Uh, no, we don't need some stupid naive elf that can't learn her lesson about blood magic.

You would say such a thing Maker, considering you're still pissed at the fact that Corypheus and his drinking buddies completely trashed your home during one wild party.

Merrill - the same chick that gives you approval points when you speak positively about blood magic and read the evil tomes. And disapproves if you destroy them.

My Hawke loved her but man was she daft. Good thing Hawke was able to get through to her.

She was able to get the taint of the shard, I wonder if she could've gotten rid of the gray warden taint with further experimentation

Solas has the same outlook on BM that Merrill does, and Merrill supports you reading the tomes because if you destroy them you're destroying knowledge. And she doesn't care for that.

And the fact is that if you have knowledge, dangerous as it all may be, you can rectify the mistakes of the past. Destroy it or bury it or ignore it, and it's bound to happen again.

Also the chick that managed to recognize on sight what kind of demons we were dealing with and give accurate defense strategies, able to tell if Keeran the templar-recruit is possessed by examining his blood rather than Anders "I'll blast him with magic and see if a demon defends itself or not" approach. Also the same chick who rebuilt a brand new eluvian and connected it to the crossroads by studying elven lore and extrapolating as much knowledge from an eluvian shard that she personally cleansed of the blight, and made every single precaution, even the possibility of her own death.

My Hawke loved her and recognized her brilliance, while also acknowledging she was suffering culture shock and had studied a different approach to magic and spirits than the circle teaches, and thus had different beliefs.

Maybe. It's worth a thought. In Dragon Age Origins, Merethari uses healing magic to try and cure the taint in the dalish warden, and Merrill in that origin says she knows the same magic.

Well, not quite. Marethari says Merrill knows the same healing magic. But that minor bit aside yes, as I've maintained there's a definite link between Dalish magic and the Taint if one was able to suppress the latter for three days in a living person, and when amplified with the power of blood cleanse a tainted fragment of an Eluvian.

Which jives well with Solas' comments on the Elves immortality. It wasn't a result of their magic, but rather due to it. Or something along those lines. Can't remember. Have a migraine now. Going to sleep now.

The Blight probably was created by elves (or morel likely their "gods") so there is almost certainly a link

Well, yes.

And to be frank, Merrill did go to Merethari and ask for help cleansing the shard of the taint, have them pool their magic, but Merethari refused. Merrill also says she could've done it without blood magic if she had lyrium but she didn't.

The fact that she even cured the taint at all is quite the achievement.

And good night.

Got oral surgery in the morning. Joy.  <_<

There's more evidence of it being created by the dwarves or tevinter magisters than the elves.

its off topic for this thread, but the evidence is there certainly.

It all goes back to what you think the Golden City was, I personally think it was the seat of the Elven Pantheon

but there's other threads for this or PM

*nods head*

Indeed, that's been the argument I've posited for many years now my friend.

Also I hope your surgery isn't too bad.

Well, I think the Elves might be responsible for the Taint as it might link to their immortality, and the PT Dwarves are responsible for the emergence of the Darkspawn/Blight and the corruption of the Golden City. And the humans are responsible for letting it spiral out of control.

If that's the case, then Sera will have a conniption.

But we could point out the red lyrium idol in the primordal thaig, and thanks to bianca we know that red lyrium has the blight, and we know in DA2 that darkspawn don't go anywhere near the primordal thaig so it's also possible that that is the birthplace of the blight itself.

Or it could have been the magisters like Corypheus being punished by the Maker for all we know.

all that indicates is that there was contact between the two.  The figure clearly depicts three elven figures on it, and I recall no end of speculation that the thaig might have actually been Arlathan.

We know the Elven pantheon warred between each other, and what weapon would be suitable to target gods and their followers?  The Blight might be used for that.  Corypheus even comments on how it was discovered and taken in by the magisters, not unleashed by them unwillingly.

Yes, which could point to either the dwarves or stolen elven technology/misunderstood magic after Tevinter enslaved the elves, or something that has yet to be revealed.

I don't see the dwarves creating it with magic since they have none, misunderstood elven weaponry would be consistent I imagine, the Magisters helping themselves to it but not knowing the consequences

F no, we don't need A Merrill. We need THE Merrill.

Hell no.

Merrill was the most annoying companion character Bioware ever created. I didn't find her buffoonery to be endearing at all.

Which is what makes her completely unsuitable to dealing with intelligent spirits, as the dangerous ones have a keen understanding of behaviour and politics. Pride and desire demons are all about manipulation. She treats all demons as if they're rage demons. But that's not a failing of her view on demons so much as it is her failing as a person.

I don't think it makes her unsuitable. As Dalish she sees them differently than human mages. She's also well aware of risks and takes pre-cautions, trying to only risk her own life to do something that is important for her. In any point I don't think she was too naive when trying to restrore elven history.

Where's all this stuff about Lavellan being fluent in elven coming from? It's been a couple of months now but I don't remember anything that indicated the elfquisitor was functionally fluent in my playthrough or is Lob just pulling stuff out his nethers again?
