I purchased the trilogy last night for ps3 after previously playing me2 and me3. I really enjoyed the story in 2 & 3, so I thought I would give the original a shot. I could not figure out how to change my starting class from soldier to engineer, which is my favorite class from me3. Did I miss something or is it not possible in me1.

Odd. Did you just pick the default Shepard? That may be the problem. Try a custom Shepard. Warning though: ME1 engineer is weaker than all the other classes. The engineer has no defensive power like the other classes, such as immunity for Soldier and Infiltrator, and Barrier for Adept, Sentinel, and Vanguard.

OK, I just popped in ME1 and sure enough: the default Shepard is the Soldier class. You need to pick "Enter New ID" and then "Custom" male or female. BTW: you really should come up with some name other than John or Jane. It will make importing to ME2 easier when you go to look for the character to import. Not important on the first palythrough, but when you have done a half dozen or more it gets confusing.

If this is your very first run through ME1, Hardcore and Insanity difficulties are locked, so Engineer's lack of defensive power won't be as painful.
