I was wondering if anyone had any good builds for an AI-controlled 2-handed companion (specifically for Cassandra, but not restricted to her). Because of the AI's terrible handling on some key abilities, 2-handed AI just seem to turn out to be a potion-guzzler.
Some comments/points to consider:
1. Charging Bull (a key ability for player-controlled 2-handers) is handled terribly by the AI, so this is a no-go. Whirlwind to a lesser extent is badly used as they don't spam it.
2. Turn the Bolt from the S&S tree seem vital for survability. Maybe Bear Mauls The Wolves too?
3. Combat Roll. Is this a key skill for the AI's survivability? The AI seems to use it well enough.
4. Unbowed seems necessary for the guard-generation without the aggro.
Does anyone have a build for a survivable AI-controlled 2-hander?
Cassandra as 2H dps isn't going to work even close to what a 2H templar can do in the hands of the player. Reason for that is that she will never use Wrath of Heaven + Spell Purge combo on her own which is what the 2H templar is all about. So to that end you are better of treating her as a 2H buffer instead. Getting Horn of Valor and War Horn while also using her to get the best out of rifts with multiple dispels.
Honestly that is the case with all 2H companions except the Bull. If you can get your hands on heal on hit and guard on hit masterworks Bull really shines as DPS since he will be a bit low on hp but that's beneficial to a reaver as he will do more damage. That requires some micromanagement however so if you don't want to babysit much I would treat all 2H companions as buffers.
Charging Bull is indeed terrible at the hand of the AI because they will just run so far that it's actually counterproductive to what you want them to do. As for Combat Roll, it's nice but I personally prefer to set Block and Slash on preferred while still getting Combat Roll. You need to have uptime as a warrior unlike the rogue which can burst evade and burst again.
Guard on hit is more vital than Unbowed which is still needed but at a lower priority, and if you can handle most of the necessary talents to make her efficient as a 2H and still get Turn the Bolt it sure helps but again at a lower priority.
Hope that helped a bit and good luck.
EDIT you could also tactically let her die at appropriate moments and then use either a fully upgraded Healing Mist or a mage's Revive to get full advantage of the Last Sacrifice buff which in combination of Horn of Valor can give you a whooping 100% extra damage for 10 seconds.
