Comparing this:

To this:

16188515038_f3a5dd0b09_o.jpg

The bow I just unlocked does less damage, and lacks the +15 Dexterity bonus.

But it does make stuff go boom for 75% damage. I don't know what the AoE of that ability is, but if it's big enough, it would probably be worth investing in the Trepanner's over the Icebow.

Anyone have much experience with the "explodes for 75% weapon damage" ability, and whether it has a significant impact on the game?

I like it so much I decided to finally post to extol its virtues.

In all seriousness, Requital is a fantastic bow. Despite its description, the explosion damage seems to be based off skill damage (try stealth Full Drawing something). I actually prefer it over Longbow of the Griffon outside of shotgun builds.

The explosion is also guaranteed, unlike Punched by the Maker.

Dat Longshot.

Edit: the aoe is large enough and the damage high enough that I think it might actually be the best bow in the game.

It's also spirit damage, and it's fun to make things explode. You can set off a chain of exploding baddies. I have it on a mace.

I never found it to work properly. I seem to always do way more damage with PBtM

Remember that your first bow has a rune and a grip. The Trespanner's Requital does not. It is great if you feel you play well enough to consistently get killing streaks. It falls off the more HP the enemies have, so it might not be jawdropping on Perilous, but it will be superior on Threatening. Do not scoff of the flanking and armor penetration bonuses either. Those stack up.

It is not comparable to Punched by the Maker, or Longbow of the Griffon on a Hunter, but considering the alternative is a rare... go for it. It is a good bow. :P

I have a rare Dwarven Mace (lvl 21 or 22) that has the explode feature.  Absolutely love it.  Rack up quick a few kills in Threatening with it.

Since these are bows, for straight up Archering either would do.  Personally I would actually go with Trepanner here (since I am a fan of these kinds of perks).  If flanking (ie Hunter), once again Trepanner.  Throw in a superb (or master) rune and a grip, and you got a decent bow there.

Trepanners Requital is clearly the 2nd best bow in the game .. you could argue it is the best for Routine and Threatening

Wait until that first time you use it on a large quantity of tightly grouped enemies. Full draw and you end up with a bloated kill streak off one arrow.

For example, say an AW uses PotA, then you happen to use full draw and get a critical hit, you'll be doing in the neighborhood of 4500 damage in a large radius

Edit - and it only does less damage because you haven't put a rune in it yet .. it will be like a 175 DPS with a +25 rune

Even on Perilous, it works wonders. A well placed Longshot will wreck the entire backline (archers etc). I haven't done actual testing on the numbers, but in my experience the explosion damage is taken straight from the exploded victim and applied in the aoe. In other words, using a huge stealth-Full Draw on a squishy (i.e. low armor) ranged demon causes a massive explosion that decimates the entire group.

If you can choose your target carefully for that one big spike of damage, the overall damage dealt is massive.

I was comparing the base damage, where the difference was fairly small, but I thought the +16% Attack and +15 Dexterity combined to add more raw damage overall.

I threw a Fire Rune into Trepanner's and took it into Routine since I was leveling up my Archer (he was level 4) and I didn't see any big advantages from it, but I was playing with a lot of high level teammates, and didn't get many opportunities to see it against groups of enemies. I'll definitely hang on to it, after what I've read in here, and will invest more in it going forward.

I suspect now that I've upgraded my Long Shot and Explosive Shot, I'll have a better chance to see what it can do.

If this is your first date with Archer's Lance (Long Shot's upgrade), keep a couple things in mind:

- The angle of bouncing is quite generous, maybe even 30 degrees, making for some physics-challenged, but satisfying ricochets.

- Each target hit by the bounces will be dealt more damage for each target hit prior to it. The simplest way is to just aim for the closest target to you, as long as it's positioned roughly between you and a bunch of other mobs behind it.

Once you have those two things down, you just have to press one button as you PuG through Perilous and just count medals at the end. Well, almost.

Flanking bonus, yes.

Armor penetration, not so much, the armor values in MP simply aren't high enough for it to matter much, even in Perilous, 18% armor pen is worth about 12 damage per hit tops, and usually more like 6-8 on trash mobs. When you can deliver hits for well over 1k, 6-12 extra damage is no appreciable difference. Best case, Leaping Shot on a Commander it's still only going to net you around 130-150 extra damage.

