Mage-Templar arguments.

And would you still support the genocide if say a Ferelden refugee blew up the Chantry and Meredith ordered the death of every Ferelden in Kirkwall?

You are framing the question in terms that those who sided with the Templars have never supported.

Those who did so and who have posted in this thread, myself included, are not saying that a mage did this ergo all mages must die.

Rather, we are saying that a mage did this, other mages are doing this, Meredith is now doing this and thus we believe the best way tio save lives is to side with the Templars.

I'm glad that you're still around dragonflight and use the same arguments I first brought up back when I was active on here.

****** college man. And an inability to play DA on pc anymore thanks to dead USB ports. Who would play any game without a mouse that isn't a touchpad one?

I've been dealing with health issues recently so I'm not on as often as I used to be.

Just a brain tumor, nothing serious.  :P

And yes, I really do have one, I'm just making a joke of it.

They're sitting back and eating popcorn while watching the show, the show being the debate.

Interesting conversation between Roderick and Cullen in the DAI in Haven where they're discussing sending the Herald to Val Royeau for execution. It ends with:

...
Rodrick: What of justice?
Cullen: That won't restore order in the here and now.

Damn you spoiled it. But, not exactly what you're thinking (hint: go back to my earlier post, then read superdarkone's response to mine. Make of it what you will).

By the way, hope you get well.

I interpreted Meredith’s quick invocation of the Right of Annulment as a way to finally consolidate her power; with Elthina out of the way there was no higher power to stop her. And the cleric was taken out by an apostate. Useful to use as excuse. I thought she simply abused the situation Anders oh so helpfully created (I am not bitter at all...nope >.>).

I also felt that Meredith was always something of a control freak and felt that the only way to maintain order and protect, was by accumulating power and for her to lead. In her mind, she knew what was right, what she needed to do and also had the maker on her side.

When Hawke saves everyone at the end of Act 2 from the Qunari and the nobles ecstatic, Meredith does not look happy.
She probably wanted to be the champion, like she did when she disposed of the tyrannical viscount (according to the wiki she gifted Dumar the broken, bloody ring of the predecessor and the message that his fate could be different). Establishing and increasing her influence and power. But she could not change what had happened, so seemed to accept that Hawke saved the day.

I guess that Meredith’s lyrium imbedded sword  was not yet ready for use, or that she had not been exposed to it for a long time (assuming Bartrand sold the idol at some point in Act 2). By Act 3, Meredith would have at least had the lyrium in proximity for 3 years or more (Bartrand seemed to be highly dependent on it and crazy after 3 years or less.). Couple that with her need to stay in control and make the Templars rule, probably fueled her paranoia and her need to save and control everything.

I always thought it was stupid that Hawke did not become Viscount even when he or she sided with the Mages. As Pro-Mage, we begin the final chapter dealing with a plot by the nobles to unseat the Templars and succeed in saving them from Meredith's death squads. When that quest chain is over, I distinctly heard the leader say something along the lines of "we will fight with you when ready." Then.... nothing.

I mean, what better time to drive the Templars from the city than when they just sustained massive casualties assaulting the Circle and losing their leader? In this scenario, Hawke would have been made Viscount with the unanimous support of the nobles, rather than that of the Templars. The only problem this would present is that Kirkwall would be going against the Chantry, and Cullen would be in a less than favorable position leading up to Dragon Age Inquisition.

I was hoping it would turn out like in Starkhaven, what Sebastian told Aveline; Hawke would only have to take the reigns when things were going pear-shaped and otherwise just have the title, but let the citizens rule themselves.
