Helps to know which class and specialization you are playing to answer that...
Generally, if you are a rogue or mage they shouldn't be targeting you in the first place. Equip your warriors with abilities to increase aggro and your rogues and mages with abilities to reduce it. A warrior should withstand arrows quite easily with guard and armour. Use stealth for rogues and step abilities for mages to break aggro with enemies. Sometimes the companion AI will mess this up for you anyway, so you might have to babysit your party to fire abilities at the right time. Try to time abilities that interrupt enemies for when archers line up their special attacks, because those are the ones that really hurt.
...and when in doubt, spam barriers...

These are excellent tips.
Also, attack the enemy's archers at the beginning of the combat. Something that I find useful is to freeze them + shatter ability for a good combo at the beginning, then they are dead with a couple of extra hits. Or you could use abilities for panick or sleep on them. If you are a DW rogue, kill them first (stealth + twin fangs and a couple of hits will do the job very quickly), and then attack the rest.

Do you happen to have anything with berserk on it (weapon or armor)? If so, that's why you are so very, very frail.

play as archer
there is a distance for most enemies before you lock on to them and before they attack that you can manually aim and hit them (they'll usually just stand there and die)

As others have noted, including your class and spec would help with more detailed advice. In general, though, warriors should draw aggro and buff themselves with guard. Rogues and mages have passive abilities in their various trees to help limit the threat they generate. Take these options early, especially on harder difficulties. Always target enemy marksmen first; they can be absolutely lethal.
Other options include changing up your gear. I generally farm for fade touched obsidian in lower levels and fade touched silverite on higher levels. Both of these metals provide guard with each hit. They are super useful on squishier classes, especially if you want to let the AI handle your party. Throwing one on the staff of your healer will definitely help keep everyone alive in the long run.
Also make sure you cast barrier on your vulnerable party members. Basically, buff early and be aware of the mob dynamic you're facing. Some enemies should be eliminated before others to make the encounter easier.

I would avoid melee classes early on. They just lack survivability early on. In general, it's just the overall worst place to be throughout the game and melee class survivability doesn't really scale with that increased danger.
If you're not familiar with the AI mechanics, then you end up getting shot with arrows, magic bolts, running over glyphs, being knocked down all the time and getting caught in AoE. While ranged classes don't really deal with much of that apart from the odd straggler who didn't get successfully taunted.
Knockdown protection skills for all melee classes would of gone a long way. The only one I know of that works reliably is Walking Fortress (which is a specialization skill). Bear mauls the Wolves in Weapon and Shield is a joke and doesn't protect against the knockback that really puts melee in bad positions.

Make a sns tank and take everything from the sns tree. Instant win.

Sounds like hes playing a mage and if so npc Archers prioritize the Pc Mage, so kill the Archers 1st, use range to your advantage, as you as a Mage will out range any Archer. Freeze+ Detonate usually puts them to bed quickly.

You might also want to tweak the AI settings for your party. Here's what it's like with the default AI:
Inquisitor: "Ok: Solas, spam Immolate on that Rage Demon. Cassandra, run halfway across the map and aggro every Bear and Druffalo you see until you die. Varric, just stand there and s**t Caltrops."
Everyone: "GO!"

Knight-Enchanter with the ability to generate barrier on hit. You'll never die.
Tip No:2 Select Casual Mode activate auto run, go to the pub for few pints.

I try to swap their AI settings from following controlled character to following themselves to make sure my companions are dealing with threats that target them, first of all, which seems to take some heat from you. Additionally, don't be afraid to run if you spot the archers approaching to shoot you. Outrange them so you have some time to have the tank fix things, or if you have something like Pull of the abyss to control them.
I feel like most times it works well to time the initial barrier cast just when your team is about to scatter on the pull, to make sure there is an initial barrier on everything while the tank picks up things. It might not last but it will give you more time.

If you are a dual wield Rogue switch to Ranged or Warrior, its just not worth bothering with dual wield in this game.

Best to start a rouge as an archer, respec to dual wield later in the game.
