gain this type of home :)

And as always a warm welcome to anyone who should venture into the Inner Realms !

Kind regards.

Greetings all :)

Alangara have gotten a new US based DM, BenevolentDevil, so now players playing mainly US evenings no longer are without DM assistance...

Also new players have graced us with their presence  and company lately, so things are spicing up in the Inner Realms and new adventures unfolds.

More special potions including immunity to critically hits and physical damage resistance scaled to different percentages for different classes have entered the Inner Realms. The custom system at the Royal Alchymist, includes these new potions, granting especially melee characters improved odds against the might of the epic monsters and bosses !

And as always a warm welcome to anyone who wishes to venture into the Inner Realms :)

Kind regards.
