Way down in the Deep Roads Expedition is the only place I've ever seen Merrill deal with a demon with the right attitude. She'll say it can be dealt with safely with care, but on Hawke's orders will just blast it with prejudice.

Keep in mind that Merrill might agree with criticisms of the Dalish, given that she thought their spirit aversion was nonsense and that she was all about rediscovering ancient elven lore.

Never mind not having a character to support the inquisitor in dealing with demons how about giving us some more opportunities to make fun deals with demons in the first place.

Merrill gets criticised a lot for making deals with demons but the Warden and Hawke make lots of deals with demons and nothing bad ever happens so I'd say its pretty safe to make deals with demons. What's that? Bad things do happen when the PC makes deals with demons? Like small children getting possessed? Sorry what I meant was nothing bad happens to the Warden/Hawke. The moral of the story is if your going to make a deal with a demon offer up someone other than yourself to be possessed and everything works out fine ^_^ its good to be evil.

But I do miss Merrill she's easily one of my all time favourite bioware characters. She's something of a contradiction but in a way that makes sense. She's kind but she's a bloodmage. She prideful in regards to her magic and her search for knowledge but then she's self-deprecating about her social interactions. But mostly I like her because I think she has the best banters, she always makes me laugh. While Anders and Fenris spit hate and bile at her on a regular basis she never lowers herself to their level in fact she sympathises with them when something bad happens. I do miss having a bloodmage but I miss Merrill's personality more.

She also comments a few times on the Dalish's self-righteousness. There are several instances, but it's hidden in little tidbits of dialogue, like this one.

Hawke: I thought they were all charming. I was just thinking of inviting them over for tea.

Merrill: They would never accept...ah, sarcasm.

What actually happened with the mirror anyway? We know she cleansed it, but I think she does that during ACT 2, yes? At the end of the game you can tell her to destroy it or to keep it. Is it ever stated that she actually fixes it? If not, her arc is kind of pointless, but if so, I'd think that would have been a bigger deal.

She cleansed the shard before we meet her in DAII, actually. Originally she wanted to work with Marethari on them hoping their pooled knowledge and healing magic would be enough to cleanse it, but the Keeper refused citing the Taint as the reason why she wouldn't work with it. So Merrill went to Audacity to learn the basics of blood magic, because blood serves as an amplifier like lyrium does, and then cleansed it herself.

She then told Marethari that it was cleansed and they could work on it, and Marethari wanted to know how she did it. Merrill told her, and Marethari then believe the mirror "led" her to blood magic (which is BS).

If the mirror isn't destroyed, then it has a mirror image in the Crossroads, indicating that it is completely functional. Merrill just needs to find a keyword or phrase to activate it.
