A player skill that very often isn't brought up... attitude.

If you go into the game thinking you will suck, then chances are you will. If you go into the game thinking you will fail, then chances are that will happen. Your outlook has an impact on your performance. It's also true in real life. People are generally more afraid of making a mistake or admitting to them than they are at learning from them.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. I just pulled an Amelia.

Good tips, Professor Motivator  :P

(and that's a phrase that's going to get traction...  :D )

  • Step 1: Have a good team
  • Step 2: Starts PuG game
Darn....

</p>

Playing with a team is not only better for the social aspect of gaming (which in itself is appealing enough since the game can easily get dull after sometime), but it is also safer in case there is a game breaking bug, connectivity issues or crashes. Also, playing in group you can do things like speedruns, 5/5 Lv 1 rejoins and all that good stuff.
I can't pug at all due to matchmaking reasons, but gladly I know quite many people who play Peri and I can regularly get some games going.
If you are on PC I can introduce you to some cool people.

Thanks  :D

On Xbox and with very chaotic time availability so I can only grab PuG games 'on the fly'

but I appreciate the thought.

Not necessarily, you didn't blame all the issues with other players on him.

It does. I got a 3% raise every year with the exception of one year where there was a hiring/raise freeze because of the ecomony and 5 promotions within a 7 year span at one company alone. Contrary to what Franklin says, the Power of Positive BS actually works. lol The only other good Perilous tip I can give you is if you don't find it fun then don't play it. Wait till you get a group of people who make it worthwhile.

Not necessarily, you didn't blame all the issues with other players on him.

lol That kinda falls under the umbrella of not willing to accept failure. Blaming others is a defensive mechanism, unless they're passing blame to use you as a patsy.

Well for me starting perilous was having good staff (at least lv 15 blue) then just pick Elementalist/Kepper/AW and played.

Learned how things works at perilous, then tried with other chars.

Had a game last night in which a legionnaire joined the group.  He was a pretty good and experienced player but he kept saying 'no worries this guy can't be killed'  Well guess what happened to him and the group on wave 5 of demons.

Thinking you are better than you are is just as much of a hazard as thinking you are not as good as you may be.

Also making mistakes and learning?  Had a game on the weekend where one player was berating another as a lousy player who shouldn't be in perilous because the guy admitted he had only played perilous a few times and was getting downed.  You are not always going to get a pat on the head for trying and failing in this game.

If you're a Keeper with Chain Lightning,

Don't use it. How many noobs keepers out there CL everything before the tanks/dps and get mowed down after aggro can't be pulled off them? All of them, that's what.

The only time to use CL is when they're safely CC'ed within your static cage, and AFTER your allies have already hit them. CL isn't an opener. It is a finisher.

Preferably, don't use CL at all, and stay out of line of sight. Barrier , Static Cage, and don't bloody die. That's the Keeper's role. Veilstrike for advanced keepers, but it certainly IS NOT DPS.

Sometimes, I do nothing but barrier and SC, and hide behind a wall. That makes me over 2x as effective as every mobile keeper out there due to winter's stillness giving me 1.5x bonus to both mana regeneration, and cooldown recovery for all spells, giving me 90% uptime for both barrier and SC, instead of dead allies and enemies running amuck all over the place.

I am also infinitely more effective than all the Keepers dead out there due to exposiving themselves to archer & horror fire to try to do minimal DPS from chain lightning.

If you're a new keeper in perilous don't chain lightning at all.

I berate people for whining, not learning and not willing to learn. Trying and failing, I praise, but I correct their behaviour with training. It is a headache sometimes to be around new players that can't play well at first, but also rewarding to see them do better. I would keep the guy who admitted he was getting downed, and show him where to take cover, what positions to take, where to retreat to, and generally what the battle plan is and how to respond to it.

The guy that is unwilling to learn and do all of the above though... the boooot!

... if you don't find it fun then don't play it.

Enjoyed gold on MEMP, so should be mostly about L2P.

That is pure wisdom mango.  I can attest to this through my own experience.  Attitude, how we talk to ourselves, is of the utmost importance.  There is an innocent and creative aspect of ourselves that listens to our every word, creating the experience of what we hold (believe) is truth.  "I can/can't"—simple words with profound impact upon self ability and experience.

Interestingly enough the AW has some lines in DAMP directly relating to this perspective.

I can honestly say I play better when I'm not nervous about the outcome.

this guy gets it.

See Robbie's comment. I'm talking about self-actualization, not personality traits (arrogance etc). Playing above your difficulty just means you're being an idiot. When I was farming Platinum I was being an idiot and so were the rest of my band of noobie friends. Eventually I got tired of farming and started playing more legit games. I got better faster than the rest of my regular teammates. Our first gold game together they were quite shocked to see me clutch most of the games. Eventually they got as good as me and we started playing regular Plat games. In the end, most of us really didn't see the big whoop about Plat and kept playing Gold. Gold/Plat were initially quite intimidating. I had all the gear to be a successful player. I was more nervous-wrecked.

Not listening to someone saying that you're not ready yet, you're currently under-skilled, or heeding advice means you're being an idiot. That's not to be confused with understanding yourself/knowing your limitations and outlook.

There you go.  Yes, it makes a different when you are calm and not concerned.  I remember having a lousy game of darts, and more I focused the worse I got.  Then I just stopped caring.  Wouldn't you know it.. couldn't miss.  It is amazing how we can limit (or not) ourselves through our minds.

I would recommend not trying a squishy dps in perilous your first time around. They tend to die very fast and not do very much damage without good gear.