Trepanners Requital is clearly the 2nd best bow in the game .. you could argue it is the best for Routine and Threatening

Trepanner's is a contender at lower difficulties, but not "clearly".

Maker and Cruel Redemption can both clear a room with Long Shot/Archer's Lance in routine and threatening, and Grunsmann's gives Trepanner's a direct run for it's money due to it's +17% attack.

Long story Shot, regardless of whether or not Trepanner's is the absolute best bow, it's definitely up there and will solidly beat out the Icebow you're considering.

(Oh yes I did)

OH MY GAWD I'M GLAD I MADE THIS THREAD

THE KILLSTREAKS

THE KILLSTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAKS

Based on what people said in here, I went ahead and invested my only remaining Superb Fire Rune on it. The Grip I made was a bit lackluster, and I avoided spending much because I lacked the cloth for the Tier 2 schematic that I have, so I figured I'd just make a basic one with common stuff, and worry about making a better grip later.

My Archer was level 6, but had upgraded Long Shot and Explosive shot... and we got Venatori. I had a 10 Killstreak 3 times (I was disappointed that I didn't manage to connect a couple of them. :P)

The AoE on the explosion is much bigger than I would have expected.

It might not be the best bow, but is hands down the most fun/satisfying bow.

When I got it in single player, my fun went up three-fold with my archer inq.

Felt so good opening it in a chest in multiplayer.

Ive made a few videos highlighting this but the 75% damage is taken from the damage of the killing blow. For example, if your full draw hits for 8k damage, your explosion will deal 6k in an AoE. This works with the Templars wombo combo, which is why the dwarven crusher is my first choice on her.

TR is the best unique item I've found yet, so I'm pretty happy with it. I had Grunsmanns Bow too, but salvaged it....noob mistake lol.

I've only used it on Threatening so far, but it easily clears rooms with either the Archer or Hunter.

Archer - Archer's Lance from as far away as possible. Follow this up with an Explosive Shot, and watch the fireworks begin :)

Hunter - Leaping Shot from close range, follow up with Rolling Draw, Stealth, Explosive Shot auto-Crit from Stealth...fireworks :)

Or, agro a group of mobs, and run around a corner (Chateau is great for this). Kill them one at a time as they come around the corner. The explosion from the first kill will prime the next guy to be easily killed with 1 shot, which primes the next guy, etc, etc.

The obvious "key" to getting the most from TR is to make sure you're getting killing blows. If you're in a group where everyone is competing for/steeling kills, the bow will not shine, as it's somewhat low in the DPS department.

If you can get in a group that will let you use the bow to its full potential, it can be deadly.

Or you can PuG, be that d-bag Archer/Hunter that runs ahead, pulls an entire room just so they can get their gun off, and then let's everyone else clean up the mess.........the thing is though, if you play it right, with TR, you can clear an entire room by yourself, and be that d-bag Archer/Hunter that steals all the kills :)

If I ever come across Grunsmanns Bow again, in definitely going to keep it to experiment with that %17 Attack.

I love that bow. That bow made the Archers class fun for me. I actually got that before the Griffon so when I finally used the Griffon I was scratching my head saying 'that's it'. I don't dwell on the DPS numbers too much just as long as I'm having fun. :)

Trepanner is great, but having varied between this and griffons on my cookiecutter archer build, I get better results with a griffon than with a trepanners. But it's close though.

Trepanners is the best bow, I plan to switch to it from bow of the griffon when i get some more promotions. 1 shot an entire room on perilous even.

Don't you have like 50+ pluss in every stat already? I cant imagine you would need more. It's a bit overdoing it :P

heh, well the way I figure is that it takes about 4k~ dmg longshots to one shot most enemies on perilous. Once I can do 4k longshots with treppanners then it makes more sense to use it then a bow of the griffon. Im not there yet but close B)

It's a good bow. I stupidly salvaged mine when I thought a blue level ilv21 bow was better. Big mistake. I just hope I can get it back one day.

How were you ever able to salvage a unique bow, that is obviously one of the best - because you had a blue that had slightly more damage - is beyond me. Baffling. Atleast check the internet first before doing something that foolish!

I really hope you get it tough. I feel for you. Keep grinding! :)
