Well is she clever enough to use dry humor and sarcasm in her second language, or is she not familiar enough with it to understand double meanings?

That statement isn't even true. DA:I, a newer source of canon, says most Dalish can't even form complete sentences. I doubt they talk extensively in Elvhen.

Even when Merrill ignores the first and knows next to nothing about the latter? Okay. Just let her run wild then.

I don't see how you can think that's the case when Eluvian is successful enough in constructing her Eluvian (from the lore she gathered and studied, and the knowledge she extrapolated from the shard) that it shows up in the Crossroads (and specifically doesn't appear if she destroyed it).

Actually, Lavellan can ask Solas entire questions in elvish, and completely understands a conversation between Solas and his friend when she speaks entirely in ancient elvish.

I still haven't gotten a confirmation that it is indeed her's, does anyone have a link to a dev statement?

Are you saying you think Merril was evil?

She's definitely on the evil spectrum(with her willing to sell a teenage boy to a demon and all) along with characters like Morrigan, Sten, Oghren, etc...characters who will approve of or encourage certain evil actions. I feel that none of the DA:I companions are that way though the advisors are closer to it since they're all on board with letting Celine die and Leliana is pretty evil depending on your choices.

I'm sure I heard that in DA2. I think Merril said it.

Merrill approves gaining intel from Torpor about the situation with Feynriel, not brokering a deal with the spirit.

Leliana supports Celene dying because it means Briala could help give the Orlesian elves a better future, and considering the purge of thousands of elven men, women, and children in Halamshiral, I don't see how this makes Leliana 'pretty evil'.

She also tacitly supports Gaspard in another conversation since he will bring stability

Now that you mention it, yeah, I remember Merrill saying it too.So, there goes that theory.

There are none. But I do believe that it is at least the spiritual counterpart of the mirror she took the shards from. It's merely a representation of the broken original, nothing more.

Not when Inquisitor Lavellan speaks elvish sentences to Solas, and fully understands Solas' friend speaking entirely in elvish to Solas.

and this is evidence for widespread use of the language?

People like DragonFlight tested it out, and it doesn't appear if Merrill's Eluvian was shattered. It's apparently not intended to represent the Eluvian from the Elven Ruins, but Merrill's constructed mirror.

You mean entire sentences, although you honestly don't seem to be very familiar with playing as an elven Inquisitor, given that you don't seem to actually know what I'm referencing.

I'd put her on the "ends justifies the means" sort of level though, and then only sort of lightly. She almost always hews towards being decent/nice towards people, and the Feynriel thing is certainly evil but by that standard everyone but Sebastian (who doesn't have a chance to be swayed) is evil. She certainly approves of actions that most characters consider evil, but for different reasons.

And an "ends justifies the means" character can absolutely be considered evil -- but I'd only put her partway on that path.

Phrases are usually sentences, but since Merrill herself already admits she can't, I'm sure you have an argument somewhere.

She also slits the throat of a chantry sister, has a man executed rather than arrested for treachery, and argues that the regular soldiers lives and deaths don't matter, and her talking about how she'd run the Chantry if she were divine is pretty scary. She does all that unless you pick the right dialogue option in one earlier conversation. I don't think either Merrill or Leliana are completely evil and sadistic, but they are a lot closer to it than the group of gentle idealists we seem to have in our DA:I party. I think the only evil moment I had with a companion in DA:I was Solas wanting to murder a group of mages, though he had good reason (unlike Morrigan wanting to annul the circle for instance).

I'm disappointed that we don't really have any good/noble vs evil/jackass choices in DA:I but rather equivalent A or B choices.

While Inquisition follows "The Stolen Throne" in having the Dalish speak elvish (since Lavellan speaks and understands elvish), so I don't see what your point is.

The point is every Dalish tribe is not the same and Merrill herself already admitted something. You have nothing to stand on. Just admit she really can be airheaded at times. It's really not that big a deal.

Doesn't mean it actually works though. It could simply be changing it's form to look like the inert one Merrill attempted to reconstruct.

The Dalish in "The Stolen Throne" explicitly state that the Dalish speak entirely in elvish with one another, and Lavellan uses elvish with Mihris, can speak entirely in elvish to Solas, and entirely understands Solas' friend speaking ancient elvish to Solas. Frankly, I don't see how you can say I have nothing to stand on when I repeatedly point out the examples where Lavellan clearly knows elvish, or how it was previously stated that the Dalish speak elvish as their first language in "The Stolen Throne".

Frankly, your condemnation of Merrill is also absurd when you're ignoring her accomplishments with magic and constructing the Eluvian simply to mock her for adjusting to an entirely different culture from her own.

If it wasn't an Eluvan, it wouldn't appear in the Crossroads. It only shows up as long as Merrill didn't shatter hers.
